- Thumb is a great song from Dinosaur jr's 1991 album Green Mind. This performance is with Dinosaur jr main man J mascis and his project called J Mascis and the FOG at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden 2001. J Mascis (guitar, vocals), Mike Watt (bass) and George Berz (drums).

thumb = my favorite solo of all time
I hate to say it but if i were in that croud hearding what J & Co were producing i would not be stood still,This has to be the BEST version of ''Thumb'' Evere..Dance you Bastards!
I'm going to go see him in November at the Showbox in Seattle. I'm so stoked. I've always wanted to see him. I thought it was too late, but lo' and behold, Nov of 09', he's comin' to town!! Oh yeah...
@Dave-O Def Mike Watt. His bass playing fits the sound perfectly, and he knows how to make things a little screwy, something that adds to J, and Dinos, sound... when he kept singing "you won't see me" in The Wagon in that weird deep voice while J hits the high, its like, lolwut but still kicks such ass. Perfect for J.
had to download and put this version on my iPod.
"There really is never a good time" says it all...what a fucking great song..."nothing much to Say" "an excuse is all we live for"
Mike Watt, dude can play bass.
Superb!!!!!!!
haha watt is such a heavy dude, he's so into it! him and j rule!
Fuck yeah
@12inchvertical depends on what songs. Both and all other bassists have made their contributions which I think sounds good. Have listened to some mike watt with j mascis and the fog bootlegs and there are much good stuff. I like this line up. Was lucky to see them once.
whaddaya mean hair aside? his hair is badass as fuck...kinda like this performance
@cerebralfish1 thanks for the tip, great song
who do you think supports Mascis' sound more - Barlow or Watt... I have to admit I've heard some great live recordings with Watt playing with J
@taxthecorn TELL ME ABOUT. fall/winter of my senior year ... driving around listening to Dinosaur Jr.
The Thumb from Whatever's Cool With Me is slightly better. Listen to it. Once you memorize the solo, you hum along to it.
first heard this on the whatevers cool with me Ep live version when i was a teen. this is much better live than the song on green mind in my opinion. mascis has invincible solos. on the EP he just off handed says, "we got a couple more for you" and then rips into this song.
@cerebralfish1 Have to admit I haven't though I know they were very much a musician's favourite... might have to check them out
Actually hair aside hes looking better then ever. I saw Dino a couple of weeks ago and he looks way thinner.
@12inchvertical Have you ever listened to any firehose?
@kjottoks the only iteration i've seen live is classic Dino and they are a wonderful live act too ... so no real winners and losers here...
Cool..J hardly ever uses the Blue Box.
@12inchvertical Check out the firehose albums "Ragin Full On" and "If'n" for some really good old funk punk. Watt is more featured with firehose. Dominant bass work. Check'm out! Guarantee you'll be entertained.
@Dhanijel1 In that case shame on them!
this song pretty strongly suggests that J enjoys a bong or two
J mascis probably hates hipsters lol
