Deciding to travel with Billi right now was something I absolutely agonized over. Rest assured I considered all options, and at the end of the day she’s my priority and FAR outweighs my job. I thought long and hard about how far Billi could reasonably travel, and have made sure she was stable before we left. Ultimately Billi could decline anywhere, I don’t have a crystal ball to know how long I have left with her 😢
Happy to see her settling in, and that the travel didn’t seem to stress her overly. Thankfully she’s quite experienced at it!

I work as a zoo relief veterinarian (think travel nurse, but for veterinarians) which means I travel for extended periods. Billi is a great little traveler, and is very comfortable in the car and new places! Dad will pop in to visit as he can, but we won’t be back home for a bit.

A Billi dictionary 📖
🔹Fan toy: a homemade toy with sewing elastic tied to a stuffed bunny or mouse

'HUG" is one of my favorite buttons: cats have such mixed feelings about hugs, that when they are in the mood for one, it's nice for them to be able to specifically ask.

I think perhaps getting Billi used to going outside and going on long car rides, traveling for work, etc. when she was younger left a permanent impression, so that she doesn't stress about it like a cat would if it's new to them. Maybe she simply sees traveling as part of her life? Just a thought. She's seen more of the world than I have, I bet :) What a life she's led.
There is still a lot of light in Billi's eyes. She is such a trooper, and one of the best kitties anyone could love.

This is definitely closer to the experience I wanted for my cats when they pass. But instead my first cat, Sebastian, passed suddenly while I was out of town. He was noticeably ill for about 11 hours before he passed and I didn’t even get to say goodbye. By the time the news caught up with me, I had about 5-10 minutes before the vet called to report his death. He was just 6 years old.
Later I learned that some male cats have sudden heart problems that will manifest like this. This helps to know I didn’t do anything wrong. The vet and the rest of staff were very kind and kept his body a day to give me time to make decisions.
I wanted to be there for him when he passed, it’s the last act of love you can give. To offer comfort and safety during their passing. This happened back in 2011. My current cat, Mels, is now almost 13 and doing well apart from some minor arthritis. So normal old folks problems. She’s been very good for me.
It’s hard to lose a loved pet, but the pain does ease over time. My grief has faded and morphed into sorrow and fondness. Sebastian was a good cat, although not the brightest of bulbs. Mels is much smarter, but not as good looking as Sebastian. They are very different and I love them in different ways.
But each person reacts differently to loss. Getting a new pet after a loss is a very personal decision. Only you can make that choice for you. There is no “right” time to wait before getting another pet. Some people get a new pet immediately because it’s a way of honoring their loved pet, while others can’t even bear the idea of losing another pet and so never get another pet again. Most people are somewhere in the middle.
Hugs to everyone grieving a recent loss. Whatever you believe about death, I hope you eventually find peace and comfort.
I leave it up to the cat distribution system. It seems to know when either you need another cat, or when a cat specifically, needs you. Both reasons are good ones for accepting a kitty into your house hold. We currently have 5.❤
Oh man this makes me so happy! So glad you were able to have a little adventure, find such great housing, that she was able to settle in, and have your anxiety soothed a bit! She really looks like she's loving those outdoor spaces

I don't remember when last year I found your channel, but I remember I started implementing saying more words whenever I spoke to my cat (Diamond) or my mom's (Fredday) regarding certain things. We don't have buttons, but I tried to say "noise" before using certain sounds they didn't like to try to "prepare" them - eventually at least Diamond seems to recognize it and will USUALLY stay put so long as I "warn" her and let her see which item is making the noise (unless it's something too loud: vacuum, of course).
At some point I also started saying "hug" to Diamond because I didn't want a long drawn out, "do you want to be held" or something. She'd meow at me in certain things, I'd say "Hug?" and if she stood a certain way I knew I had her permission. So to see this, just kind of reminds me of what your videos taught me and being implemented here.
I've done other things over the past 24 years with my other furbabies, but it was your videos that made me start thinking of wording some of them different and expanding. Separating "up" for "hug" when I meant two different types of ups, for example.
Thank you for teaching me another method to test and communicate between myself and the furbabies in the house.
I'm also really glad to see Billi was okay with the travel and having her outside time still being enjoyed.
