This man, whoever he is, literally took the end pieces of CHROMOSOMES and how they connect to each other to make a person, and used that as a metaphor for how two people can connect in a relationship to make what is essentially one unit, just like our chromosomes do to make US.
When I say this man can WRITE...HE CAN WRITE!!!

Your eyes when the guitar solo starts 😳😲.....😂😂 Priceless!
Vessel is obviously a very educated and smart man. Possibly majored in science. But his passion and talent for music is definitely his calling.
He has mastered the art of singing in "slow motion" as i call it. When i binged their albums the first time i was alone at home, laying down and just FEELING the music, was almost a hypnotic experience. Like I was so relaxed it was like i was in a dream state but awake if that makes sense 😅. It was great.
Loved your reaction as always. Excited to be getting to the close of this album. Love both songs coming up. Til then, have a great weekend!

I have said from the beginning that this is the modern tool. He writes like Maynard, sings like Maynard in a way. If he doesn't take references from Tool then idk. But I can hear Maynard all in his artistic ability and Danny Carey in ii's drumming also. I love it and I am completely and utterly in Love!!!

@earthscorcher @darkslayer1391 I totally agree. On a Descending reaction I watched, someone had said that since Tomb doesn't have a title track, they feel Descending is the closest to it. I disagree. I think High Water is the climax, and IMO puts all of Sleep Token into a different perspective. Because of it, (at least based purely on ST lore) I really think the trilogy doesn't just end at the end of Euclid. I think it's a cycle. Bound to repeat, endlessly, or at least "for the time being."

I definitely feel this is their most "traditional" song as well. The chorus always makes me think I've heard it somewhere else before but I can't place it. Maybe it's just the nostalgia like you said.

Telomeres pretty much prevent DNA from unwinding/degrading, but each time DNA replicates Telomeres get shorter until they are essentially no longer functional, which prevent further replication of DNA, leading to cell death. Scientists believe theoretically if we can prevent Telomeres from becoming shorter, we can stop the aging process.
I haven't figured out the meaning behind Vessel choosing 'Telomeres', but I think it might have something to do with his relationship with sleep either degrading or becoming eternal.

This is one of my favourite ST songs! I listened to this album on the train home from a music festival in 2022 where I had seen them live after never having even heard of them. I felt like I was floating the whole journey, it's just the most magical album 💙 FYI there is a instrumental version of this (and Sundowning) available on Spotify and that's a whole vibe too.

Every time I see you react to one of IIs tasty lil fills it brings me immense amounts of joy. Far too often the drummer is, if not overlooked, under appreciated.
Lmaoooooo that face when the solo hit! Fuckin A. Good stuff haha
You just looked like you enjoyed the song from start to finish. The big grin at the end says it all. It’s weird that a “traditionally structured” by them song brings so much joy. Might be a dopamine rush from hearing them play something “familiar”. Nostalgia maybe plays a factor as you said. It’s funny that you mentioned Breaking Benjamin because I hear Ben Burnley in Vessel’s vibrato sometimes.

Okay okay, I literally came back to this after registering to all the albums over again just to say- was a child lost????!!! Maybe? The analogy of telomeres- how two people can come together to create- one unit = a child = the child was lost? The relationship became a decayed bc of it? Blame, guilt etc- Lover is still actually alive? Maybe? Am I reaching??? Did I hit some of it? Pls lmk lol 😆

This song always felt out of place to me in relation to the depth markers being something of symbolism for falling into a depression but your take about it maybe being sleep makes it make more sense in that context. As always banger video and im super excited for the last two tracks!

  • @Calirohe

I read somewhere (no idea if it is scientifically accurate or not) that the length of the telomeres had a relation with the quality of sleep and length of life expectancy. I sometimes wonder if Vessel is not afflicted with a sleep disorder called "hyperonirism", that generates very vivid - and often quite dark and exhausting - life-like dreams. Maybe that would explain his choice of Sleep as a name for his deity and some other lyrics in different songs?

So telomeres are the aglets of chromosomes but they stretch as dna sequences and the more they stretch the weaker they get. This is what is happening between the two of them. The more they come apart and back together the less receptive they are to come back together BECAUSE of it. Fucking brilliant.

so, first off let us get into the real depth of the song. I know Jango here looked up the definition of Telomeres but he totally missed the full depth of this song. Let us begin. Telomeres are yes what he looked up online or in the dictionary but the deeper understanding is that they are thought to be the things that are responsible for causing humans to age. The title of this song speaks to Vessel's want to live forever with the person he is singing about. This is because it is thought that if one can alter the telomeres in your body you can live forever. let us get into the chorus now as in the chorus he pretty much fully describes a black hole but does not paint the black hole as an evil thing but a thing of beauty. A black hole is beyond the farthest reaches, light around a black hole bends and wraps underneath, and things collapse into a black hole, also, if you were to pass across into the event horizon of a black hole you would be into something new as you would be completely disconnected from where you were before you crossed. The bridge, this part talks about love transcending time, space, death, everything. YEAH.... How does a human write songs like this..... Vessel is an alien sent to Earth to heal humanity.
