What makes this version stand out to me is they make it all about the SONG not the SINGER. They let the beauty of the song stand on its own without added embellishments or gimmicks. Perfection!
You have seen by now that Home Free has loyal fans. You react to them, we are here for you! Thanks so much. Love, love this one! Austin just kills it! And of course, Tim arranged when young, one of his first arrangements. He was so thrilled when Austin joined the group with that incredible high voice so he could take the lead on the last half. Take care!
i get chills very time Austin sings his part......OMG, he has such a pure beautiful voice!!......and i think he does that nose scrunch just for us ladies.....LOL
You don't need to be a vocal coach or a processional to know what you like. It just is what it is. What I love most about Home Free, though, is that they don't need to change things up ( as in taking a song and jazzing it up, or giving it a pop sound, or dancing all over the place like some others do) when it comes to religious hymns. They can just stand there and deliver a song that will give you chills up and down your spine. Thank you, loved your reaction, once again.
And that's how you do it. I have honestly stopped listening to my other favorite acts because of them. Never get bored of listening to their songs. So beautiful.
Part of Home Free's genius lies in simplicity. Many of their videos are in simple settings ("Brothers in Arms", "Mayday", etc.) so that the focus in on the song and the singing, not gimmicks. Like this one, most of the hymns don't have beatboxing either so that the message of the song is what speaks to you. Love your reaction!
That really was a great reaction - you didn't need to play it up to just see on your face how impressed you were - thank you. Austin's high notes are just so lovely - so many singers sound harsh or screechy when they go high, but he just seems to make it look effortless. Background infodump - Tim Foust arranged this, and this is one of the songs where they have 5-part harmony, because Adam Rupp is singing, rather than beat-boxing. Tim said that he originally arranged it when he still a teenager, for the group he was singing with in high school - obviously this is far more complex, but that's where he was starting from. It was filmed in a church, in Mankato, Minnesota, where the Rupp brothers come from, and it just makes the perfect setting. They filmed another video on the same visit for Angels We Have Heard on High, which was the other carol on their original Christmas album, and is another lovely one.
LT - excellent reaction to a SUPER rendition - my favorite version of this wonderful song!!! It's music like this that makes me forget and take a much needed break from all the negativity that's flooded our planet - I can always tell by the look on your face that it has touched your heart - and me as well - especially the ending. Looking forward to more of the journey together of the magical adventure of Home Free.... RichieC
Hi RC, I am so sorry I thought I responded to this but seems like my message did not go through! I am with you all the way on this one, the past few weeks have helped me so much. Going through this journey with so many wonderful people to join and aid me has been such a blessing. This has become my favorite version of this song as well, simply amazing!😁
The first thing that hit me when I listened to this was those bell tones. That was my "wait, what?" moment that had me playing the song several time to grasp. This is another that I still get chills from several years later. You don't need a female in the group when you have talented tenors like Home Free has. Thanks! ^_^
EXACTLY, Why would someone even think they would even consider a female, when they have Austin ? He’s INCREDIBLE ! He’s so amazing, & what’s so cool about him, he’s the most down to earth young man & purely genuine. And, most intelligent! I caught him in an interview, & was most impressed with who he is as a person! And, as a group, HF is such a wonderful mix of fabulous voices & Beat Boxer...can’t forget ADAM!!! He’s AWESOME in his own right!!!

My apologies I was reading it as if you yourself interviewed him😅 still it sounds very interesting. I sometimes read this in english and process it in my home language🤣
Awww so glad to hear you liked it and seemed awed by it. Yes, that’s what we Home Fries feel about them too. It’s a song to be sung with reverence to the birth of our Lord and these boys nailed it. (It’s how I feel about their version of How Great Thou Art too). Tim shows his higher range and then Austin sings those high notes. I’m not a voice coach or professional either but I loved singing in choirs too and I think we all know good singing when we hear it. The bell tones, the arrangement, it was so good. And the setting...was beautiful with the beautiful church and candles. Perfect. Loved your reaction!
It was so beautiful! It is alway fun to see how they push themselves out of their comfort zones and still sound amazing😁 If I could go back in time I would jyst to hear this again for the first time🤩
It's truly a gorgeous arrangement by Tim! You should check their "What Child Is This" on Chris Rupp's channel. It has all 6 of them and it's gorgeous as well. And Rob shines in their "I'll Be Home For Christmas" too which is a beautiful tribute to the military service men & women (bring tissues! 😉) Enjoyed your reaction!! Thx!
Yes. That is one worth checking out. I enjoyed see that even tough Chris's left to work on other things, his friends in Home Free supported him in those ventures.
I know how you feel, and have try listen to some other covers of this song, but comes back to HF again and again, because it's just so darn perfect. And if you are impressed of Austin's high notes, you are in for a treet, when you listen to "Country fried pop medley", I will see forward to that.
