Thank you for making this video. Many other videos have the grade of engine oil mixed up between the gear and transmission regions. Even the official guzzi documentation was confusing. This is the clearest instruction video I have watched. Thanks again.
Thanks Mike! When I just bought my second hand Breva, I've had a situation during winter time, where my gearbox would get stuck in 1st gear and couldn't change gear to 2nd until it warmed up. The oil in the gear box must have been very old, it was very thick. I've pun new oil, and problem solved.
Hello Mike! Thank you very much for your video manual. Very good explanation. My Breva has completely new oils and new season can begin. I wish you a lot of miles on your Breva.
Thanks Mike, very well-done video. For the 2021 V7 850 E5 Stone model, the service manual specifies 75W-140 oil for both the gearbox and the final drive. Do you think that it would be ok if we use the same 75-140 for the older model for both gearbox and transmission oil?
Rear transmission box lubrication: N.B. To check the oil level correctly, the transmission box and the swinging arm should be perfectly horizontal, as shown in fig. 27.
Ours has been weeping oil for years around the bell housing. A minor leak is not a problem. If it starts dripping from underneath it's time to check the rear main and gearbox seals.
Mke Any reason why cannot fill final drive oil through the top vent hole and just wait for oil to start dripping out of horizontal hole (which you used to fill the cardan oil)?
@@MikesMachines The bigger question is why Guzzi would design it like that? I guess they needed a way to determine the level of oil by having the port horizontally- as they do for the gearbox oil, but did they really need a vent hole? (the gear box does not have one?). Maybe the top hole really is the fill port because it’s sure darn inconvenient to fill the horizontal port at the rear. The gear box level/fill hole is almost as inconvenient. I realize there are design compromises in any engine design but this vent hole on cardan case is an interesting one. Makes the Guzzi that much more full of character! LOL
Hi, when I remove the Bevel Drive Box from the rear swing arm…will there be oil flodding? Or are the Bevel and the Gearbox separated from each other? (Moto Guzzi V35 IMOLA) Regards
@@MikesMachines OK thanks for the quick answer. What is the purpose of the upper screw on the Bevel Drive Box? The lower is for drain and the middle is for fill in, right?
Hi. I bought a moto guzzi750 ie 2003 , maybe you know what the problem is. I start the moto and it stalls. The engine does not work . when I turn the accelerator it can work a little. and then stops working again. Help somebody...
Hi Mike, would you be so kind to tell me the crush washer and o-ring sizes? I’d like tu buy them before taking them off my motorcycle. What I found on the internet is this information, correct me if anything is wrong. The numbers mean: Inner/Outer/Thickness sump: front - 20/28/2mm rear - 10/18/1.5mm (with plastic insert) filter - 8/15/1mm rubber o-ring - don’t know the size gear box: 10/18/1.5mm (with plastic insert) transmission: 10/18/1.5mm
Those sizes look right but I've always bought them as spares. Front sump washer - GU95100709 Rear sump, gear box & bevel drain washers - GU01528930 You can substitute standard alloy crush washers for the plastic insert sealing washers if need be. The plastic type were a later update. In regards to the o-rings. Inspection/fill plug o-rings 20,24X2,62 - GU90706203 But i doubt that they will need replacing.
Very poor explanation of changing the gearbox oil, in that the principal problem in completing this task is the amount of room between the gearbox oil drain bolt & the catalytic converter (balancer pipe), with oxygen sensor. Because of the conical shape it depends on it's orientation as to how much room you have to remove the drain bung. In other words turn it 90 degrees one way & you will have very little room but turn 90 degrees in other direction & you'll have a lot more room. The difficult factor here in turning the pipe though is that with no main stand they have a pipe that runs from one side of the bike to the other. If the oxygen sensor is above this pipe then the pipe itself may stop you from turning it enough to get the gap you need. This means either removing oxygen sensor or removing the pipe.

Thanks Mike! Clearest video I’ve seen regarding Bevel and Gear box oil change. Cheers from South Dakota.
Thanks for the video. There is no gearbox oil change instructions in Service manual for my Nevada 750ie, so this was helpful
Very helpful, interesting commentary.

I really like your videos. I have a V7 that I’m very happy with.
Love your videos, no nonesense practical approach. Thank you
I like the way you include the torque setting. So many don't, drives me crackers.
Excellent as usual Mr Mike!
Very well filmed and explained. Thank you ✌

Which torque must be tightened the two filler plugs of gearbox and bevel drive?

Surely u can put the new rear wheel oil in through the top filler plug
Very nice. Doesn’t look too bad to do.
Sir. 2008 Moto Guzzi Nevada warning lights flashing before start and green N warning light continues continues to flash after start. Thank, Bob
Very nice. Thanks!
I kindly ask if before replacing the oil it is necessary to do it with a warm engine? Thanks in advance for your reply
No, but the oil will drain faster if it is warm.

Hi Mike, I saw some oil seep at the bellhousing. It happened to my 2012 V7S too. I wonder if that is not that bad?

@@MikesMachines Thanks for the reply. So I shouldn’t worry much on my v7s 😅
It's worth getting a second opinion locally if it concerns you.
Hi Mike, do you know if the procedure for a ‘96 Nevada is the same?
Yes it should be the same.

Yes, the gearbox and bevel drive are separate.

The upper fitting is the breather, the middle is the fill and level plug and the lower is the drain plug.
@@MikesMachines is the upper a valve or how does it breathe?
I've never had one apart so can't say
Thanks Mike, very useful as it's a job I am about to do. Slightly off topic can I ask which make of flyscreen you have fitted.
It was factory fitted. The part numbers are GU32575210 or GU32575211 depending on type.

I don't even measure the oil, I just fill it till it comes out the fill hole, let it drain till it comes to a trickle, then it's full, cap it..
