I was a seaman specialist and gunner, firefighter, and rapid response party member in The Royal Navy. Never taught this much basic knowledge in such a comprehensive and relaxed way.

just started with rowing end of 04/2024 ... I began rowing in a coastal skiff (35 kg heavy polyester boat with lots of buoyancy) with slide rigger (Virus Turbo 2) and I can handle rowing in every weather conditions and traffic conditions (with cargo ships and crazy speed boaters in Dutch channels). Excellent video ... best introduction "all around" with all relevant aspects for a real beginner. Tks for Whitehall and Adam . :-) (P.S.: Not has changed a lot beside new oar shapes e.g. Concept2 Comp(act) and the collar rings are now with double walls mounted on the sleeves. Iit just broke exactly that kind of oar ring (as in your video) on old dreissigacker Macom oars, suppose more than 30 years old oars built with glasfibre.)

We’re so glad you enjoyed the video and it’s still relevant. It was filmed over 10 years ago!

Really good instructions for a beginner like me. I've seen the hole film several times, and enjoy looking at it in between practice to evaluate my progress on the water. Thank you so much!

An additional way to adjust direction I was taught: Press on the foot board with one foot- right foot to go right, left foot to go left. This is great for trimming direction gradually.

Hi there , i really appreciate this video as i have a friend , dave , who really struggles with his oar skills , hes tried for years to figure out which way to hold them , and has broken several attempting to be normal . He calls himself the master of server 160 on age of warring empire and hes a master of nothing , he literally cant hold his oar the correct way up wtf? I mean who cant hold an oar up properly , the same person who buys hacked gold coins on his main account and gets it banned AND PAYS a hacker to do it ... I rest my case , thanks for the video , mr slave for prime minister
