  • In this video, I installed the underlayment for the tile floor. This underlayment, also called an uncoupling mat, will be the buffer between the concrete and the tile. It will allow for movement during temperature changes as well as earthquakes to prevent cracks. I had an issue of improperly mixing the mortar that I troubleshooted and worked through. It's always best to back up and do something twice than to do it wrong and have issues later. Enjoy!

Hola! 🖐Really cool video. Showing how rework is more common than we may want to believe and showing the test/trial process is SUPER helpful to many. This is a good reminder that when trying something new, having a test run is a good idea before jumping into it on a large scale. Good on you for showing that. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊

Nice job on the test, you learned that it’s a slurry that’s required for the underside of an uncoupling membrane… I, too, work with a half bag at a time… however, the pros will cut the bottom portion of a bucket off, and insert that into another uncut bucket… this will give you about a 6 gallon bucket with much more room to operate for the mix 👍🏻

Good work. Test patches and mixing smaller amounts is never a bad idea. Pros might come and tell you all the things you did wrong but for a novice home owner you only did one thing that you should be mindful of in the future. Work your way from a starting point to an exit. You never wan to go across or sit on fresh mortar or grout. It can cause low spots and unevenness under your tile. If you can't reach across the full width try half the sheet lengthwise as an alternative. Still good job brother.

this came up on my feed. I am a CTC in the tile industry and always like to look for the positive things. Great job on work , and taking up and trying to do the project right. may I suggest etching the floor for a better bond . and probably suggest a different underlayment. or always make sure that product has been independently tested and has an ASTM # on it. to my knowledge customs has none. always coping others products and not sure how many they pull and re release. I do commend the diyers and trying to do things right. nice work.

8:00 I could be wrong but I don't think you are supposed to walk on that till dry. You should plan ahead as to how you are going to go from start to end without walking on it.
