    Love this movie. Karen Carpenter was and is THE BEST singer of all time. I cry when I hear some of her songs. But I read a phrase recently, that helps me and I know Karen would agree. "Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that's how I'll remember you all; if you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all."

    people who were enabling her, and pretending that nothing was wrong and telling her that she looked good, when she was obviously very, very sick. It was on an old Mike Douglas Show or one of those old talk shows in the 70's. He also tried to raise public awareness about Anorexia Nervosa after her death, imploring people to watch for the danger signs with loved ones, to be vigilant in getting them help to prevent another senseless tragedy.

    There's a great book chronicling the life of Karen Carpenter from the cradle to the grave. The book is entitled "Little Girl Blue".The wedding incident is covered in detail in the book I believe the author's name is Schmidt. A great read tho' I think he left a few important things out, I does kind of 'fill in the blanks' on a lot of what was speculation. It does go pretty deep into her romantic relationships, eating disorder, use of ipecac/synthroid, relationship with mother, things like that.

    0.20. Richard Carpenter did NOT fall down a flight of steps. In reality he passed out in his bathroom,fell and struck his head on the toilet. He was hospitalised with an injured eye and possibly a concussion. This is yet another "urban myth" created by this movie.

    The treatment of Karen's marriage is very clever here. Altho' I think a lot of it is wrong. I had read that Richard had a lot of control over what went into the scripts. Cynthia Gibbs has said so. Burris told Karen just a few days before the wedding that he had had a vasectomy and could not get her pregnant, which was devastating to Karen because she wanted a family above all else. Karen originally wanted to call the wedding off but it was Agnes (karen's mom) who demanded she go thru with it.

    Do you happen to know why he had a vasectomy or why Agnes insisted that she go through with the marriage? That was something I didn't know; but I DO remember my mother telling me that after Karen died that Richard was devastated (a lot of people think that he wasn't as upset as he should have been--but that was his SISTER; I think he would have been devastated), and that he'd tried to get Karen help. Publicly, on a talk show, he tried to get her to admit her illness and berated the (cont'd)

      Richard tried everything. She was so mad at him because Rich knew she still wasn't well. He told her to her face that he was saying what he did because he loved her. 3 ½ weeks later, or so, she passed away. Rich was right. She wasn't well - she only went to different anorexic behaviors like - Epicac syrup and thyroid medicine for a thyroid problem she didn't have, to speed up her metabolism and poisoned her heart to death. It just gave out and she most likely, had a heart attack.

    • @annajacob7981
      @annajacob7981 5 месяцев назад

      @@lvelez1999Richard tried everything? I think not. How on earth could they not understand that, while Karen's eating disorder had destructive physical manifestations, the root cause was psychological. She needed a psychotherapist who specialized in eating disorders. I don't think Karen ever went to see any type of therapist. Her death, to this day, is simply heartbreaking.

      Probably didn't want to get in Tom Burris' cross hairs. I think he was paid off by the Carpenters and there might be a condition neither side will discuss things, so it was dealt with in a roundish manner.

    The book appears to be highly regarded by many of those who were close - very close- to Karen like the Lefflers, Phil Ramone, his wife "Itchy", Karen's neighbors in New Haven and Downey, Herb Alpert, some of the musicians in the Carpenters, Olivia & Dionne. Richard didn't have any input on the material in the book but did not try to stop the book from publication. Personally, I think the book pretty much points the finger at the failed marriage and Agnes as the main sources of Karen's problems.

    How about a they make another Karen Carpenter movie , this time with the truth? Richard stood over this entire movie & bullied writers & producers to gloss over certain things. Richard needs to let the whole truth be told . Take the gag order off Karen's ex-Husband , let him tell his side of the story .

      You just want to drag her name through the mud. The movie is supposed to be a basic version of what happened. Not an in depth documentary. You people just love kicking people when they're down or dead. You're pathetic.

    • @roydidlock1867
      @roydidlock1867 5 лет назад +1

      Smok 2112. This movie is a fanciful version of what happened. Karen NEVER read "his chubby sister" in Billboard, Karen NEVER collapsed on stage in front of an audience. Richard Carpenter NEVER fell down a flight of stairs. The account of the collapse of Karen's marriage is a complete lie and worse yet .it was advertised as the "True" story of Karen Carpenter!. Ah well, never let the facts get in the way of a good yarn.
