This is by far one of my top favorite pieces I've ever played. Whether I have a cool part or not, it's the whole piece that makes it worthwhile. I love cool music, and this most certainly qualifies. As a side note; I did have a cool part for this. The flute part is challenging and very fun. The solo was fun too. Personally, I think the soprano sax part is much harder. They have all these 16th/32nd note runs with tons of accidentals.
Played this song in my school orchestra back in my sophomore year. We worked so hard to get it right, and we had so much fun playing it; we even went on to win 2nd place in the State Championship with this piece! Out of all the pieces we played in orchestra, this is still my favorite.
when i first learned about the actual story behind these songs, i almost burst into tears while in the middle of playing purgatorio. it's just. such an overpowering story i can't even..
I feel like this entire movement (all 4 songs) is going to be me reliving the time I played it in concert band, because so many memories are flooding back now
Freshman year of high school: The Ascension. Junior year of high school: The Inferno. Gotta beg music director to play this for senior year. French horn FTW!
Played this last year ans I'm coming back to its cuz its AWESOME!! playing a few others from him also like the ascention and the inferno xD can't wait!!!
Our band played this last year(2015-16), along with movement III. The Acsencion. It was amazing and we had one of the most amazing clarinet players I've ever met play some of the solos...
We played all 4 pieces of the Divine Comedy last year, I got the flute solo in this one! LOVED IT! Hate how it's played here though, no emotion or feeling behind it :( seems like they just wanted to get it over with lol. I freakin basked in my glory,
I want to play this suite so much. ;A; My high school band director had the Inferno, and I tried to talk him into at least sight-reading it with us, but he wouldn't go for it. :c
we were gonna play this in band and I would've gotten the flute solo, but it snowed and then our guest saxophone soloist couldn't make it when we rescheduled the concert
lol ok, so we're doing all 4 movements for our concert tomorrow, and there's one part that cues a "mournful wail" the Inferno and we all just crack up xD
I love this song sincerely! They're just to hard because its so fast and my fingers on my clarinet can't seem to run as fast as my director wants them T_T
This song is totally freaking AWESOME. But the singing was weird though. We had to get help from our choir friends. lol. My senior's playing the Flute solo. Yeah, Band rocks. I love my flute. sorry for the crappiness...
