To be honest the look of this car is amazing. I love the compact, perfect proportions, the blocky dashboard, the cute little engine and everything. If a carmaker tried to make cars in this style but with modern engines and better safety I would be all over it.
I own one of these in blue, it looks pretty spectacular (mine has a custom interior based on the original with blue suede and vinyl and louvres on the rear window and stuff) we added bigger wheels and some really good tires to it and it corners pretty well now, I wouldn't even say it's super slow with 50bhp, the thing only weighs 650 kilos, so it gets off the line pretty fast, it's really a blast to drive
@@seanpirrie5748 engine is usually bulletproof, but especially look for rust on the floor in the footwells/rear quarter panels. Also make sure it shifts well and that it has the spare wheel (without it it doesnt handle well lol)
hussguy1990 yeah that's understandable I live in the Netherlands and there hasn't been a need for salt on the roads for a few years and I hope this winter won't be any different
Bart Van Riel that sounds wonderful, they almost have a quota here I've seen literally 20 pound piles on a snow free street..... but I drive a mini Cooper s now I hope it doesn't rust out lol.
I had the model before this one the fronte LC10W, as my first car, it had a 3 cylinder 2 stroke 356cc (!) Engine in it, great fun to drive , an so low to the ground you felt like you were speeding everywhere.... I got 4 teenagers , incl driver in it and did a trip on the open road 100kph , did it, but only just......
i want that car. I'll make it the most unboring car in the world. it's already practically a 911. just give it a turbo flat 6 and boom. you have yourself a sleeper.

Fun fact: it's designed by GIUGIARO. And you can see it too, looks cool.
I remember having lifts to work in one of these in my first job. Great fun, it had lots of character. Wringing every last horsepower out of the engine was great fun, it was a willing and buzzy unit. Everything is so dinky and delicate on them. Love it!
A friend of mine used to have one, many years ago.. i remember how fun it was, although very old and with rusty holes on the floor (you could see the road underneath). I could barely fit in there, and generally it felt so insecure, but when we got it in random empty fields just to drift it, it was like being in a huge RC toy. Really fun
This car in Japan had been sold under the name Cervo. I am very pleased to be able to see the Cervo which is maintained very beautifully in the 21st century.
There are still many in Japan. strangely only one Japanese video is found when I search "Suzuki cervo" despite there being many videos about it, and one has more views than this one, 500K + 🤷
My mum had one of these in her 20's. She told me once while driving it in the pouring rain another driver pulls out of junction without looking, she slams on the brakes, all wheels look up, car spins a whole 360! Simply selects first and carries on. What a machine!!
I live in New Zealand where 40 of these great little cars were imported to, and OWN a "Full Spec" CX-G which is NUMBER 27 off the production line. Unlike England, Australia, Iceland and The Netherlands, the 40 cars imported into New Zealand were the same as the JDM cars, and as such, retained the same frontal treatment. Instead of Square Headlights and the indicators mounted in the grill, the New Zealand cars had round headlights, the indicators wee mounted under the front bumper, and where the indicators were mounted in the Wizz Kid, there were a set of spot/driving lights. The car I own also differs in the interior trim, as, being a "Cross-Over" car, it has Tombstone style front seats, trimmed in a red and black hounds tooth design, and where you sit is made of cloth rather than Vynle? As these cars were prone to rust, and not designed to last any great length of time, and given the low production number on my car, it's Highly Possible that I own the earliest surviving example anywhere worldwide? The car is in completely original, un restored condition, with a Genuine 72,000 kilometers on it. I drive it most days, and it always puts a smile on my face. As to it's value, who knows?
I live in New Zealand, and two weeks ago, I bought an Immaculate 63,000ks (39,000 Mile) example of one of these cars. It's slightly different in the front body trim, with Round Headlights, and Spotlights where the Indicators are in the front of this car, but mechanically it's identical. Contrary to what the road tester says here, it handles remarkably well, in that it can be chucked into a corner, where it hangs on like it's on rails. The most I have gotten mine to do is lift the inside rear wheel, but other than that. it's great fun, in an under powered light weight small car can be. To hear the prices they are fetching excites me, as I paid the equivilent of around two and a half thousand pounds for mine, and it's in amazing order for a 39 year old motor car. Putting a Hayabusa motor in it has crossed my mind, but it's to nice and to rare to butcher it in such a way.
- So Much Power!!! - With the 1 side view mirror for the weight reduction and aerodynamism for the Power!!! - It's a GX because it's an Xtreme GT!!! Like a 911 B)
I had one of these and it was the most fun i have ever had in a car !!!.seriously i used to go everywhere in it. In the snow it was the only car i have ever owned that overtakes Landrovers when they are stuck in knee high snow.I drove it up to Scothland non stop 300 miles and on the way back coming down a hill in the Shap it topped out at nearly 100 mph.i loved this car until one day it wouldn't stop at a cross road and i hit another car.it was written off and then repaired but still had a ripple in the roof from the impact.oh cars in those days were so much fun.it didn't kill me though.and yes i am still alive.
my geo metro /Suzuki swift had same 12 on it I put 14 inch 60's on made huge difference I have a 1.2 liter Suzuki now but its 100 hp and weights 400 lbs
Had 3 of these back in the early 90's, great fun, one ate rear driveshafts for some reason, did good handbrake turns, One was that rusty brown colour & we called it the "crabber" because it crabbed (wheels not in alignment) were going rusty back then though. Bloody excellent cars though.
I remember this one. It was cheap and very well received by the automotive press at the time. It rusted like hell, but I really liked it. Standard MW radio for no money. Gauges, rpm counter, rear engine, wow. Cheap! And Japanese (so reliable). Don't crash it, because you will die. And don't go into modern day towns because of exhaust emissions. And oh, 12 inch tyres, good luck finding them.
Looks like a neat little car I've never heard of... Id LOVE to see one hopped up and done right. Even if its not a screamer (or even a real performer by any standard) its cool looking and unique (maybe? We certainly never got them in the USDM). What a cool little car.
I had one of these for 6 years rescued it from a scrap yard and only had to have 1,000 patches welded in to get it on the road. Only issue if you didn't push the gear stick down enough when selecting reverse it jammed the selector between gears so you had to get out unbolt the plate on to of gearbox and stir about with a big screwdriver to unjam it. Another odd thing when changing the canbelt I noticed the camshaft pulley had 2 marks on it. So thought lets see what the other mark does and it improved performance so why they had these 2 setting I don't know.
Such a cool little car. I know this as the Cervo so when I saw Whizzkid I was curious. I had never heard of that name on the car. I'd love to see more kei car reviews!
Interesting car indeed. The question is though, where would the shopping go as there doesn't look to be much room in the front compartment where the spare wheel is. Okay the back seat wouldn't be an issue if there is just two people in the front. But although the car is unique. Its not that practical for chores.
cool...........I remember my aunt had a RWD tercel in the Caribbean. She drove that car at 100% all the time on bald tires. My fist experience in a drifting drive along.

I've had one of these for years... Just finished putting a cappuccino F6a 3cyl turbo in the back and some wider wheels, scary little bugger now :)
Would love to see a video of that angry little puppy!

this has become the new top gear and im loving it!!

+Alex Kersten keep them videos coming. Great work yet again.
but this new "top gear" won't destroy any caravan ....
You never know lol
You've got some serious talent, I just watched a seven minute video on a Suzuki. I don't know whether to be pissed off or impressed lol
I kind of like the style of it though
Still better than a Prius!
This is fucking phenomenal!

I own a non rusted mx5, I'm not in the UK though, probably karma for driving on the wrong side
Bart Van Riel well I used to own a rusted mx5, and I fully blame that on living in Canada lol.

My wife had one of these back in the 90's and misses it so much she gets tearie eyed every time we see the one that lives locally to us.

I was wondering how come this car has so much personality for an 80s Japanese car !
Understeering into oncoming traffic. Part of the charm.

The lines are great. This thing is super square yet someway the corners drip off the car. I just like it a bunch.
this little car has more character than every supercar that will be released this year combined
I wonder how many people thought Alex was constipated when he passed by, but THEY DONT KNOW THE POOOOOWERR IT HAS!
