At @ 11:47 man do i miss The Warner Brothers Western Stunt Show me and my brother rec the show on a tape recorder then when we got home we act it out aww you missed butch and the sundance kid stunt show that was in 1999
I admit your video is great with the mix of comedy and history added. Rolling Thunder i definitely remember riding it and i actually try to go to the park alot but you might be right about the cheasy names for rides
You are awesome, I don't know how I stumbled upon your page but happy I did. I rode rolling thunder when I was younger it was amazing. The sky ride also. 6 flags was so epic. I remember when the price with a coke can use to be 18 dollars as a kid.
It’s absolutely fascinating to have a 70s variety show on the park’s opening. I’ve watched bits of the Disney Space Mountain one too and just Oh my god A gold mine of both terrible and great
As someone who worked at Great America from 2008-15 throughout high school and college, I've always felt this wonderfully weird little park deserves a bit more attention in the theme park commentary space. The Entertainment Dept. at SFGAm puts a lot of effort into maintaining some sense of theming, and I think it's cool that the park has made efforts to preserve historically significant rides, most notably the Little Dipper. Six Flags is much more opaque about its commercial intentions than Disney is, but with the modern hilariously high cost of a Disney vacation, Six Flags is a theme park experience most Americans can afford and that alone merits discussion.
i’m not joking, you’re like my favorite coaster youtuber ever. the way you manage to mix serious fact with some of the best comedy on any coaster channel is so good. i need you to grow like now. thanks for coming to my ted talk
I was 15 and worked in an arcade there and my friends all over the place. The Giant Drop was new the year I worked. I was told Mr. Freeze was going to be the new one. They picked the drop :(
Great video. You earned my sub. Great America is my home park and southwest territory was always my favorite section growing up. Still is. I've been 11 times this season and I hate to say Viper is starting to get a little rough on empty trains. Hopefully they do something about it cause it really is a great ride.
I remember Southern Cross! The Marriott era was very focused on theming: period uniforms, live entertainment, even the dishes in restaurants. It's sad to see the park now in regard to the immersive detail of that era. Southern Cross was incredibly tall, and its interaction with The Tidal Wave is indescribable. I remember the sign teasing 'The Great Southwest'. That was exciting to imagine a major expansion of the park. I'm not exactly sure why it was removed, although SC had a lot of downtime due to high wind and weather. It was an amazing experience even if it was a trip to an empty lot and back. PS I'm enjoying the channel a lot! I grew up at Great America, I'm appreciating those segments.
Great Channel! You NEED More Subs! . . . . Also at: 6:28 WHAT THE F*CK [Proceeds to rant about a lot of weird stuff being WAY more acceptable back then and how creepy it is] But keep up with the content, i still love your channel and you do deserve all the support you get and more. Time is a funny thing. I was a teenager in the 90s and Southwest Territory is still sort of the new part of the park to me. Then and now it had this creepy sterile feeling to it like it hadn't been lived in, similar to how Universal Studios feels to me. And that's one reason I like it.
I used to live in gurnee. The village has a 125 ft height variance, so anything higher needs to get approval from the village. The last ride to require approval Was maxx force I think, but this rule has limited great America’s ability to compete with larger rides in other parks, sadly 😢. In 2005 the park was apparently supposed to get Kingda Ka, but because of this rule, and because it would be over 100 ft taller than sky trek tower, we got Hurricane Harbor instead. Anyways, I think the reason why there are also a lot of tunnels and “pits” on drops at great America is because of this 125 ft rule; it helps the park get away with adding an extra 20ft to the first drop. Update: the village must‘ve amended this rule in the past few years. It appears as though the restriction has been lifted to 200ft...in any case, this is partly why great America only added shorter rides like xflight, joker, Superman, in the 2000s/2010s. That, and because the park is landlocked by the Highway and Washington st.
To think we could’ve got the worlds tallest strata as opposed to the waterpark that has difficulty competing with great wolf is beyond me. Everyone always says we have one of the best if not the most well rounded line ups out there. That could’ve made us a destination park for sure and I feel as if we do compete with cedar point in our region of the country
Brandon Frazier I just wish great America could save up the money for a few years and get something to compete with Raging Bull. Nothing much, just a 200 foot drop with a few inversions, and at least 5,000 ft of track. I’d rather have that then be appeased with something an okay roller coaster
Steven Brown it is kind of crazy to think raging bull is over 20 years old and every addition since then hasn’t came close in height or length really. Call me crazy but if Six flags ever goes bankrupt again I wanna see them sell sfgam to cedar fair I think the park would benefit so much more as apart of their chain and they would push to have it be like their top tier parks Carowinds, kings island and so on
damn i was so young when they took trailblazer down i didnt even know it had a name, was very fortunate to get a handful of rides on it before it closed, it was always a walk on
I remember being on Rolling Thunder. It had these checkpoints to insure you weren’t going to fast and were directed back to the middle of the course. Railings on both sides that came together. It always made me feel like what a pinball feels as it’s rocking back and forth.
I grew up with this park and southwest territory is a staple of spending the day there in the summer. It's hot, it's sunny, there is very little shade, and even if the immersive experience is tainted by corporatism, that part of the park is a must to a well rounded day at six flags GA. And the viper still rocks even if she's getting old. Especially at night. And raging bull will never get old until roller coasters evolve into their next state of being. :-). Thanks for shedding some light on the southwest territory and the upload brother.
The park has changed. I dislike that they have only 1 theater now. And when I was a kid I thought the food was great, but now I don't care for it. Strutters is the only good restaurant.
My favorite section of the park... I worked in the maintenance dept. in 2012-2014. Made me sad to see when themed items got beyond usable, they'd just get tossed and the space would be left empty, or get something off theme put in it's place. It seemed like at a certain point they decided to just let the theming go. I guess they've done a little in the past few years to "try" and be smart with the themes, but it's mostly just paint and ride names. Oh well, they had a cool thing going for awhile I guess! I also loved the park music in that section 😉 Sadly when I was there a lot of the park speakers in the queue lines didn't work anymore (Giant Drop was really noticeable), and I wasn't allowed to do anything to try and and fix it. It's thought that the speaker lines underground may have been damaged at some point, but I'll never know for sure...
The Southwest Territory is easily my favorite area of the park. I appreciate the amount of theming that’s there. Pretty impressive considering it’s a Six Flags Park. I hope they invest in the area in the future with more southwest themed rides. “What’s up glock?” 🤣. Great video. 🙌
My very first time going to Great America I was 7 years old. I told my dad for months that I wanted to ride American Eagle. He measured my height on my birthday and I was tall enough to ride. As part of my birthday present, he bought us tickets to go to Six Flags just me and him. We got there and I completely chickened out and would not go on any roller coasters. I could tell that my dad was very frustrated and disappointed. At the end of the night he told me that we were going to go on at least one roller coaster whether I liked it or not LOL. We got in line for Rolling Thunder. After only a few minutes, my Dad decided that the line was toi long and we left. A few months later, my parents separated and eventually divorced and I would only see my dad every other weekend for the next several years. I spent a lot of my childhood convinced that I was afraid of roller coasters so we never did ride on a big roller coaster together the dolls that I realize I love roller coasters he's too old to enjoy them. It is actually one of my biggest regrets and I think about it every time somebody mentions Rolling Thunder.
This video. This video so much! Viper was my first adult coaster. I remember being caught in the rain and sitting, watching a mariachi band under an overhang in the missionary building. Def remember Trailblazer and the Stunt show with the geyser chair. Took pictures with the actors following the show 😆. And loved Crazy Buffalo Saloon with the rubber jail cell and the Lightning and Thunder light and sound effects. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Yes!! Viper was my first adult coaster too. I love seeing those stories, thank you for sharing them and thank you for watching! Lame tidbit here, but I also loved it when there was an ad for rollercoaster tycoon 2 at Viper’s exit. I was definitely playing as soon as I got home from the park.
Never knew about the Southern Cross. Would have loved if they kept that. This was my first Six Flags park, so I was kind of disappointed when there was very little theming at any of the others. I wish Six Flags would take theming and naming coasters a bit more seriously. And also, extreme sports and flying are not themes. Also, we need more theme songs for rides.
Southern Cross had operational issues due to its height and wind. The wind alarm would often shut down the ride. In the years it was in the park, I never rode it, for it was not operating during those visits. To be fair, back then I would get to Marriott’s once per season.
Zero Credits Remaining Southwest_Territory_Amphitheater in 1999 butch cassidy and the sundance kid stunt show 1999 was there 1 year then they had the the great russian circus 2000 - 2006
I love Southwest Territory! I'm sad they redid the Wild Buffalo Saloon. I remember riding Viper when it first came out. My favorite six flags land for sure.
I’m from southern Wisconsin and yeah, I’ve had tons of memories at Great America. Viper got me hooked on coasters so it’s very important to me. Raging Bull is always a great time. I like Maxx Force and Goliath the most, but Raging Bull is VERY close behind them.
The coaster they got me in the coasters was American eagle hope they never get rid of it i’ve only been going to Great America for the coasters for the last three years and has been going for five years and I don’t wanna get my age I’m in tween 10 and 15
I love American Eagle too and I would be heartbroken to see it go.....but there is no denying that the coaster has seen far better days as the coaster is not allowed to race anymore due to the aging structure and some people are complaining that it’s become too rough resulting in declining ridership. It’s been heavily rumored for a while that the clock is ticking for American Eagle and RMC might possibly turn it into one of their I Box conversions. RMC is cool and their coasters are all outstanding and Eagle as a hybrid would be cool. But I still like it as a woodie. But something needs to be done soon as the coaster is not in the best of shape right now.
TigerRocks503 Aka: Chase I agree no but knowing six flags they would not do a project that big I think they would get rid of it feels half of it with the water park in the other half with a smaller roller coaster unfortunately that’s the only thing I can see if they ever did do an RMC I would be very happy but they were so not do it
As far as Southwest Territory - definitely still has a Six Flags vibe to it but absolutely my favorite area of the park. Unfortunately didn’t ride giant drop tho ://
Thanks for the video! I have a whole lot of nostalgia for Great America and particularly the Southwest Territory, due in large part to the Batman stunt show in the amphitheater. I was obsessed with Batman as a kid (I still am) and the show at the amphitheater is one of my earliest memories of the park. Of course, I remember the theming for Batman The Ride too, and standing in a very long line to ride it. I think the part has lost some of the magic they had around that time. Then again, maybe it was just magic to me because I was a kid. I still love the Demon and of course the Raging Bull, but the things I loved about this part of the park as a kid are gone now. But, your video helped me relive some of those memories, so thank you!
This is just my idea but if Six Flags really did get a clone of West coast racers, they could put it in the southwest territory and theme it to a horse race. I'm not sure what the cars would look like but all you'd really have to do is just keep the theme the same throughout the ride.
You mentioned like my favorite flat ride ever Terror Twister Two and Peppermint Sqirl. I may or may have not gotten 105 rides on it in only six visits to the park. Also amazing content as always!
Not to discredit anything in the video but Raging Bull has a storyline for the area of SWT as it was the old mission building and when the bull arrived they fled and built the current one that stands today. Also GD has another prop (junk) cage that's in the middle of the queue. And lastly I noticed that you didnt mention the viper preshow area that used to exist and is all boarded up.
I appreciate feedback, those are all valid points! I’ll definitely include the raging bull info when I inevitably make a video solely on that ride. It’s been a long time since I stood in the giant drop queue 😅
Best Video Thus far! Home Park as well - I remember being so young during rolling thunder times I thought I had only dreamt it but I remember how loud it was. Also waiting in queue for Viper like I was on the surface of the sun ☀️ 🐍
Rolling Thunder rocked as hard as the Metal they played on Chubasco on Fright Nights. Not really - Imagine a flume without water, limited restraints added to the sensation of recklessness. It was slow & janky, which explains why Cheddar Point added now legendary Disaster THEMING to theirs. Hey...didn't people DIE on that covered wagon thing? Stop COVERING it up! Tanks for the Marriott memories cuz mine are fading like the paint on the Eagle.
You know what’s up then :o I heard about Rolling Thunder and Tidal Wave from my parents, so they were these mysterious coasters before all this crazy internet stuff. It made them seem like legends for years. Even if it’s trash, I can’t shake the feeling that I have to ride Alpine Bobsled. I heard the same trailblazer rumor somewhere. 😱 Thank you for the comment!
As of me writing this comment you have 26 views on this video and you deserve a 1000 more. I am not a very good youtuber but somehow my videos have more views than you and that is not right. If I could give my views to you I would do it because you make great content!
I really don’t care for theming that much. If it’s immersive, it’s pretty awesome. But when I’m in SWT I don’t feel like I’m in the sw. Too many ads. In fact, I kinda think nice greenery works better with ads than SWT does. I’d love if trailblazer was still around though. Something that you mentioned that I never thought about was that nothing has been added since the 90’s. It’s weird to think SWT has not progressed in 20+ years when Mardi Gras and it’s connection to yankee harbor seems to have been completely revamped within the last 10 years.
You are awesome, I don't know how I stumbled upon your page but happy I did. I rode rolling thunder when I was younger it was amazing. The sky ride also. 6 flags was so epic. I remember when the price with a coke can use to be 18 dollars as a kid.

I love your content. I remember a loony tunes super Nintendo game with a level that looked exactly like sw territory and as a kid that was great.
I admit your video is great with the mix of comedy and history added. Rolling Thunder i definitely remember riding it and i actually try to go to the park alot but you might be right about the cheasy names for rides
The ampatheater also hosted the summer concert series that the park did.
They used to host local bands at the stage in the mission

7:04 is the best part of this videp
Why don't you have more subs? This is quality content that definitely deserves more views in my opinion.
Agreed! He should have all the subs!
ikr i just subbed as soon as i came across his vids , plus he mostly taljs about my home great America in gurnee
I have said this since the beginning. More subs and there are no ads...🤷🏼♀️
I was 15 and worked in an arcade there and my friends all over the place. The Giant Drop was new the year I worked. I was told Mr. Freeze was going to be the new one. They picked the drop :(
It's all DC now, I liked it better with Looney Toons as a kid but times change.
the south west territories was a fantastic addition.
On trail blazer there were gaps in the bar that you could slip out of and "surf" the wagon then slip back in before the operator would see!
Great video. You earned my sub. Great America is my home park and southwest territory was always my favorite section growing up. Still is. six flags great america junkie tuning in :)))
I guess I'm just watching all of your videos tonight damn
This is top tier coaster thoosie content
My special home park ❤️
I worked there from 1990-1992, and again in 2003.
Fun fact: JBs was once part of a unit with Raging Bull
Love to see a video on my home park!
Same :)
Huh. Wonder why never seen your stuff before. Quality this was
I like every thing in the southwest area of six flags
Wait...Rolling Thunder was a relocated coaster??? You just blew my mind!

Nice video. Well done
I used to live in gurnee. The village has a 125 ft height variance, so anything higher needs to get approval from the village.

Brandon Frazier I’d be open to seeing that haha
I like the junk cages 😂i think the theming is solid and any complains are unnecessary
I lived through all these years. I was a patron since the park opened in 1976. It's definitely nastalgia.
damn i was so young when they took trailblazer down i didnt even know it had a name, was very fortunate to get a handful of rides on it before it closed, it was always a walk on
I remember being on Rolling Thunder. It had these checkpoints to insure you weren’t going to fast and were directed back to the middle of the course. Railings on both sides that came together. It always made me feel like what a pinball feels as it’s rocking back and forth.

You are cool and to be honest you opened me up to other ways of life. Top notch content bro
That’s awesome, thank you so much!
In 2000 they had the great Russian circus
Not gonna lie. I laughed at the Luna Park joke… a lot

Sfgam is my home park and I never even knew trailblazer was a ride there. I’ll have to look for that old queue the next time I go.
In 2014 the operators console was still in there! Pretty cool to see

Lmaooo great editing and vid man 🤣very informative and entertaining!
Southwest Territory at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IIIinois USA 🇺🇸 Look Cool part of the Park.
Raven Symoné At Six Flags Great America Chicago 2009 that was the last time they had some thing
I mis the Trailblazer
I like how you put Super Mario 64 and Kalimari Desert music from Mario Kart 64
Never knew about the Southern Cross. Would have loved if they kept that. This was my first Six Flags park, so I was kind of disappointed when there was very little theming at any of the others. CZsWorld did you know in county fair six flags where Scenic Railway next door Funnel Cake Foundry there where they had Eagles Flight / Delta Flyer
All new GOLIATH😂😂
I still remember opening day 2007 when I looked at the park map for the first time and saw Trailblazer was gone. Sad day indeed.
Me when Six Flags has theming:
The jail cell is not in JB's anymore. F.
They actually put it in the Six Saints Cemetery for Fright Fest in 2019 and you could still go in it.

Also I like the coaster studios reference

As far as Southwest Territory - definitely still has a Six Flags vibe to it but absolutely my favorite area of the park. Unfortunately didn’t ride giant drop tho ://
Agreed. The first amphitheater shows were extremely good for six flags tho! now the section is losing charm, but it’s still there in bits and pieces.
I went on it last year. I am not fond of giant drop rides, but it was a nice experience
Gerudo valley music fits so well
Not to discredit anything in the video but Raging Bull has a storyline for the area of SWT as it was the old mission building and when the bull arrived they fled and built the current one that stands today.
6:28 I'm dying laughing
raging bull is my favorite ride ever!
Foghorn Leghorn: The Confederate Traitor
Me over here waiting for the history video on demon
I've ridden Rolling Thunder.
Do a video on the history of American eagle
‘Get along little doggies’
Negative the jail is now gone from jb
Make another six flags video it's impossible for me to get tired of them
Did you know that the bbq place has an organ
I actually didn’t notice it was still there! Super cool.
Ya it was there last time I went but it was playing really quiet
Rolling Thunder rocked as hard as the Metal they played on Chubasco on Fright Nights. Not really - Imagine a flume without water, limited restraints added to the sensation of recklessness. It was slow & janky, which explains why Cheddar Point added now legendary Disaster THEMING to theirs. Hey...didn't people DIE on that covered wagon thing? Stop COVERING it up! Tanks for the Marriott memories cuz mine are fading like the paint on the Eagle.
You know what’s up then :o
I heard about Rolling Thunder and Tidal Wave from my parents, so they were these mysterious coasters before all this crazy internet stuff. It made them seem like legends for years. Even if it’s trash, I can’t shake the feeling that I have to ride Alpine Bobsled.
I heard the same trailblazer rumor somewhere. 😱
Thank you for the comment!
I spy... some quality comedy.
I honestly wish that the other sections of Sfgam were themed like southwest territory. ST just has such a charm to it that the other sections lack.
i wish sfmm had this level of theming :/
But hey, ghost town at Knotts looks good!
As of me writing this comment you have 26 views on this video and you deserve a 1000 more. I am not a very good youtuber but somehow my videos have more views than you and that is not right. If I could give my views to you I would do it because you make great content!
*theming.*
🤤
LOL
You are awesome, I don't know how I stumbled upon your page but happy I did. I rode rolling thunder when I was younger it was amazing. The sky ride also. 6 flags was so epic. I remember when the price with a coke can use to be 18 dollars as a kid.
