  • Laimbeer throws a couple of elbows and cuts Larry's chin. Bird responds by scoring 31 points in the second half of game 2 of the 1985 ECSF. Never a great idea to get Larry fired up. He scored 42 points in total.

    I like the way Bird gets Laimbeer's elbow twice, once bad enough to bleed, and still goes right back in and gets in Laimbeer's face and blocks his shot
    That was Larry Bird in microcosm
    tenacious and fearless and willful

    Bird was such a badass. As a Lakers fan, I tip my cap to that guy. I remember Michael Cooper playing him tough, especially in clutch situations. But you double-team him, and he would find the open man. Bird even has said that Coop was one of the toughest defenders he ever faced because he was relentless on D.

    • @richardpare3538
      @richardpare3538 9 месяцев назад +1

      Cooper was a hell of a defender against Bird. He recognized that when Larry passed the ball, he was just as dangerous, if not even more dangerous, and stuck with him like glue. Those matchups between those two were worth the price of admission alone!

      As a Bostonian did you know Bird mangled his finger in the 84-85 season just before the playoffs? He was at Chelsea’s bar on Merchant’s Row right off of State St. He was there with his drinking buddy Quinn Buckner when he got into a bar fight with a patron. Analysts looking at Bird’s shooting stats showed he was markedly a poorer shooter than prior to the fight. This means we probably would have won the 84-85 season and further ore that would have been a three-peat. 84,85 and 86. If you lookup this fight it was settled out of court and to this day remains sealed as far as ai know. It may have been O’Shaunessy (spelling) that wrote the article. So somewhere out there is a guy that caused us back to back Championships. Injuring what may have been one of the top three players of all time.

    Larry Bird was the best ever. Period. He took a nobody college team to the NCAA finals. He took a losing Celtic club, won ROY, and improved the team by 23 games. The next year he won the championship. He was MVP 3 years in a row. He was a guy you could put with 4 nobodies and he could beat most NBA teams.

    I don't think I'll ever understand Bird. Aside from him being 6'9", he honestly looks like a guy who they got out of the stands and gave a uniform that didn't even quite fit him right. He doesn't speak like a basketball expert or savant or anything like that, and his moves all seem to be purely improvised instead of honed weapons...but yet he just KILLED everyone, swished shot after shot, threw incredible passes, scored from every angle, and was clutch as all hell. Which makes him unforgettable.

    Larry Bird was a master at the game and was everything you wanted in a basketball player. Whatever you needed, he had it or produced it. Dunks, 3's, free throws, layups, assists, off balance shots, steals, rebounds, quick passes, fast breaks, last second shots for the win, you name it and he could give it to you.
