Salt mining in Kilifi county

The recent ban on the expansion of the salt mines in Magarini Kilifi County, might result in loses for salt companies, but the environmental impact due to salt mining may take years to recover. And as Judith Akolo observes, salt mining though a source of employment for the locals as well as revenue for the government, has impacted negatively on an area that has struggled to become food secure.
