You take the head off, feed 7’ of cord thru the center hole in the bump knob spool. Put the two ends thru the feeder holes on the machine, put the spool in and twist the cord into the machine until on 7.5” remains to cut with. And then put the cover back over the bump nob spool
This is one of the best reviews that I have watched. I was ready to return my new WG173 for the 186 until you showed the weight. The 173 is about half the weight, which is what I need to have. This is my first WORX product and it works like a charm. My only negative comment is that the instructions that they give you are a joke. The print is so small that they should include a magnifying glass with each purchase. Also if it wasn’t for YOU TUBE I wouldn’t have been able to assemble and use the WG173. Great job!
Thank you, I appreciate that! If you're looking for a leaf blower, the 40V Leaf Jet is a handy item. Not too heavy, but decent power.
Can you show how to reload the string a bit more in depth
Awesome review. The gold standard. Really couldn't be better. Thanks!
Thanks Brian, appreciate it!😎👊
Trimmer gets here on Tuesday. Ordered the chainsaw. Looks great. Can’t wait to start using it.
That's cool, I like the trimmer! I haven't tested the chainsaw out yet.
Dammit. I have literally bought every variation of their weed wacker and they keep coming out with better ones and I keep buying them because they're so awesome.. now I have to buy this one.
You can't go wrong with this one. I like the brush cutter attachment too.
Great review. I’m considering getting this trimmer and this answered a lot of my questions and gave me a good idea of the tool’s overall functionality. The compatible extra attachments were a pleasant surprise! Our driveway is lined with 20ft tall hedges that rain leaves & debris on our vehicles when they get overgrown. The fact that there’s an available hedge trimmer attachment is fantastic! Btw, wherever you are in this video looks very much like my home town in north central Illinois. Very nostalgic. Thanks again for a really helpful vid 🙏
That's cool! I'd like to try the hedge trimmer with this. I'm sure it would work well.
Mine didn't come with a shoulder strap, so I'll look at generic ones. I got the chain saw and the hedge trimmer. My chain was too tight , but my hedge trimmer worked well. I started out with the WG471 snow blower, then got the WG753 lawn mower, so I have lots of 4-5 A/Hr batteries. Nice review. I wouldn't mind finding out the replacement string to use.
I have the 185E which is similar to the 186 and both are poorly designed. They do not have a guard spacer so the cord can quite easily get sheared and disappear into the housing. If you bump the strimmer on grass to extend the cord you will make a mess of the bump area. There is no facility to easily attach a harness to help with the weight and the strimmer has a fixed length which makes it awkward to use. If the 186 is similar to the 185 then I could only give them both 1 star.
Edge trimmer. Go Stars!
💯🙌
Excellent video. Thanks for info.
You bet, thanks!🙌
Great review dude
Thanks man, appreciate it!
How do you change the trimmer string? I got one of these w/hedge trimmer. Works great for that, but need to restring the trimmer.
Great video. I just purchased with the edger attachment. Tired of dragging cords.
Same here, cords are a pain to deal with.
How do you loosen the chain?
How can I reload the String reels
How long do the batteries last
I just got the trimmer - can I use the brush blade from an old gas trimmer or do I have to buy the Worx brush blade?
In the past, I've used different brush blades on my other trimmers as long as their the same size. The arbor hole needs to match up too.
awesome vid
Thanks Eric👊
How much time for the battery DORK?
No one ever puts worx in comparison tests against other brands.
Why? Are worx weak or cheap?
Why, aren't worx good enough?
@@adrianjuarez9865mine is solid and has a 5 year warranty.
I’ve got a slightly older version (2 years?) of their string trimmer at my Texas house. It has a button feed for the string when it break, but I don’t find it very useful. At my Calif. house, I have another of their string trimmers and, if I remember correctly it has a “bump feed” system that works better. I have a bunch of Worx tools in CA, but they are 56V (?) single battery. In TX, I just have the string trimmer, blower, pressure washer and chainsaw.
This Nitro series is more heavy duty than the one you're mentioning with the button feed. I'd call this series a pro-sumer level.
How does it compare to the makita 18x2 or the Dewalt flex volt?
¿merece la pena la versión brusless, 100 $ mas cara?
Hi mark,
How do you compare this model worx to ego’s auto feed kit for $299. I’ve seen a worx model that seems very similar to the ego for $349 except I don’t think there’s any auto feed or auto spool like the ego.
however the one thing that worx has over the ego is that you can do attachments instead of having to buy separate machines like the ego
I've had a close look at the Ego, but haven't run it to see the balance and how it performs. At one time, I think they offered a carbon shaft, which is very lightweight. The auto feed seemed to work very well. I don't think it holds that much trimmer line though.
The WORX is easy to load manually and holds more line. The attachments are reasonably priced and work well. I like to use the brush blade from time to time.
@@MarkThomasBuilder thx for your reply. I ended up buying the worx nitro tonight along w/ the brush cutter for it. I was real tempted to also get the pole saw but i know nothing about chainsaw maintenance. However, i will check reviews as always. I saw the pruner they also have, as well as a smaller pruner tool. The tool I am most interested in atm from worx right now is their jawsaw - now that looks interesting and def up my alley for use since i trim a lot of trees.
I gave some serious thought about getting this nitro now while taking advantage of worx special 40% sale plus an additional 15% off that and Ego. As much as I hate bump heads, in the end Worx worked out for me since it would be less to buy machine wise. It also weighs less than the ego too.
Fingers crossed i like these units.
Good info
Thank you!
Only real complaint I have with my WG186 is that the bottom of the string-trimmer cutting head doesn't sit low enough to allow for me to get a close, flat cut. I have to tilt the head and often that gives me some uneven disk shapes along the edges of my grass area. My older, smaller and weaker WG163, since the cutting head doesn't have to be as thick (and takes the small trimmer-line cartridges) lets me just rest the bottom on the grass and gives me a close, perfect cut. I still have that WG163, and sometimes I just slap one of the 4.0Ah batteries from the Nitro in it and do my more finicky work. Other than that single complaint I really like the WG186 and the chainsaw attachment I bought with it. I didn't get the edger and the brush attachment. So for going insane on some tall grass and weeds in the back yard, I use the Nitro... then I tidy up the front with the smaller WG163.
Interesting. I don't mow my grass that short, so it didn't notice that issue. Glad everything else is working well for you.
@@MarkThomasBuilder I usually cut my Zoysia grass to around 2 1/2". Maybe I trim too low with the whacker, though, because you can always tell where I trim. I'd imagine the best look is to NOT be able to see the difference. Thanks for the reply!
Do you need TWO batteries to run this unit?
Yes
can you use the extention with the line trimmer or is just for the chain saw? Thanks.
The extension should work for every attachment.
How do you load the string? Only have been able to find videos for GT string trimmer not this one.
It similar to a speed feed head on other trimmers. Check the manual link here that goes into more details. It's much easier than the old way. www.worx.com/media/wysiwyg/pdp-pages/manuals/WG186M.pdf
The Manuel doesn’t explain it. I am confused as to if you feed one end of the line through? 2 separate lines at the same time. It’s very confusing. The only way I can get it to work is by hand winding the spool then of course the bump feed doesn’t work. Very poor instructions…other than that I love the power of the trimmer.
Is the trimmer guard removable?
Is this the 186.9?
Yes, same model. The 9 on the end is only used to separate the tools with no batteries included from those with batteries.
186E.92
I am having separation anxiety with my WG 186/WA 0221 combo.Between cutting runs, the shaft diconnects. It makes no noise when it does...I discover it when I next fire it up--noise but no blade spin.
To fix it in the field, I unceremoniously stand it up power side down, and thump it til I hear the units reconnect. Is a design flaw or am I doing something wrong? It's about a half inch of separation within the shaft
I have the same problem and have found no cure. Company has putrid customer service.
Can u hook up the extension up to any other tool except the saw?
The extension works with all accessories.
Oh ok I thought it just worked with the pole saw
@@reckeyspinhouse162 I actually tested it with all my attachments and planned to show the extension on the trimmer, but I believe I edited that part out due to the video getting too long. I mentioned how the extended trimmer is handy for trimming around a pond, so you can reach further out and not get your feet wet.
Got it
Shoulder pad for the Canadian
honestly...is the trimmer wire easy to wind into the head? At this price-point, I was expecting something easier than a two piece system where I still have to load the wire
Yes, this particular trimmer has the upgraded easy to wind trimmer head.
Question: are u in the sun joe commercial
Yes, I haven't seen myself on tv yet.
Yeah I thought I saw you with your riding lawn mower washing it
@@reckeyspinhouse162 Someone else I know sent me a text yesterday saying they saw me too. 😁
Oh ok I thought it was your voice and then it said Mark T
how does it compare to a gas power?
It works well for normal trimmer maintenance. If you're doing ditch trimming in tall weeds, you'll want to get gas.
how do i get the extension pole? dont seem to find the link for it ?
nvm it comes with the chainsaw machine
Cool!
I have the gt revolution
Nice, it looks like a handy setup.
@@MarkThomasBuilder yeah it is handy
The gt is nice but not enough power at times.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: What attachments would you get besides the trimmer? Would you like to see any other attachments available for this?
Hello
Hi good to hear from you! Are you still playing Roblox?
@@MarkThomasBuilder Yes i am
The pole saw
The soldering iron.
Mine cuts on and off
I'm not sure why that is. If it's under warranty, you may want to check with them.
If you order there product , you better double check and make sure you get the right batter and charger ! Batters are NOT interchangeable!
Good point.
Sorry no work for me I'm talking about the tool
Oh well, thanks for stopping by🤷♂️👋
