I live in Nashville and head to Gatlinburg as often as possible with my little dog and my camera gear. I'm actually looking for a "second home" out there to mostly rent for now and move to someday when I retire. Maybe sooner? I love it out there so much. Thanks so much for showing the trail you found when Clingman's was closed for ice. It's beautiful up at the top, btw, just exhausting to get up there-LOL. I've never been where you went and it looks like a wonderful way to spend a day. Thanks for sharing your adventures! This one put me in a relaxed state of mind, imagining myself out there. Keep doing what you do. You're awesome.
B-E-A-UTIFUL! What a sick adventure. I love to hike/mountain bike. Also, preferably alone. I am not a people person anyway, so getting away is necessary & commuting with nature rejuvenates the soul. Keep on rocking lass & safe journeys:)
Interestingly, men always have positive things to say about my solo hiking but most women are critical and try to talk me out of it. My response is that I'm much safer in the woods than I would be walking through a Walmart parking lot!
@Red Fish I am careful about where I choose to hike alone. I don't hike in very remote areas without a companion. I solo only where there are other hikers around in case I get hurt. I do have ways to protect myself. Each of us has to decide what we are comfortable doing and take appropriate steps to make ourselves as safe as possible.
I was meant to see this video today. After a long time of saying “someday”, today I finally booked my first solo camping trip, to Joshua Tree National Park. I will make mistakes, but like you said...you learn about yourself by getting out there. Thank you for sharing.
I am overjoyed! I am so glad this video urged you to get out there. Joshua Tree is awesome and a great place for your first solo camping trip. Stay up late and look at the ⭐️ stars.
I, personally think in today's world. The wilderness is safer. If you prepare. I love meeting hikers on trail. More power to you my friend. Im been going into the wild for 60 years now. I can't live without it. Thanks 😊
Me too. I wish my mom could see this, at least the title. I am 53 and usually hike alone. I like to. I feel ALIVE when I am out there. Also, it gives me time to pray and think. No ear buds, just sounds of nature.
I've been on a quest since 2020 to explore more hikes around Southern California. At least half of my hikes (75 distinct trails to date) have been solo and I love it! I make different decisions when I'm alone on a trail - I'm more alert, more focused, and freer in body and spirit. I get similar comments with friends and family telling me to not hike alone or wondering if I'm afraid because I'm a woman. I remind those people that with the proper preparation and some pre-planning there isn't anything to fear. The world opens up when you are courageous enough to meet it head on.
You are such an inspiration! We are an all-female team of equestrian vaulters in NC. (Teenagers) And we train like crazy - not just on our horses, but running, working out, doing ballet and gymnastics, all of it outdoors (even when we're freezing). Plus we ride our horses way out in the woods to keep them in shape. Watching your videos and hearing the things you say helps us so much. You remind us of our coach, Dusti, who is the current national vaulting champion. Thank you for being amazing!
You sound like an amazing bunch. I did gymnastics my whole life up until college, what a strong foundation in life and adulthood you will have from the training you are doing now. Keep up the great work :)
I hike and travel solo all the time. On the surface, I like it because it means I can do what I want, when I want, without having to make compromises for someone else. But on a deeper level, I like the time alone with my mind. It’s meditative and healing. Your videos about solo backpacking have inspired me to try a few thru-hikes in the future.
I taught my daughter to love the outdoors. She turned out to be an outdoor major. She does what you are doing. You are amazing keep it up. Stay safe and strong 👍
Frankly I think it great seeing more and more women of all ages getting out on their own hiking doing the van life thing, living off grid, and so on and so forth. The more women do this the more it will be viewed as common. I certainly enjoyed running into women out and about on their own during my own travels - alone too. I mean, it is nice seeing more than old men doing this. We live in a beautiful country and so few actually ever get out to see it. Good on both the men and women who do so. Keep at it Alice and enjoy!
You go girl!! You have the right attitude in life. I'm a solo hiker woman as well. I've done a lot of things alone in life. Don't let anyone tell you the opposite. A lot of us are much better than a lot men out there. Educate, inform and stay abreast on knowledge, and you'll find how we're capable of doing in life. ☮🌹
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us, and just as importantly sharing your rationale for hiking solo. I also hike the trails near my home, with just my dog for company, but wear a bell since bears and other wildlife call this their home as well. Being by oneself in nature is a totally different experience. It becomes a relationship between you and the world, without the distraction of social interactions (which are wonderful, but at different times & places). I think much of the concern about females traveling alone is about potential vulnerability from malicious persons, not the wilderness itself. If one is strong, observant, and as well-prepared as you are, especially with cell-service for emergencies, it is absolutely the best way to experience nature. Thank you and please carry on!
I hike because a few miles in you find an inner strength and peace that I am hard pressed to find just meditating at home. It’s also a nice feeling of accomplishment to complete a loop. You can’t beat the beauty of nature too. Every State is unique and beautiful in its own way. Thanks for sharing these videos with us, Alice!
This is amazing. I’ve been getting back into solo hiking after overcoming some emotional trauma and it’s so liberating and empowering. Last one I did I almost turned around because I was having so much anxiety but I pushed myself and felt great that I actually finished. I have almost all the backpacking gear I need now and plan on doing atleast a couple solo overnights! And I may be going out west by myself.
Amanda. You are amazing. Great job. I’ve done two solo overnights so far myself. It’s hard to get over our own minds sometimes I’ve certainly been there too but you just can’t let her brain go to that scared place. Every hike, every moment we are alone we grow stronger. Kick it up :)
You’ll be fine just be aware of where you are, stay on course, remind yourself why you are doing this. You will persevere with discipline, determination, vision, understanding, self worth etc. It is amazing how it molds us into a stronger wiser individual. You will see life differently after accomplishing these solo hikes. Wow, it changed my life in so many ways. I found that being around people was not my thing because too many people feel the need to talk and I cannot hear Nature. Solo hiking is therapeutic and it instills courage to keep going and to never give up or surrender.
I am older guy 2 years ago i huet my achilles tendon trying to jog, last spring same thing hurt my bip aggravatwd the arthritis. What a blessing it is to be able to walk with little or no pain! And i am thankful i am 90 percent better. I will never run again unless a bear is chasing me, because i love walking too much. This spring i want to do an overnight hike, never done before being careful not to overdo it. Walking is the best!
Worth mentioning...The Garmin InReach (clearly visible on the front strap of your backpack) is a game changer for going solo in terrain that is remote and/or has objective dangers.
I've been hiking/ trail running on my own since 2014. I feel a million times more confident during those times than I do anywhere else. I think what you are doing is great.
I loved every word you had to say regarding what your dad spoke about. You have a wise dad and a great head on your shoulders. I am a 45 year old widow and hiking solo and discovering who I am and what I’m capable of is so empowering. Thank you so much for your words. I’m sure I will rewatch your video in the future just to hear you say this again and again.
This is the my favorite video you have ever done. Appreciate your openness and honesty. I hike and backpack a lot in WA state and often encounter women hiking solo. Mad respect for them! I have 2 daughters and do not want them to live life fearing the unknown either.
I was hiking with a friend of mine (both of us guys) and ran into a woman solo hiking above the tree line in the Bridger Wilderness part of the Wind River Range in Wyoming. She let us know that there were some storms rolling in where we were going (we hit them the next day), asked about the trail up ahead where we had come down from, and went on her way. She seemed like a total boss.
Thanks for sharing Alice. The love of the outdoors has no gender. Hiking solo is the most rewarding experience people can do for themselves. The outdoors is a test of endurance, learning to be compatible with nature and to experience the elements. It's never been a safe place but one can learn how to be part of it, to be in tune with their surroundings and the wildlife watching us. It is always safer to have company while out there, having someone to talk to or to depend on in case something happens. I am a hardcore backpacker, I have spend many days alone, on a trail, I have crossed path with women hiking solo for the pleasure of being away from people. Everyone learns their safety level.
I enjoy watching your videos. You know for the longest time, I had always watched so many videos of people going out on these wonderful adventures and I always said, “Oh I wish I could do that or go there.” Watching your videos has inspired me to get out of my comfort zone, get over my fears, and just get out there and travel and hike alone. Just know that you are an inspiration to many women. I’m sure your dad is very proud of you.
There’s a unique kind of pain that pierces the soul when you tell someone excitedly that you want to travel here or hike there and you get a fear response. I realize it’s their own fear projected on to me though and that helps put it into perspective. Fear limits us but wisdom is full of treasures. Life is meant to be lived!
Solo backpacking trips are my favorite. I love being able.to leave language behind and just be in the senses. Thanks for the beautiful hike and thoughts!
I love seeing other women go on solo hikes! People think I’m crazy for going by myself but you only get one life and I’m not going to live it based around other people’s schedules. If I want to do something I do it.
Yes Megan! That is my MO too, I am not going to wait around for anyone, if I want to see the world I'm going, if others want to come, well catch me if ou can. :)
You never have to explain yourself to anyone ever. Trying to raise my girls to be the same way. Great video I think I will show my 15 year old daughter this video.
Good for you young lady! Do what you love to do, there will be time to explore and hike with friends but you will have a confidence born out of experience. Your dad gave you priceless advice and we all male or female would do well to hear.
I mostly hike alone (forest, mountains, desert, etc.) and its mostly been women that have had a problem with me doing that, saying its too dangerous to do alone. I'd much rather be alone hiking at night in the woods than walking alone at night in bad parts of most large cities...
I hike solo also. Being by yourself in nature is one of the e greatest gifts I could give to myself. So many reasons why I do it as well, but I am stronger mentally and physically because of it. Thank you for your video!
Thank you for sharing. I love hiking, but I am a beginner and learning a lot. For the longest time I never realized that I was afraid to hike alone. The main reason was that I was afraid of getting lost. So I learned how to read maps, a compass, the terrain, mark trails, etc. You are right on point about questioning why you are afraid. I'm more confident now and have started taking small 2-4 mile hikes alone. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep the videos coming! Stay safe out there.
@@AliceFordAdventures Thank you. Educating oneself is so very important. GPS technology is great, but we shouldn’t be dependent on it. We need to learn how to do things on our own as you said in your video. I'm a firm believer in that ideology. It makes us stronger and more confident as you had communicated, then we no longer feel afraid. Learn what we are capable of, because we do have a tendency to think we are less than what we truly are in only our minds. Looking forward to watching some prep videos. 😀
ive read an article of this woman, shes a math teacher and always be doing a solo hike shes been in more than 80 places around north america thats the first time i got shocked that female is so INDEPENDENT, which is really cool and brave
Alice, had a chance to finally catch up on your videos. You are not stupid at all; you are actually very brave, intelligent and adventurous to do your solo hiking videos. I admire and respect your passion for the outdoors and how real and honest you are. Don't change a single thing, your awesome! Thanks for making the video and sharing your experience with everyone. Additionally, you didn't have to kill any crabs in this video :). I look forward to your next video. God Bless, Eric
Well I have plenty of backpacking experience under my belt, but had never gone on a solo backpacking trip until last August. It was a whole other world of experiences... I tested my mental and physical abilities and passed those tests with flying colors, and look forward to more solo backpacking trips! It is bullshit that we should be afraid to hike alone. Yes, it can scare you, it can totally freak you out at times... But coming out with an understanding of your amazing capabilities is worth it. Everything you desire is indeed just beyond your comfort zone. Great little video!
I've hiked solo, and you're right, there's something to experiencing the wilderness while alone. That being said, the smartest and safest way to travel in the backcountry is by using the buddy system, which I learned in the Boy Scouts. I've read many stories where not using he buddy system ended badly. Men and women alike. Keep sharing your adventures -- and thanks for doing so!
I’ve done a lot of hiking but I spent the last four months working in the black hills of South Dakota. I’ve never spent so much time in nature alone and I’d agree it’s definitely the best thing you can do for yourself. My friends and family tried scolding me for hiking alone but I’d rather be hiking alone anyday!
Way late on stumbling across this video, but as a serious hiker and a single dad of two young women, wanted to say thanks for the message. You nailed it and this is how I tried to raise my girls over the majority of their life . But you said is so much better than I've struggled saying it over the years. I've already shared this with them.
Hey HSane. Thank you so so much for watching, and for sharing it with your girls! its not easy raising strong independent self assured women. Sounds like you are doing a great job!
I backpack the Smoky mountains for the first time when I was 16 by myself even though I was a boy my parents did not want me to go by myself nor did the park rangers but my parents are from North Carolina Asheville so they left me there to backpack for 2 days by myself following the park rangers guidelines that was a long time ago after I got into my 30s I backpacked the Continental divide from south to North it took me 3 years because of work and so on to achieve it and it was worth it I love backpacking by myself now I've gotten into Bushcraft thanks for the video keep your Head up.
Thank you John. That’s really great. I love hearing about stories like yours, always inspiring to hear others stories on how they got out into the woods
I just randomly found your page and this video. I have a 12-year-old daughter, she is my only kid and is the apple of my eye. I must admit I'm very protective but this video opened my eyes to what she will miss if I'm too protective. Your father is a wise man and I appreciate you sharing his advice. I'm new to hiking and want to get my daughter to go with me, but at some point when she is older, even though I will worry and worry, I will encourage her to follow your father's advice. Many thanks!!
Thanks for sharing that. It’s never easy to let someone you love take risks, we all want to be there if we think someone might fall, but people need the opportunity to see if they can catch themselves first. I’m sure your daughter will turn into a wonderful and strong woman. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment
You are awesome and you do not need measuring yourself, your fun and your skill to another ...and especially trolls or haters, I enjoy very much your adventures and for someone like me who has physical limitations to accomplish certain task I totally appreciate everything you bring to your Vlog, things I can't do or places I can't go ... Thanks so much for sharing and keep on having fun and being yourself, again thank you !!
3:45. Yes! Luv it. My brother & I were training for a tough mud run. We were doing a 14mi hike that morning when we came across a young woman with a gps in one hand & a bottle of water in the other. She was on her way up the hill for a 23mi trail data survey. And we thought we were hot stuff..
Thank you for taking us on these walks. It is very valuable to share with others the beauty of our world, real emotions and your vision of what surrounds us! All this is a great work and art, it is worth a lot..... Thank you for the fact that more and more people are carried away by hiking romance, making people kinder. When you are in nature, you always enjoy the little things. You live in the present moment, and all negative thoughts leave our mind!
Wise, wise advice from your father. 👍. Yes, I love hiking by myself. Have done it for years. Trust me, you are NOT stupid for going out by yourself. My best memories are the ones from when I went out either hiking or long distance biking trips by myself. Those are the trips ingrained in my mind and heart the most. Good chat here with us. Thank you.
Great monologue Alice. Thank you so much for sharing your insight and reasons why you hike solo. I hike alone as well. My friends told me that I should let someone know when I'm out. Actually, I feel exhilarated and alive hiking solo. It focuses your preparedness, actions on the trail and enhances the value of a hike when you're done. This act can bring you back to your essence magnifying each moment of the journey while building stronger memories.
That’s great, you should always tell someone where you are going and when youlll be back though just in case. I’m glad you find joy in solo hiking too :)
AMEN Alice, I am so tired of hearing it is dangerous to hike alone as a woman. I've just started making videos as well and even though it's early days people still message to say it is dangerous. Like you said the best education is the one we learn from figuring out what works and doesn't work for ourselves (not what others tell us works). I really enjoyed this so thank you 🙏
Beautifully said. I know for me, nature offers wonderful therapy. I find you can better hear what she has to say if you are alone, quiet, and present. Blessings.
A young lady with a taste for adventure. Good for you, Alice! I have hiked and cycled all my life and have encouraged young people to do the same by taking them out on expeditions into the countryside. Fortunately here in Ireland we don't have bears or snakes to worry about.
Thanks for the perspective on solo hiking. I grew up hiking in the Smokies and now have decades of solo hiking experience, as a woman. Now I live in north Idaho and hike in the western mountains -- beautiful! Take care and happy adventuring!
You had me at "I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro." I huffed and puffed up Bear Mountain in Connecticut (but don't tell anyone!). I loved the views from the misty summit. You have a deep inner sense of what is truly meaningful and you tell a good story, which reflects your inner strength. My older daughter is like you. She takes on challenges with a courage that comes straight from a heart that has been touched by God. She is becoming a missionary and always moves forward, even when things don't work out or she is unsure or afraid. She loves people and spends her life in their service, all the while growing into a more beautiful young woman day by day. Your videos have character and your use of visuals, music, and commentary really take the viewer along. I think a little reflective narration would be cool too. Your stories raise people to a higher level (which is the purpose of all good stories). Great job, as always!
This warms my heart. You are a wonderful father to raise such a strong and empathetic daughter. I love your advice of narrating and will see when the story fits. :)
I hike Solo too, love it. So much to absorb when hiking Solo and for me my senses are far more in tune than hiking with others. You can hear so much its as if you have headphones on with nature playing. As long as we are not careless and make wise decisions, we'll be fine. It would be kind of nice to have a Hikers Guild just for solo hikers who can share their stories of their personal experiences.
U wouldn’t be so self assured u kept up with David paulides Missing 411 ! There are things out there( and underground )we are just learning about and very terrifying ! Personal locator beacon esp in places like the smoky mts !
This video showed up in my feed and glad I watched. Your father is a very wise man. Hiking-more so traveling solo-is a must for people of all ages. As you said, going solo helps you to learn about yourself. For me, it provided confidence and a joy found in our natural spaces, as well as inside myself. I could feel the peace and serenity you found at the summit, and would like to experience those moments after I build much more endurance! Thanks for the video!
Can I just say I love you for being your whole authentic self. Also I am totally living vicariously through you at the moment before my own personal journey and I appreciate you for sharing yours with us. Definitely appreciate the fact that we can free ourselves
I always enjoy your videos, Alice. Thank you for sharing them. I mainly only hike in the Deschutes National Forest because it’s a few minutes away. I see women hiking alone frequently, even miles out from the trailheads. I think it’s great. We’re all just out to enjoy the sights, sounds and fresh air moving across our faces as we go. It doesn’t matter what sex you are. The euphoria experienced hiking is for everyone.
Lots of men would feel very vulnerable hiking alone in the wilderness. You're highly skilled so you feel safe. The "personal battle" and reflection from solo hikes is fun so I understand why you do it.
Hardly a rant but just good food for thought. I'm older (78), went to Thailand when my wife died and hike in the mountains and rice paddies where the school I volunteer teach is located. Always solo. Having had a binary pulmonary emboli when hiking in the Sierras which put me on a blood thinner I wouldn't think of hiking without a guide and am so thankful that they were available on my 3 treks in the Himalayas, 2 treks in Yunnan Province, China and two treks in Taiwan. But more importantly for me is the history and cultural lessons they share with me. But I love my long solo training hikes. That when the world seems to be at peace. Thanks Alice. I just discovered you today. Can't wait to view your Kilimajaro video.
I too love hiking alone. I'm in Asheville and there are so many places around here to hike and be in nature. Because of stereotypes, women are more likely to get questioned about solo hiking, but it sometimes happens with men too. People conjure up the worst possible scenarios. What about bears? Wolves? Snakes? Getting lost? Etc? Or, that time I went to the movies and someone asked, "you're here by yourself?" Why, yes I am! Thanks for the video.
I’m a man and prefer to hike alone for a variety of reasons. Peace, solitude, and setting my own challenges/pace without hindering or pushing anyone are some of the reasons. I totally understand your attachment to the solo hike-it’s hard to explain but very rewarding. That said, I think women are more of a target for the two legged predators than men but if you are educated and prepared for it that’s all you can do. Just like any other part of your solo hike, it’s just another risk you need to continually calculate. Stay safe and have fun 😊
I subscribed without even checking the content tbh (though I’m sure it’s worth it). I’m a woman and we need more women going solo hiking (or solo anything else), I feel like a lot of women would want to but they don’t for obvious reasons. love from italy 🇮🇹
If you're in the area, you can hike up Mt. Mitchell, which is the tallest mountain in the East at 6,684 feet. It's in the Black Mountains, a little northeast of Asheville. The trail makes for a decent day hike and it's interesting because it take you up through three different forest types beginning with a southern hardwood (hickory, oak, etc.) through a section that looks more like a northern hardwood forest (maples, tulip poplars) and then finally up through a fir forest that looks like the Rockies.
Well said!!! It's sad how social media and fear have gripped so many. You made it clear, education and training preparation prepares you for what ever could come across. Live and let live. Fear is a major problem preventing people from truly living. Good luck and God bless.
Very wise advice. Tell my sons and daughters this frequently. Learn to be with, and love, yourself. Then, others in your life can be there because you want them there, not because you need them there. Keep on keeping on!
I, a man, traveled (drove) to Utah on a solo trip. I planned my first solo trip of two weeks to camp and photograph nature (mostly nightscapes) alone. I had to prepare for possible rattlesnake and mountain lion encounters since I would be off the trails at night. I ended up returning home after five days. I blamed my the cutting short the trip on the smoky skies (wildfires), but the truth is, I missed sharing my experiences with my wife or a friend along the way. Texting wasn't enough for me. I admire you, Alice, for breaking free of social norms. You obviously prepare well and have confidence in yourself. I see you take pride in being mostly self-reliant. Helen Reddy would admire you too.
Our son and his family live in western VA while he finishes his residency. I have hiked in the area and love those huge rocks sticking out of the ground! The Appalachians are awesome!
I Spent my 30's, 40' 50's alone hiking, backpacking and traveling with my dogs. every woman should focus on being able to make it on their own before they settle with a partner. Those relationships don't always work, so when they don't, being strong enough to do the things you want to alone will allow you to live the life you want to. Get to know yourself, build yourself physically and mentally so you can be alone! Being alone with nature is an undescribed magic. I have years and years of memories of back packing climbing Mt's, dealing with wildlife. There is nothing better than being alone with the natural environment. Take small steps it will pull you in. You will not need drugs or alcohol to make you happy and give you peace. Thank you for posting this,
Thank you so much Sally for sharing your own story. WE need more women encouraging others to get out and realize we have to be us before we can be a WE
I hike in the Bob Marshall Wilderness here in Montana by myself each year and always get comments from family and friends who think I am crazy. But I love it.
That view from the top with the fog is amazing! I love your mindset about life, and I definitely appreciate a strong, independent woman. Keep doing what your doing
I love seeing you do it by yourself I encourage my niece to do the same and she has for all you ladies out there go get it you owe it to yourselves love the videos thanks so much for sharing
Hello Alice! This video of yours is my first & I am appreciating your outlook, reminding me of my older sister who hikes solo. Although I like Abbie Barnes, soloing in the UK, I yearned for local women to inspire me. My RUclips search was: "hiking tours by a woman in Virginia" [my home State]. I found several, I chose you first. Thank you for your explanation of why you hike Solo to encourage girls & women! Happy Trails Alice....
I’ve been hiking and camping since the mid 1960’s. I’m now in my 60’s and am a male and I have many people telling me that I shouldn’t hike alone. I don’t think it’s just about female hikers. However, it amazes me that in 2021 in the USA that many people believe that women shouldn’t be outdoors by themselves. Keep up with hiking and your great videos. Cheers!
I have been backpacking, trekking, climbing, kayaking, biking alone, solo for 40 years. I love it. If I meet people, it is a lot easier to stop and talk, and just walk on. It is better in the way that you don't have to use time dicussing what, where ... And I can't see any reason why a woman or girl should not do the same. I've met in all the stuff I''ve done, women much stronger and tuffer than most men. Women can take a lot of pain and still keep focused. So just keep it up, and just go as much solo as you desire to. And other women will follow, that is for sure. Just look at the history of the sufragettes ;-) . Wish you great journey. Lovely filimng with that moving fog. I find fog and cloudy days more interesting when filming. Pure sun and just open sky, is a bit dry or empty. Moving clouds and fog is really stunning sometimes. Especially when it moves upwards from the bottom of a valley.
Keep up the good work , I recently hiked Half Dome in Yosemite valley all by my self, and I was definitely the only girl that was hiking solo, but I loved it, one of the greatest experience.
That Plan B turned into a great hike! The fog rolling in like waves and hugging the hillsides totally reminded me of the coastal redwoods area in CA and a prior adventure out there before the pandemic. Thanks for making and sharing the video plus the pep talk about facing one's fears! Same pep talks I've given my daughters :)
I haven't seen all your videos (a recent subscriber) but I don't need to to know this is your best video. You tick all the right boxes with your perspective and advice (for all genders and ages). What compelled me to post was your last statement at the end of your "rant' (not), "we can have a lot of preconceived notions about ourselves that are completely false". As an Olympic coach, this is a powerful message and exciting to see young athletes exceed those limitations. All the best.
Thank you for the comment and subscribing. I was a high level athlete myself (gymnastics, track and diving) and spent years working on pushing past those thoughts. I’m glad you found value in what I had to say.
Why do you love to hike?
Peace of mind and the exquisiteness of nature.
I live in Nashville and head to Gatlinburg as often as possible with my little dog and my camera gear. I'm actually looking for a "second home" out there to mostly rent for now and move to someday when I retire. Maybe sooner? I love it out there so much. I've never been where you went and it looks like a wonderful way to spend a day. Thanks for sharing your adventures! This one put me in a relaxed state of mind, imagining myself out there. Keep doing what you do. You're awesome.
No cell service!
To get away from the digitally connected life to connect with nature, God and self reflection.
That’s so true!
That's right, men don't have a problem with women doing what they want... It's a feminist lie.
A little pepper spray goes a long way.
I’ve seen Deliverance! I’ve never seen woman run when they hear banjos!
I love Joshua tree! It’s beautiful have fun I started doing solo trips only just a year and a half ago after never Did on my own in the past.
Good for you Kelly. I agree. I wish my dad was around to watch this video. I love to hear the sounds of the birds, the wind and the trees too.
Exactly! 54 yrs young and agree
I hike alone! But then again I’m always alone... today was a blessing in the hiking gods for me
You are such an inspiration! We are an all-female team of equestrian vaulters in NC. (Teenagers) And we train like crazy - not just
on our horses, but running, working out, doing ballet and gymnastics, all of it outdoors (even when we're freezing).
@@AliceFordAdventures Thank you!
I've visited your page. You gals are amazing! Good to have role models on here like Alice!
That is the deeper meaning for me too. Good luck on your future through hikes I am very happy to hear you’re going to give it a try.
You go girl! Don't let others tell you what you can and can't do.
May you always live an adventurous life.
Happy trails.
I solo hike also, u connect with the gods alone, less people the better.
Your Father sounds like a wise man. Don't listen to the trolls. Great video and topic. Keep up the great work. =)
Thank you Mike. My dad was the greatest. Truly inspires me to get outside every day
Worth mentioning...The Garmin InReach (clearly visible on the front strap of your backpack) is a game changer for going solo in terrain that is remote and/or has objective dangers.
Thank you so much Darlene. You are so capable, and you can do anything you set your mind too. Stay strong and keep on exploring.
Thank you so much Jessica. I was lucky to have an upbringing in nature I hope you can get out and explore on your own terms too
There’s a unique kind of pain that pierces the soul when you tell someone excitedly that you want to travel here or hike there and you get a fear response.
Thank you Lawrence. Please do, more women need to be brought up to believe they can do anything on their own. :)
"Learn by doing"...a simple yet powerful motto.
Exactly. I feel safer in the rural outdoors than I do in practically any city
I enjoy women taking on different challenges and learning from experience. When things get hard, those are the most memorable memories! Keep it up!!
I’m so proud of you. That is wonderful. Education is such a large key in conquering our fears.
Wise advice from your Dad! I love that! Us women are capable of more than society gives us credit for. That fog is gorgeous!
Thank you so much. The fog was certainly something else on this mountain
ive read an article of this woman, shes a math teacher and always be doing a solo hike
shes been in more than 80 places around north america
thats the first time i got shocked that female is so INDEPENDENT, which is really cool and brave
Yay Eric thank you and yes no crabs lol 😂
That hike turned epic. The fog mixed with the clouds was very beautiful.
Thanks so much for your comment and congrats on pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and trying solo backpacking. YOU ROCK
This makes sense. Always let someone know where you are going and have a reliable partner somewhere if the worst should happen.
I agree that solo hiking is a great thing to do as a woman. I love spending time by myself!
Me too good for you
Way late on stumbling across this video, but as a serious hiker and a single dad of two young women, wanted to say thanks for the message.
😆 I love that!
Thank you.
Thanks for your comment Karen, so happy to connect with other female hikers. See you on the trail
I really enjoyed this so thank you 🙏
So glad to hear that. Good luck on your video journey I’ll check out your channel
@@AliceFordAdventures Thank you Alice, I would appreciate your feedback and wisdom! 🙏
Hi Peter. I love the idea of a solo hikers guild!
You're not stupid at all. You're freaking awesome!
Thank you Jody
Thanks for taking me hiking with you. : )
You be careful and vigilant. Enjoy our wondrous world. Your hikes look inviting.
I am encouraged to hear how your dad was an inspiration to you. I hope that I can be such a dad to my daughter.
As a father of a young girl (and boy) I find this inspirational!
Awesome! Love that place. Never thought to hike up the road in the winter. What a great idea!
I subscribed without even checking the content tbh (though I’m sure it’s worth it). I’m a woman and we need more women going solo hiking (or solo anything else), I feel like a lot of women would want to but they don’t for obvious reasons. love from italy 🇮🇹
Thank you 🙏 I so agreee. Thank you so much for subscribing I’ll be bringing much more solo travel and hiking videos soon
Awesome. Thanks John you aren’t the first to recommend this hike so I better get myself back up there and do it
Thank you for showing so much female courage + adventurous spirit so that we step into embracing our own!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching LeAnn.
Well said!!! It's sad how social media and fear have gripped so many. You made it clear, education and training preparation prepares you for what ever could come across. Live and let live. Fear is a major problem preventing people from truly living. Good luck and God bless.
I so agree! Thanks for watching
Reminds me of the Blair witch those hiking woods at the beginning 😂
You have a lot of wisdom. Your dad was right. Keep on keeping on.... "Life is the ultimate experience, but you must experience it."
Good for you, to show love for the outdoors and just doing it. You are an inspiration.
If you ever come to Vancouver Island, I'll take you on some incredible hikes.
My family ranches in the Big Bend region of Texas. I’m out there all the time climbing the mountains on my own. I love the solitude...
I think its great! I think people just want you to be safe. That's all! Just take precautions Carry your whistle, compass, you know! Rock on!
Thanks again it’s watching alone but it’s like a friend too. Have a great time my friend.
Cheers!
Thanks Joseph! You too, always happy to hear from other hiking lovers
I love hiking too, also I love seeing beautiful nature. Thanks!
Great video Alice. I sent it to my oldest daughter for inspiration!
Thank you and keep up the good work.
Good for you. Many men don't even like to hike by themselves (myself included unless you count walks around the park).
Keep up the good work , I recently hiked Half Dome in Yosemite valley all by my self, and I was definitely the only girl that was hiking solo, but I loved it, one of the greatest experience.
One of the most beautiful videos I've ever watched. Thank you. You are an inspiration.
Absolutely love the Smokies! Love all the fog it gives such a moody vibe! Thanks for sharing 👍
It sure does
That Plan B turned into a great hike! The fog rolling in like waves and hugging the hillsides totally reminded me of the coastal redwoods area in CA and a prior adventure out there before the pandemic. Thanks for making and sharing the video plus the pep talk about facing one's fears! Same pep talks I've given my daughters :)
The mist and fog was absolutely other-worldly; gorgeous
It sure was. It was mesmerizing
