It's a bit of a shame that they removed a scene from the manhwa, after Sung Jin Woo kills the dude from the association, one of the prisoners was still alive and pretending to be dead, he had his vocal chords cut so after the girl and old dude leave the dungueon, Jin Woo takes that prisoners and throws him into the boss room that had hundreds of goblins.
My thoughts exactly. I wanted Jin Woo to make the prisoner suffer to show how brutal he has become that made him even more awesome. But the episode as it is now isn't too bad

very glad they got rid of this scene! It unhumanised jin-woo and was so random and dark. Also makes no sense why kang taeshik, a professional B rank assassin couldn’t kill a mere c rank hunter. Very happy the anime is fixing the issues the novel and manwha had.
@@KiIZero Well Kang was toying with them, not trying to kill them immediately so it makes sense one was still alive. But I agree that it's not necessary for Sungs progression. They're making it more gradual in the anime.

What you called that corny line is actually a quote from philosopher Frederich Nietzsche, and I think it’s very representative of the show. In the manhwa it was not said by Kang but by the narrator. However, I think it was important that Kang says it for he also ended up becoming the thing he fought:
"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." Nietzsche

Fun Fact: Jin Woo is potentially stronger in the Anime then in the Manhwa because here he defeated the B-Rank Kang Tae Shik with just a Full Recovery and his own abilities but in the Manhwa he needed Joo Hee to give him a Haste and Burn Boost Enhancement in order to initially keep up and then slowly as he became more experienced with fighting another human and understanding how to read Killing Intent, he was able to defeat the B Rank but again the enhancements from Joo Hee was an important part to his victory (further evidence of her help being important comes from Jin Woo claiming that his speed was equal to the B Rank AFTER he got the enhancements and before he used "Skill: Dash")
@@refertopfp9627 i mean yeah... but it would've been nice to see that struggle while fighting the "top 1 rank B". It felt like a hard but necessary fight in the manhwa and that's kinda what made it shine.
My understanding is they are mostly pulling from the LN and getting the art direction from the manhwa. Honestly he has kind of been nerfed in this fight from the LN where he was in control the entire time.
They didn't have time to extend the fight, so he looks stronger, while the fight with that gatekeeper was longer and he looked weaker.
In the novel he defeated Kang without Joo-hee's help and anime is being adapted from the novel.
I didn't notice this before but he also has a higher Intelligence Stat in the anime then the Manhwa as well as his level being lesser then his Manhwa counterpart. Although the stats don't usually make too big of a difference unless it's atleast 5 points of a difference and intelligence has nothing to do with his combat power, maybe skill use duration but I can't imagine that 4 point difference being all that big

(if you use Solo Leveling Ragnarok then a point is a 10% increase because a 10 Points increase doubled Suho's Mana and because Jin Woo uses almost the same system and power scaling difference between the two isn't too big, although Suho is weaker in terms of pure stats and combat ability due to not having as convenient a Daily Quest as Jin Woo and not having the Daily Quest for as long as Jin Woo)

I wonder, will they use they use "Shadow Monarch" or "Shadow Lord" as his title. I saw someone said before that translation wise Shadow lord is much closer and Shadow Monarch is probably a stylistic choice of the translator. I personally want them to use shadow monarch as his title tho..

The anime deviates from the original manga in a few ways, but I can still say I am enjoying both greatly. Mostly just overjoyed that they are actually taking their time to tell this fantastic story

Thing is though, Kang didn't have to kill any of the other hunters. He made it clear before they entered, if the prisoners acted up, he'd take care of em. He could've easily lied and say they jumped him and claim self defense. But as you saw, he was just having fun at that point
For those following through the manwha, this episode adapts all the way up to the end of ch 34. Here’s to all fore-Shadowing definitely paying off as the anime gets closer to “That” moment and the preluding action that leads up to it.

I feel like the blood-thirstiness of Sung is rubbing off on Alicia XD. It was a cold cold take when she saw that the Assassin took out witness brutally and went, "Ye I can understand you have to take out witnesses". Damn.. Dude took out an innocent soul because he got in the way. I suppose, that is the point of this genre.. So long as it is a game, it is just pixel for points. Kill something, get better stuff. Which is why I find fascinating when Anime does the genre of Video Game, because suddenly these pixels are no longer just pixels. It is harder to look at it from a pure "Do X, Get Y" perspective 😂

The anime seems to removed the part we're one of the prisoners is still alive, he noticed due to his high perception, grab by his collar, and toss him in the den of goblins and got mauled to death

What he says about "the stronger i get, the more i feel something inside of me fallnig apart" that's the true sad thing about his power. We never got to see again some sides of him that were shown before he gets the "system" power. Which is kinda expected given he doesnt have a limiter like Saitama. But stil kinda sad that's the price to pay.

I highly recommend reading the Manwah in your own time along side the anime because the the anime is going based off the LN but the manwah has just as good art and has some cold scenes too

"Corny" line was very important, keep it in the back of your head, some very good writing this episode. Also on god, Dripwoo in certain shading sometimes really reminds me of the smiling statue from the first episode (like in the thumbnail), just without the smile. Big hmm's all around

I don't really like the way they translated Kim's apology in this particular sub, if I'm honest. He says more specifically that he wants to "apologise while bowing his head," and the missing part from the Manhwa is that if he's worried he'll die before saying what he wants to say if he lowers his head for an apology. In the end, he manages to keep his head held up until he says his apology and bows his head while dying.

That line waa not in the webtoon lol....also jin woo line Is double down when one of the prisoniers was actually alive and jin woo feeds him to goblins because jin woo was told about what he did.
I'm glad they took that out. It was there for edge, but didn't match up with the flow of his character progression.

@@rubenarmstrong262 We're only in the first season, and he doesn't even have his class yet. It's a slow descent, and he's even acknowledging he's losing a bit of himself everytime he gets stronger. He's not just going to become the kind of guy that tortures people overnight. It takes time to fundamentally change who a person is. Especially when you're doing it right.
That scene was done to be edgy and brutal. But it doesn't fit the flow at all.

Sung is literally going to get the job quest this season, and literally the next arc it goes into the one I referenced whether its in the next season or a cliff hanger ending to season 1 it is going to happen and it is a worst look for jinwoo. Here it is not edgey what jinwoo dislikes is the strong Take an advantage of the weak which is what that prisoner did, he didnt Torture him he gave he to the golbins and they killed him, some might agrue that was to good for him when something like that is done to your kids...so with that it fits the narrative far better, what it probably was was a time issue where they rework that whole scene.

I loved the episode, but I hate that they changed the death of the last prisoner. One was still alive, and after Jinwoo killed Kang, he noticed he was still alive, sent the others ahead, and literally fed him to a pack of goblins. I guess the anime team thought that was too dark of an act for the main character to commit. I think it's the difference between Korean, Western and Japanese sensibilities at play (as the original story is Korean, but the anime is Japanese). Japan has always been more lax on punishing sex criminals, and I guess they don't realise that Western and Korean viewers would have no problem with Jinwoo murdering a sex criminal in such a brutal way.
It was probably the time restraints imo, the episode would excess the time limit if they added that scene, the fight was way longer in the manhwa as well
@@EduardoOliveira-qy1km I think that played a part, but it's a big step in Jinwoo's character. It's the first time he really murdered someone, as the dudes in the spider dungeon and Kang were actually trying to kill him. So, IMO, it must have been cut for more than just time. I still think it was due to the studio fearing that having Jinwoo kill someone defenceless in such a brutal way would alienate the viewers. At least, I think the Japanese viewers. I don't think any Western or Korean viewer would have a problem with it. It's a fact that Japan has a higher number of sexual crimes, and their punishments are a lot less severe than the West. So I think it was cut as Jinwoo murdering someone begging for their life who can't fight back is too much for them as they (Average Japanese viewers) just don't think he deserved it.
And I say defenceless as Kang already seriously wounded the guy. If a heavy-weight boxing champ is hit by a car and breaks both legs, he is helpless, regardless of his fitness and boxing skills.
@@Twiska He didn't even kill the guy though, he just let him die trying to fight the boss, that doesn't count as murder in my opinion, and the guy wasn't actually defenseless, he was a fighter-type hunter, he was just too weak compared to the horde of monsters in the boss chamber

@@Twiska In the manhwa it's almost the same, the difference being that the criminal couldn't beg or scream because his tongue was cut off before Jinwoo found him, and he's not exactly thrown at the goblins, just dragged inside the boss chamber, he could try to run away but he wouldn't be able to escape anyways

Glad Alicia is enjoying this anime. It's super entertaining but whenever I watch it I feel like it was made to be the ultimate video game nerd power fantasy that keep getting more self indulgent and edgy. Not shitting on the show since a lot of great storys are made for the reader to wish they were the protagonist but it's silly how any nerd would love to be Sung Jin Woo while he is so edgy about becoming a badass that girls fall over themselves for.
That’s kinda why it’s awesome. It’s just totally feeding into something that is a fun ass idea. I’ve hit a point in my life where I don’t really cringe at something that just makes me happy. Kinda like how I like stuff with vampires in it. Sure a lot is repetitive and edgy but that doesn’t make it any less fun.
@@Aliciaxlife I assumed watching the last episode that the prisoners were going to assault red hair girl and the association guy was going to let it happen in order to force our boy to show his real powers. Little did I know what was going to happen was edgier than I could have predicted which is actually pretty refreshing in an awesome way.

@@byrondejong9872 it's not a spoiler when there's no context (i have not said WHO, or Why) , and in the novel, it's explained (in the same episode) that nurses usually go for hunters because of their wealth, basically for mere interest, it wasnt a thing exclusive for jin woo
That line was written before it was a cliche. Other stores steal from stories that use it properly and make it overdone. So basically ur complaining about one of the early adopters of a cliche line because it took decades for the story to get adapted.
I hope you’re not talking about solo leveling because the web novel came out in late 2016 so it definitely hasn’t been decades and positive solo leveling wasn’t one of the first pieces of media to use that line

Not even close. SAO was trash with it's pacing and jumping around in the first season. Hell Abridged was better than the actual show.

@@Xeno_Solarus Except it isn't. It constantly ignored plot points and jumped around timeline wise. The Abridged actually showed how events could still scar a person in the first season, like how he lost his guild due to one mistake, instead of basically it not being a thing that was mentioned again(except maybe once?).
Remember, I'm not talking about later seasons, but the very first one.
