Hi Scott. I ordered The Workshop Book straight after this vid. It arrived today. Very interesting with some great old photos, plans of shops and tool info. Thankyou very much from the UK.

It's nice to see which books other woodworkers have chosen, to help them out in the different subjects in woodworking. I don't have the particular books you have, but others in the same subjects. Over sixty books now. I check out the ratings and reviews before purchasing. Most books don't cover or explain in detail the whole topic I want to learn or get from it. Usually I get about five books on each topic I'm interested in. One will cover aspects other leaves out. Example, books on chair making really don't cover wood seat sculpting (only a page or two, just touching the topic). Still don't have a good book on seat sculpting. Hard to thumb through a book before purchasing online. I pull out the books and magazines and place them on the end table next to my recliner. To read when I'm not interested in a TV show my wife watches. After reading them, I'll reffer to them several times.

Thanks for sharing that Richard. Have you discovered Curtis Buchanan's videos on chair making. I've really enjoyed them and he covers some details using a scorp. Cheers. Scott

Thanks for info on Curtis RUclips link. I do check RUclips but was looking for books on sculpting. Was looking for info on depth patterns. I ended up making a router slab flattening jig. And routing to different depths. Then used a 2" curved radius spokeshave for shaping. Then a 6" orbital sander to smooth out. I was making 4 replacement seats for a customer

Scott, there are at least two books by David Charlesworth that I believe you will find most satisfying and informative. And yes, I believe I have most of your recommended and quite a few more, lol. Charlesworth is the best I've found.

Scott, or anyone, can you recommend a book or RUclips video with a fireplace mantle for someone with medium skills. I own miter, jigsaw, router, grinder, circular…. Thanks

I don't know of any fireplace mantel books. I have a fireplace mantel plan and article you may find helpful. You will have to assess if you have the skills for this project. Here are the links:

Surprised to see a Time Life book in that list. I generally look down on Time Life books as much as I look up to Taunton Press books.

Or, like me, you could just learn from the masters on RUclips.

Yes, RUclips is a great tool for learning. The benefit of well written books, is you gain more knowledge from experts that aren't on RUclips. Cheers. Scott
