What I don't get is why they would change Annie to be the daughter of the Vice President of the US when, if that was actually real, she'd have secret service with her all the time and they'd probably instruct her not to associate with Lucien and Caroline. It's the most unnecessary and confusing update that makes the entire premise fall flat for me. Even the adaptation of "Reacher" showed how the Vice President had secret service detail with his daughter at college and that series is made by Amazon, as well. Bare minimum is to be consistent 🤦♀
The Sarah Michelle Gellar one was lightning in a bottle, remaking it is doomed to fail. As did the korean version called Tempted, which was a star-studded clusterfuck. Why are they focusing on the glam and luxury when we loved the original for its cathartic evilness?
@@LadyJenevia A regular 16 episode series. And because it was on Korean network TV, there was no ounce of temptation or eroticism. Just rich people advertising cars
I was so ready to hate it, yet ended up binge watching the whole thing lol I liked all the fun side characters and by the end I kinda warmed up to the guy playing Ryan Phillippe.
I agree on her amazing job at Gossip Girl, BUT it is smart to not encase herself into a sterotype. And I flet like she did a good job in this too tbh with the dialogues that she had.
you so right the white lotus idea to have an anthology series in which we follow a different cast each season was smart in this climate of tv/streaming series
I honestly am sooo surpised becasue you literally share every point of my opinion post binge watching this serie. I do have t osay that I was extremely disappointed by the ending it was not woo you left me hanging but more like nothing was striking enough for it to be qualified as a cliffhanger anyway loved your video, subscribing right away
I've only seen the first 3 episodes but I don't feel a connection to any of the characters. None of them are interesting or intriguing. They all feel one dimensional. And what's up with all the sorority girls? Are they drones that just clean? Not one has a voice besides the two main girls? Not sure if this is an artistic move to try and say sorority girls are like sheep or something but it just comes off empty...everything in this show just feels really empty to me..
I'm curious if you've seen the Glenn Close, John Malkovich, and Michelle Pfeiffer film? Anyway, it's disappointing (but unsurprising) to hear that I probably will not like the new series.
I don’t think I’ve seen that version (yet)! I’ve been curious about it for a while but I always have so many things on my watch-list that I still haven’t gotten around to this one. 😆
I really wanted to root for Jon Harlan Kim as I am a big fan of him. But unless there was a cameo from Sarah Michelle Gellar, I wasn't really gonna watch.
He’s good in this! I can’t say spoilers about a lot of his material until tomorrow after the episodes are released to everyone but to reiterate, I much preferred his material over a lot of what was given to the Big 3. 🙂
hes so good in it, he honestly makes this show amazing. his character blaise is just the cherry on top. honestly my favorite/ best character from the show
Didn't they already make (badly) a TV series of Cruel Intentions after the Sarah Michelle Gellar/Ryan Phillippe/Reese Witherspoon movie? I have a memory of Television Without Pity reviewing it.
I don’t know, the only things I’ve seen with the “Cruel Intentions” title is the beloved film from the 90’s, the prequel with Amy Adams, and now this series. 😂🤷🏻♀️
Lucian dressing like he dresses and being in a frat house was both jarring and interesting because we have Paul Mascal and women loving him, he weaponizes his Feminine aura and this women fall for it so hard, the fact that he isnt the typical macho man, the women drop their guards so dast and feel safe to just let their vulnerable side to get exposed. I liked his wardrobe it this for that specifically. Then you have Caroline onthe other hand who always wears black and runs everything, she feels like the black sheep infront in her mother's eyes and always tries to impress her ending up becoming more like her, she wears her emotions to a T, she only values power and control and knows with the tapes she can control everyone of this powerful girls.
The problem is that the core of this whole story is sl*t shaming. The reason Sebastian is a villain is because he knows he is ruining young women’s reputation while himself is getting off scot free is due to the double standard in society. Due to the culture shifting + Gen Z being more liberal and sx positive, you need to change up the core trio’s motivations a little bit: you can’t have Caroline wanting to corrupt Annie just “for the evuls” because nowadays we don’t care if a young woman has a sexual history, if fact, Caroline doesn’t seem to hate Annie specifically, she just really needs her to keep the sorority running.
I’m on the first episode & only half way through and don’t think I’ll watch anymore of it, disappointed already.. not sure if I should keep watching more or not
Came for the review, but I know I am not going to watch it. No matter what they try, it's the same story over and over, with no real original changes to make it interesting.
Well it’s a modern literary adaptation and I like that concept (it keeps more classic books in conversation!) so in theory I’m always open to more Cruel Intentions adaptations but this one just wasn’t giving me enough to really hook me the way I would’ve liked. 😕

There are Secret Service but they’re never in immediate proximity to get in the way of anything juicy. 😂

There’s a Korean version?? Was it a film or a series?

I almost watched that drama because I wanted to see Joy’s acting, but the reviews were so bad, I never got around to it.
Right in 2012 there was reboot pilot with smg if she couldn't bring it back why would be able too
@@LadyJenevia unaired pilot with Smh back as Catherine and the son of the step brother rasse Witherspoon was reacted

This show should have been a Western take on the kdrama's success formula: commit to the cruelty and the limited series format!
Why I enjoyed Tempted
Savannah Lee Smith (Annie) should’ve been Catherine/Caroline. She played the mean girl brilliantly in Gossip Girl.
She was the star of that clusterfuck
Absolutely however i think that Savannah did a great job with Annie
That's A Good Possibility...
I agree on her amazing job at Gossip Girl, BUT it is smart to not encase herself into a sterotype. And I flet like she did a good job in this too tbh with the dialogues that she had.
Totally agree the Cece and Blaise storylines were far more interesting than what was happening with the other main three.
I was ready for them to rework and rename the series “The Cruel Misadventures of Blaise and CeCe” 🤭
you so right

Yes! There was a pilot sequel! That didn't get renewed, it was so good! Sebastian had a son and the original Kathryn was in it looking stunning 😍

me reading the thumbnail : good i was hoping someone would do that
someone who watched the librarians! i love that show so much
I should’ve cashed like a part two of the of the series supposed to be in 2000 but it’s always spiritual sequel to part two of dangerous liaisons
Agree on it should've been a limited series, such a weak finale. I was waiting for a big ending, so disappointing
Girl I gave it two episodes and then I was done. I was bored and over the banter between the step siblings 😂
