    Fun fact;
    13 sentinels was the birth of wearing sunglasses as a cool meter on the channel haha 😎

    This theme plays during the final mission that's basically you trying to drive off the enemy hoard until the world can be saved, with the different sections coming in at intervals as you close in on the end of the mission with more and more stronger enemies coming at you during each. One of my favorite themes from the game, and an amazing finale to one of my favorite games.

    It's constant tension because it's the final fight of what is essentially a tower defense mission. At this point, it's your squad of heroes against the entire output of the enemy army which can focus all of its units on a singular location. You have to hold the line or all is lost and of course things go from bad to worse as you try, desperately, to hold on. The player knows that you have to hold for a period of time, but the game gives you no meter to indicate how long it's going to take. Instead you get short breathers where you're told the progress and each time the music ramps up even more until you get to the home stretch. Things are looking worse than ever before as the HUD fills up with red but you get those vocals which evoke a similar moment from earlier in the game. It's a magical moment when that clicks and you realize the struggle is almost over.
    13 Sentinels is one of my favorite games ever for its incredibly ambitious approach to storytelling and scope of concepts. If you love sci fi, every trope and story idea you can think of is represented and they made it work. It's true what the creators said - there will never be another 13 Sentinels. I highly recommend anyone reading this try this game.

    13 Sentinels is one of the most amazing games I've ever played. It's a weird hybrid of visual novel and a tactical mech combat game, with some RPG elements mixed in. And part of the problem is that you cannot explain what makes it amazing without spoiling one of the most fantastically creative stories I've ever seen in a video game.

    By the way, the last part of the theme (the one with the vocals) is basically the game's title screen music, Brat Overflow. So in-game, you're hearing those ethereal vocals both at the beginning of the game when you boot it up, and then in the final phase of the final battle. Gotta love it when games bring things full-circle with their music like that.
    Also, I'm hearing The Windmill Peak from A Hat in Time in the intro. Nice.

    This is one of those songs that's incredible on its own, but its elevated by the games sound design and gameplay. This song plays at the apex of the every characters last stand in the game. Explosions happening everywhere, as each phase of the song transitions into another section of the fight, the characters screaming out to one another as the final hope for humanity is fought for in this completely demolished city. It's such an incredible moment that's elevated solely through sound, as the visual representation in 13 Sentinels is minimal, yet effective. Truly an incredible game!

    In general a red dot on your minimap represents an enemy. For most of the track (and therefore, most of the battle), your ENTIRE map is almost fully covered in just RED. All enemies advancing on you, trying to stop you. And each time you clear some red out, more suddenly spawn in to fill the space
    As the battle goes on, the red is slowly dissipating due to your efforts. You've weathered the storm. Your entire team is battered and on their last legs.
    A few more minutes. Just have to hold out for a few minutes more.
    And then the vocals kick in. And you, as a player, just feel revitalized. It gives you that boost you think you need to see it through.

    Listening to your explanation on the song was super interesting. I of course heard in the background while playing a very intense combat sequence, but haven’t really sat down and just listened intently. I definitely felt that “on the edge” feeling that you described, and it made me a bit uncomfortable. I do think that’s very fitting for the context it has within the game, though.

    • @Taifundevilry09
      @Taifundevilry09 Год назад +3

      Yeah, I had the same feeling. To be honest, this is not one of my favorite songs from this game, but it really works in the context of the game. Makes everything even more intense on that combat.
      Incidentally, I just noticed that I was introduced to both of your channels through 13 Sentinels! Your playthrough was really fun to watch, Bunny!

    The 13 Sentinels soundtrack is one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to at work, particularly the Breached versions (which is an official remix album).
    Edge of the Future and Seaside Vacation are two of the most impactfull songs in the game for me.
    Edge of the Future where the 13 main characters are desperately fighting what they believe to be an impossible fight. Not giving up since it's their only chance to live and they're not going to just sit there and let it all end. The vocals of Brat Overflow kicking in when they realize they might actually win. It's just so powerful.
    Seaside Vacation is an in universe pop song that starts playing in a battle where they realize what the odds are and how everything might be hopeless. Yet one character sings a song to give them hope that they might see the sunrise.
    God this game is an amazing, crazy, ride.

    It's a throwback for me too because that other reaction you did on 13 Sentinels was the first video I watched in your channel. I was obsessed with the game at the time, so I was searching for a lot of stuff about the game on RUclips and Google, maybe that's why the algorithm recommended your video for me.
    Anyway, this game is really special. The narrative is pretty unique as far as video games go, there is really nothing quite like it. I know this is asking too much and the game probably doesn't interest you, but I really wish you could play it someday during stream. The game is fully voice acted so I think that helps the streamer (you don't need to read any text) and its plot is full of mysteries that makes you create a lot of theories during your playthrough, which is fun to watch. Overall, I'd say it's a great game to stream. Hope you consider someday, even if it's as a homage for being one you of your first reactions. hahaha
    I doubt the game will disappoint you. Too many unique things and the story is really intriguing. The art is also superb.

    The composer Hitoshi Sakimoto also composed most of the music for FF12! you can hear a lot of his style in here! He's really come to be one of my favorite video game music creators

  • @Maxbeedo2
    @Maxbeedo2 Год назад +5

    4:00 This was the section that sounded the most "Hitoshi Sakimoto-like" to me out of the whole soundtrack, as he's mostly been known for orchestral works for medieval fantasy settings (sounds very similar to parts of The Battle For Freedom from FFXII), and it honestly took me way too long during the game to realize he was the composer, to his credit.

      Battle for Freedom is my favourite track from FFXII and hearing that section of Edge of the Future with the horns and strings was such a moment in game! The fact it all builds up to Brat Overflow but with those Sakimoto horns sells the scene so well.
