He can take Luffy on in the sense he isn't getting 1 shot like he is a goon. Luffy was also toying with Kaido during their fight, and you could contribute that to being a part of his powers. I loved the way they animated the reveal of his Devil Fruit Awakening because it made him seem like a huge deal and he wasn't taking any massive physical damage from Luffy either. Despite him not being able to hit him back at all.
I think the only issues I've had with the anime recently (because the pacing of this episode was real good) was the Jimbe knowing warrior of liberation (not canon) and the whitewashing of all the darker characters (colors are just inconsistent since time skip started. Also who does or doesn't have conqueror's haki getting confusing if you don't read the manga lol.

That base clash they added in, as well as all the other anime original moments from this fight like the whole transformation really helped elevate this fight to a whole new level than it was in the manga. This is where everything kicks off in Egghead itself and you were truly able to feel it

But look at his change in expression. When Luffy transforms he cant help to smile. He feels the thrills he feels the pure joy of fighting nikka exudes. When he difference gets clear and Nikka shows him that he is the hunter in this fight (the demon eye scene) Lucci is so fing hurt in his pride and really need to reassert himself as the predator in this fight. He had no chance..

Lucci pulled a Vegeta. He let his opponent power up instead of making them fight for it. He probably would’ve still lost but it wouldn’t have been as quick.
Something that makes me laugh is that Lucci couldn't land a direct hit on Luffy at any time xD, also from what I saw he doesn't know how to use Ryuo, much less Haoshuko Haki.
When Luffy uses his G5 and his conquer´s Haki destroys the whole area....Damn I hope they´ll keep it that way since he split heaven on his first transformation as well. Lucci was like "he´s goofing around again. What now?! Will he become tiny again or what?" Luffy attacks and Lucci be like "WHAT THE FUCK?! This is no joke. This guy is a fucking DEMON" xDDD
