Way to go!!! Of the six you purchased, two of them had faults in the board. One was a slight crack, and the other was this corrosion. What I learned is first replace belts and then, with a magnifying glass, really look at the board close for any faults. This is a great series, and has held my attention throughout. Thanks!
When you learn and share a lot of people watching learn too. I don’t know much about small electronics but I know more now than I did before watching your videos. Great work mate!
I realize that I am a little late to the game here being that this is a year old, but the resolution of this Walkman series absolutely made my day. God, I have got to get out of the house more often.
Great stuff. I love days like this when you get to spend all day tinkering with something and get it fixed. You tell your wife with a beaming smile and she just looks blankly back.
Brilliant!!!! You mastered this one! Finding a broken trace like that can be super hard! Well done mate! "I got bored of waiting for that UV solder mask paint to dry" - LOL! That was me too! I tried it a few times and personally I think its painful to get it to dry!!! You probably need to leave it exposed to UV for several hours I think.
Thanks so much Chris. I was so happy when I seen the corroded trace. Luckily the camera wasn't filming as the "YES" was loud.....very loud and repetitive. Cheers for the offer of help on this one. That UV mask needs a UV pen to cure, I just didn't realise until reading these comments. Hopefully next time I can use it like it is designed to be used :-)
A moment of pride can be worth more than any sense of monetary gain! Good on you Vince! glad you stuck through it for the learning experience and the boost in confidence! hope to see more success in the future videos! Keep it up!
Yay! So glad you got this fixed. It's not about the value, it's about seeing it work once more as a result of your own efforts (with some help from your YT friends too).
I just bought a WM-FX43 off of Ebay with the exact same symptoms as the one yours had in the original video. I've watched all three of your videos on this in one sitting, and 1. congratulations on your persistence and making all these videos and 2. I might give it a go myself one of these days. Or maybe you're willing to redo the challange and test what you've learnt.
Glad you got it 100% working. That broken track couldn't have been in a worse place than under the Dolby switch. I had an Aiwa back in the day. The Sony would've been a bit too rich for me as an impoverished late teenager/early twentysomething.
All i can say now is .CONGRATULATION!!!! 😁😁..you have done great job, and i fully understand you are so happy.. today i fixed gopro gimball and almost gived up, but then i ask myself..."what Vince will do???🤔"...i checked one more thing and i founded bad connection....so happy now as well😁😁... and wait for next episode
Congratulations Vince, those who succeed owe their success to perseverance because the most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. Louis Rossmann had better watch out!
I am proud you finally made it Mate! You learned the basics of fault finding in Electronics. Keep Ohm's law in mind and with a little more practice you will find it easy to read schematics. Sorry for the Bad writing, but my iPad wants to write german... 👍👌😍
Awesome! Really glad to see you got it working after all that. I'm also glad that my theory about the B+ line not getting to the play button turned out to be correct :-) My boss came by my desk yesterday and asked me what I was looking at when I had the schematic up on the screen, and I had to tell him it was a Walkman. Perhaps now I can send him a link to this video :-)
Great repair! I got here just wanting to see how to open one of these to replace a belt, but I had to see if you solved this problem and how so I watched the whole series 😅 let's hope mine isn't this stubborn 😂
Great to see that your perseverance has paid off! No more devil worship voices - in the words of Tangina (Zelda Rubenstein) from the film Poltergeist (kind of) "I have exorcised the demons, this Walkman is clean!" It's great to see you learning new things. You're never too old to learn!
YAY!!!! I am thrilled you repaired the Unit, Glad you found the feed "Track" that failed to change the voltage state to that IC, But I am even more so thrilled that you have learnt a sh't ton about Electronics, Wont be long and you may even one day get your hands dirty repairing devices relying on Quantum Mechanics.. ;) :D
You made me think about a small but annoying fault on my Sony deck... and yes, it's the autoreverse. Curiously, when the deck get heat it doesn't recognize the cassettes and sometimes it eats the tape. Too bad when you have to calibrate the tape you want to record on. Thanks for the tip.
Congrats! Glad you got it going. That break in the trace is in just the right place to be missed, up against a switch and right around that letter O. Also interested how it might have happened. There are traces far closer to the edge, if it was like rain getting past the switches and not close to any possibly leaking capacitors. Interesting. Also do you block links in comments? Just so I know I shouldn't include diagrams in my past comments :)
Thanks, I think a bit of fizzy drink or something got in and ran along the Switch and dripped straight down the edge. Strange how it worked it way through the protective layer, you would think it would just evaporate off. I don't personally block links but often RUclips do. If I see it in the spam section then I will pull it out of there if it isn't spam and is helpful to the comments :-)
Sometimes things that break cannot be replaced or fixed but I like this channel because you try not to give up on fixing things you like to try and get things working and if you don't you could always use it for spares and repairs but you don't give up and that's one thing I like about this channel of yours and this also motivates me to do stuff as well and it's quite good because and it gets me thinking about things and it gives me information about saying things I hope you read this if you do please let me know also if you haven't please visit my channel because them I did a couple repair videos on there but yeah keep on coming
You can install a switch in that trace, drill a hole on the case and put that switch there. Then, you can have this Walkman fully working with an additional function of playing BACKWARD.
My Mate VINCE it’s crazy first learning how to read schematics having no one to teach you.. I know firsthand there should be more videos on how to read simple and hard schematics but schematics help out a lot on repairing electronics which they’re trying to stop us from getting nowadays🤔😳😒 used to come on back on TVs Fridge stereos
That the best thing you can do Vince is keep that wal an for your self you may need it one day you never know about emergencies I have 3 Walkman’s my self 😊 thay all still work they are from 1990 😊
I bought my WM-FX43 way back in 1992. It was a wonderful player. Today, it still powers up, Radio works fine, but I put in a cassette and nothing. Do you think it is the belts?
Hello , thank you for the video. I want to ask , what is the difference with wm-fx 40 ? Just megabass or display ? Because shape is very similar. I have wm fx 40 is good ? Thank you from Turkey 🎵🙋♂️
Hello sir. Not related to this video, but to your other older video. How do you minimize the Screen Connect/android mirroring in windows? Everytime I connect my android phone to my windows 10 laptop, it's going to full screen without resize button.
Yeah, thanks for that. Embarrassingly I didn't know at the time. I thought it just cured!!!!! I do have a UV pen from the UV glue that I use so I will test this out next time :-) Thanks for letting me know.
Look out for an old Hameg Oscilloscope on ebay, they are very cheap and come with an inbuilt component tester. Very useful visual fault tracing tool. Edit: I can put you in touch with a guy giving one away for free if you like ... he's in Gloucestershire
Oh yeah, of course it does!!!! I thought it would just cure like quick drying glue. Next time I will use my UV light from the UV glue pen. Thanks for letting me know :-)
Hi. I receive Sony WM-EX2085 and it is the same situation. Forward plays correctly but rev plays backwards. Plus on display when press play I can see radio frequency. Should see tape sign. And also I don't know what is wrong with him.
its amazing how one little hidden trace can mess a function up well done vince for persevering
Way to go!!!

What I learned is first replace belts and then, with a magnifying glass, really look at the board close for any faults. This is a great series, and has held my attention throughout. Thanks!
Excellent, glad you liked them. Still have 2 to go so it will be interesting to see what faults these ones are hiding :-)
When you learn and share a lot of people watching learn too. I don’t know much about small electronics but I know more now than I did before watching your videos. Great work mate!
Thank you :-)
“Do you remember this?” Yes I do!!!! Let’s go!!!
I am in awe of your persistence and spirit! All hail Vince the Conquerer!
Well done Vince. What a result and what a learning curve. A proper fault find and fix that one.
Thank you :-)
For some reason Louis Rossmann was saying in my head that pp3v42 was not present. Nice fix Vince!
This wasn't any different than getting PPBus back whenever some twit cums on their macbook...
@@TestECull It's PPBusG3Hot ^^
I missed the ppbus, I get on the short pp3 bus now.
@@willproctor7301 We just need to get Vince his own Mr Clinton and then Vince'll be set for fixing anything!
The amount of effort put into this project is impressive !
It was like watching a tv series and finally finding out who the murderer was. Well done vince. Really enjoyed following that repair.
I love your dedication regardless in what you try to fix. Keep it up!

Brilliant, well done Vince, the excitement in your voice when you fix it is amazing lol .. keep it up.
Yay! So glad you got this fixed. It's not about the value, it's about seeing it work once more as a result of your own efforts (with some help from your YT friends too).

Congratulations Vince! can't believe you revisited this revisit and got it working! All that time for a tiny hidden trace!
Real Well done!!
Thanks mate :-)
Glad you got it 100% working. That broken track couldn't have been in a worse place than under the Dolby switch. I had an Aiwa back in the day. The Sony would've been a bit too rich for me as an impoverished late teenager/early twentysomething.
Truly a lovely ending to an awesome trilogy! I feel so happy for you! Cheers!
Thank you :-)
Vince, your enthusiasm is inspiring.......really made me smile :)
Congrats Vince! Your endurance is inspiring.
Well done mate, persistence is KEY.
THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE FROM THE AUDIENCE well done vince good to see you finally had a win with this walkman excellent work mate
cheers

Thanks James :-)
You say only £5 but look at what that £5 allowed you to learn and us to enjoy and also learn. Well done Vince

Thank you and well done for your fix as well. Perseverance paid off for both of us :-)
Nice work man!
Thanks Elliot :-) Got there eventually!!!!
This is a big Lesson for you.
Nice to see u got it to work.
Yesssss! Success at last. Well done mate. You Made my day.
Thank you. It took a while but eventually success came :-) Cheers for the help :-)
Fantastic fix, Vince! Very impressive troubleshooting!! So happy you got it running normal!
Thanks for the support Jim :-)
Well done and well spotted; such a small track break.
Congratulations Vince, those who succeed owe their success to perseverance because the most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. Louis Rossmann had better watch out!
You patience is out of this word !!!!
Really nice catch! You did it! Woah, that was really hidden, you really did the job of a true technician. Good work!
Well thank you for all the help you gave me :-)
Congratulations I have enjoyed the Walkman series
Excellent, so have I, still 2 more to go and then we have the rest of the CD Walkman series :-)
Awesome work and perseverance mate! Congratulations
Thanks :-)
I'm really happy that you fixed this
Thank you :-)
Break out the Kool Aid! You've gone from the Switch Killer to the Walkman Savior!!! Way to go Vince!!
Thank you my friend :-)
OMG OMG OMG, biting my nails for this one! Still haven't watched it, but hoping for the best!
Congraz Vince! Great job as always ^^
Good for you for not giving up!
Thank you :-)
You deserve a beer! Well done on persevering and tracing the fault. Have an extra beer for me as well. 😎🍺
Thank you. Well if you insist then it would be rude of me not too :-)
Well done!! You have more patience than me, would have been in the bin lol, well done again.
I am proud you finally made it Mate! You learned the basics of fault finding in Electronics. Keep Ohm's law in mind and with a little more practice you will find it easy to read schematics.

Thanks so much and thanks for the all the help you gave me in the last revisit video :-)
Never mind, I like helping people like you because you know what your brain is for...
Exzellent Channel! I Love it.
Nice find and fix I watched someone repair a Sony discman d9 that would not read cd,s after they changed every capacitor it worked fine.
Awesome! Really glad to see you got it working after all that. Way to go Vince!

Way to go, Vince! Reading schematics is a basic skill you will need to take you to the next level.
(Did Vince just level up? 😉)
Thanks, haha - I am going to watch some RUclips vids on them to try and understand them and then hopefully Vince can begin to level up :-)
Well done you got there in the end.
Wow that is so great :) good work. :) and you have learned so much, so as i too. :) Thank you.
Thanks :-)
Good job congratulations on getting it going 😀
Thank you so much :-)

Aww well done Vince. Kind regards. Paul.
Fabuloso!! que bueno que reparaste ese equipo. Saludos
everyday new video, I love this mate!
Good job, congrats!
Well done in finding the fault. For the UV stuff, you need a UV light to cure it or bright sunshine. UV light is quicker.
Thank you, next time I will use the UV pen on it to cure it. I didn't know while filming that it needed it....whoops :-)
great job vince
Well done !!
That the best thing you can do Vince is keep that wal an for your self you may need it one day you never know about emergencies I have 3 Walkman’s my self 😊 thay all still work they are from 1990 😊

"I think you are amazing, Chris." ...erm - Vince. ;-)
We will make a proper repairman out of you yet glad you got the bugger working
I knew you add it covered ..... the only real scary bit was your scissor control in the opening .. still job done ... great vids
Really good job. Big thumbs up :-D
That's a nice walk man actually
well done vince
AWESOME!!!!
Glad to see that I bet on right thing last time.
great video !!!!
Awesome !
Nice one!
Is that the original anti scratch film still on the LCD display?
Thanks, no, it really is just scratched up that bad that is looks like the original film :-)
Bravo !!!
i also think that your'e amazing Vince
Hello , thank you for the video. I want to ask , what is the difference with wm-fx 40 ? Just megabass or display ? Because shape is very similar.
I have wm fx 40 is good ?

Hello sir. Not related to this video, but to your other older video. How do you minimize the Screen Connect/android mirroring in windows? Everytime I connect my android phone to my windows 10 laptop, it's going to full screen without resize button.
That UV masking fluid only hardens when exposed to UV light. You need to either get a uv pen light or a UV light box to use it
Yeah, thanks for that. Embarrassingly I didn't know at the time. I thought it just cured!!!!! I do have a UV pen from the UV glue that I use so I will test this out next time :-) Thanks for letting me know.
You can leave it out in the sun for a while if no other UV light is available. I found halogen bulbs do a decent job of curing it too.
Great job
Look out for an old Hameg Oscilloscope on ebay, they are very cheap and come with an inbuilt component tester. Very useful visual fault tracing tool. Edit: I can put you in touch with a guy giving one away for free if you like ... he's in Gloucestershire
OK well done...... but does the clock work?
Haha, yes it does. Just checked this morning and it is keeping perfect time over the last 16 hours :-)
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Dont you need to apply UV light to the UV mask to make it set?
Oh yeah, of course it does!!!! I thought it would just cure like quick drying glue. Next time I will use my UV light from the UV glue pen. Thanks for letting me know :-)
Hi. I receive Sony WM-EX2085 and it is the same situation. Forward plays correctly but rev plays backwards. Plus on display when press play I can see radio frequency. Should see tape sign. And also I don't know what is wrong with him.
Uv dye needs uv light to cure. and its like solder mask. better than kapton tape
Ahahah finally it's work!
I never listen you so happy 😂😂
Haha, thank you :-)
LOL...just the title made me laugh :-)
If/When you list items you have fixed for sale on eBay, you should let us know!
How did you remove the hinge of the front?
Next another working Switch 👍
SWEEEEET FIX! The downside is that there is not gonna be a re-re-re-visit video.
7:20 "I think you are amazing !".
