- Do you need a $15,000 motorcycle to have a good time? Hell, do you even need a new bike? What amount will you have to spend if you want to try riding with your buddies? After a heated debate, fueled by too many beers and not enough sense, our dynamic duo finally settled on $1,000.
With the question in mind, a $1,000 in their pockets, and a group of friends at least half as crazy themselves, Spurgeon and Steve set out the Pine Barrens 500 Adventure Ride to test their theory in this first episode of “Drop the Clutch”... Errrrr, “Dump the Clutch”.

About a year ago I bought a 05 DR200 off Craig's list for 1100. It is great for back roads & trails. Lots of fun & easy to pick up when you dump it. very cheap & easy to maintain, lots of cheap fun.
I completely agree though I have modified mine completely with knobby tires not the death wings it came with. I put a nice new exhaust on it and re-jetted the carb, it’s definitely a fun bike very light very easy on the trails. Also this little bike has some torque it’s like a tiny Billygoat climbing these hills…
I ran across a very clean 04 drz 250 for $500 had it for 7 years now! Never let's me down. One of the best bikes to learn on.
"Good on you" for teaching riding on a budget. Its a shame that people think they have to have a $15,000 KTM to go riding. This usually prevents them from getting a bike at all. "Image Less, Ride More".

Found one with a bunch of mods new choke and new tires for 1000 Dollard
I found a 2008 for $1000 has missing plastics, gas lid, missing key, and no title(but not stolen) so I’m buying a lock set for it $185. Headlight cover with bolts(about $45) getting a bonded title $100 so it’s about a $1400 bike after all that. I might get the side panel plastics in the future.
I have been looking at one of those Hawk 250 bikes and I almost bought one. Now I'm looking for the Suzuki!!!!

Perfect example of why you should A) select the appropriate tool for the job, and B) get appropriate training.

And really, what is it? What causes the drive to ride big bikes on little bike territory and little bikes where the gold-plated behemoths roam? I see dudes struggling out there on their lux-o-bikes and suddenly want to run it on a Helix with knobbies or a Trail 90!

Been a fan of these mid size or smaller bikes for a while like since 75...have AFEW..1. xt 250 81 ..3 xt 350s 89-92 ..2 klr 250s 97s all run n are a blast. Then a few dedicated dirt bikes KTM 300exc .husky 410 exc Honda xr350..man plus more holy shit ..didnt realize I've gotta bike fetish..oh well could be much worse n has..gr8 vid thou folks lots of fun ..those lil-guys
Currently riding a DRZ250, downsized from a DR650 prior to that. The little 250, stock standard, is a great little bike. Soon to go on a group ride, and hoping to give some big bikes a run for their money.

We just kept our eyes peeled. Mine was pretty clapped out and has been passed around my circle of friends at RevZilla for a while. Now is the time of year to just keep your eyes peeled on Craigslist.
Keep in mind that these things aren't winning any races, and they'll need to be wrenched on more often than nicer bikes, but there is still a lot of fun to be had with them. And that's the point, right? Motorcycles number one job should be to deliver a smile to the riders face.

Fun! Where's Ep 2, and 3, and ??? :) Been riding off-road 50 years now. Current DS scoot is a Yamaha WR250R. Along with the WR I also have some vinduro scoots. Just picked up a 2002 XT225 for the reasons similar to yours: Lo-tech, cheap, lightweight, lots'a fun. Looking forward to spending some time on it. Make more videos!
If i could find bikes like that around here for 1000 I would by them in a minute. Those would sell for 1800 to 2500 easily here.

I use to have 3 Kawasaki's but a 70 yr old man nearly killed me. Dirt bikes much safer & lots of fun. You had fun that's cool. Try the desert that would be cool too.

@@ArcticWolf57 scrambler... as in dual sport... primarily for road but capable of off road with ease. That's what a real scrambler is a bike that you can take off road or on the highway. Before you say you can't off road a Ducati icon you might want to check them out. I will smoke anyone on a ktm or husky over the whoops with my "road bike" lol....
