Hal played in a bar outside of Hays, KS back in the 90's and a friend of mine who was tending bar had a nice conversation with him. She said he was very nice to her and a few months later when he appeared on Nashville Now he said.."I am going to dedicate this song to Louise from Kansas and played "Small Town Saturday Night." That doesn't sound like a bad person to me...
I was a jock in Country Music when this song came out. I was also going through a rough break up. This song captured all I was feeling back then. Thank you for posting! It's a great song, and he is a stupendous artist. :)
He was a very classy artist, all, the songs from this album were gems, this was my favorite, followed closely by I Know Where Love Lives. I was so sad to hear of his health issues, hope he is better now. It is so distressing to me that many of the great Country Music videos of the 90's are slowly vanishing here on RUclips. I have lost several favorites. I wish they would be reposted.
k so me n john thanksgiving was very nice boys played football game in grandmas yard. BUT very next day who would know that we break up over the lil thing i even called his mom to end it. N i hit him i know i was wrong but im not fighting for him if he dont care. SOO i have no time to visit anyone so i took off n how did i freakin end up at kennys ya never know what each day brings. SOOO this man started singing this song to me with no music, took me off guard. i dont care but was important.
Wow. I hate to hear that he's had so many health issues. I've always considered Hal one of the best song writers in country music. He has a knack for writing songs that evoke strong emotional responses. This is one of them.
I always loved this song, Hal must be a helluva guy, after all, he's riding a Triumph Bonneville ! I was not aware of his health issues posted by Johnny hazzard in this forum, I hope hes fine and healthy these days.
cant believe kenny started singing THIS song no music i was like caught off guard like to seen the look on my face lmfao wish i cared these men r nutss. im done.

Mick Hanly was right. I HATE it when I put messages on folks' answerin' machines, and they never get back to me. Hal hit #2 in Billboard, 5-9-92. God bless!

My fiance was murdered just prior to me seeing this video for the first time. I could relate to being past the point of rescue. Hit home.
Last night I dreamed you were back again
Larger than life again, holding me tight again
Placing those same kisses on my brow
Sweeter than ever now, lord I remember how
Couldn't get enough of kissing, do you know how much you're missing
No you don't, but I do
The days like a slow train trickle by
And even the words that I write refuse to fly
All I can hear is your song haunting me
Can't get the melody out of my head, you see
Distractions are amusing, do you know how much you're losing
No you don't, but I do
But I do, and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue
Is no word from you at all the best that you can do
I never meant to push or shove you, do you know how much I love you
No you don't, but I do
I swore I'd never fall like this again
Fools like me never win, came to my knees again
Can't close the door on likely hood
Things might be just as good, I always believed they would
Gotta let your love invite me, baby do you think it might be
No you don't, but I do
But I do, and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue
Is no word from you at all the best that you can do
I never meant to push or shove you, do you know how much I love you
No you don't, but I do
But I do, and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue
Is no word from you at all the best that you can do
I never meant to push or shove you, do you know how much I love you
No you don't, but I do
I know you don't, but I do
I know you don't, but I do
love this song

Most played song on Country Radio when it was released.
The motorcycle scenes were inspired by the movie the great escape with Steve McQueen.
