    What is presented in this video was also presented in my high school textbook and a (little bit extra), these are some things that are known for more that half of a century ago but Mr. WiseGuy here has made a major breakthrough on RUclips solving a conflict more complex than his entire so called high level understanding of science as a whole, just like that ... over the night.

    how about the space between two light sources facing each other say 1 light year apart one is red the other blue both lights are turned on at the same time would they meet after 6 months and the resulting purple light travel at twice the speed in opposition directions

    Theory question: When in dream something happened like why body movement begin to move slower or heavy so am i doing fast movement as reverse effect? But when in dream a body move fast the body are like the wind it self weightless? So do i do the same thing in dream like E=mc2 ?

    so to go into the future would you have to go a negative speed? (which is impossible)
    or would a negative speed be a speed relative to our universe?

    From 6:27-7:10 the clip is, in fact, referring to the equation E=mc², where m=m∘/√(1- v²/c²) and `m∘` is the REST mass. From 7:12 onwards the clip refers to the equation E=m∘c².

    It's great that you caught onto that, most people don't. This is very similar to what is known as the "twin paradox." What happens is that the clocks on the ground maintain an inertial reference frame at all time, whereas the planes do not. The planes have to jump inertial reference frames in order to turn around and come back. When this is taken into account, the math works out so that the clocks on the planes will be behind those on the ground. If you want I could message you with more details

    @LeconsdAnalyse That's fair enough, but that doesn't explain what the physical properties of the observer has to do with the thing it's observing. I thought it was just about the time the light from the subject takes to reach the observer, and the perceived distance between two objects as seen from the position of the observer. In what way does the physical mass of the observer affect the subject?

    @LeconsdAnalyse Why does it need to be massive and capable of measuring distance and time? Surely the principle is about the distance between the event and the 'observer' as represented by the time taken for light from one to reach the other, not about the observer's ability to perceive that light. So what I'm asking is this: Why is the light from an event being treated as if it were the event itself?

    What if you're moving around in a circle... so you're not exactly travelling at a distance through space, you're just spinning around... does time go slower for you then?

      yes it will. speed is not a vector so it does not requires direction.

    I don't understand. This video says if you travel though space your progress though time slows down but in the video about time dilation it said clocks slow down in moving vessels. That sounds like a contradiction to me because if traveling slows down your progress in time your clock would go faster relative to someone who is stationary (=maximum speed through time).
    And do you become flat if you go at the speed of light?

    So if the closer to light speed you get the more you slow down in other perspectives of time how come the neutrinos that beat the speed lomit at LHC didnt arrive in italy before they were fired? Are neutrinos massive particles?

    If it were NON-MASSIVE than it wouldn`t be able to `carry` a clock (or, other timing mechanism) and ruler (or, other length measuring mechanism). It must be capable of measuring length & time because at relativistic speeds (v/c~1) massive objects distort spacetime.
    Often in textbook examples LIGHT is used to communicate information to the `observer(s)`.

    Just as if you get closer to the center of the earth, time would speed up, relative to earth time. Furthermore, E=mc/2 is not an equation that explains nuclear energy, it is an equation which explains the nature of Energy. That energy is equal to at rest mass, and the speed of light, meaning it takes all 4 known types of energy, solids, liquids, gases, and plasmas, and can change from one form to another. Continued.

    @LeconsdAnalyse : Help ! What is "rest" mass is immobility cannot be defined because there is no absolute reference in space ? Does it mean thant anything which is in a galilean framework is "at rest" ??? An at rest relatively to what ?

    The dots will not expand with the surface of the balloon because the forces that hold the dot together are locally stronger than the force that is expanding the balloon.
    Also, we see galaxies as they used to be (much closer, younger and slower).

    Can someone answer this question for me? If light travel in speed of light through the space, according to explanation at 4:15, does it mean that light will reach to our eye in no time? Which also mean all the light that reach to our eye is the same as when the light is emitted?

    so when they flew the atomic clocks around the planet, time dilation meant the clock on board fell behind the clock on the ground. But from the perspective of the pilots, isn't it the clocks on the ground that run slow? when they returned, how is it that they saw the other clocks ahead?

    haha, yes.
    once in 7th grade (years ago) my science teacher told us about the "if you travel faster than light, you can travel back in time". She used this weird sentence which is similar to the yesterday's today's tomorrow play except in her case it was so confusing you didn't understand but this video kind of explains it a bit better.

    The `observer` (any object m₀>0) must be capable of measuring time and length. The mass of the `observer` does NOT affect the `subject`. But, the `subject` moving at relativistic speed DOES affect spacetime.

    so, ASSUMING you COULD get a car to go 100% the speed of light(assuming) and turn on the head lights, the head lights would still race away at the speed of light? or would they not turn on or not go anywhere? I know that Einstein has said that light is CONSTANT relative to ALL spectators. (even one literally going 100% the speed of light? if it was hypothetically possible?)

    @FordPrefect23 In the E=mc^2 formula, Einstein's m is the relativistic mass. In your formula, m is the rest mass. Also, in E=mc^2, E is the sum of the kinetic energy and the rest energy. So it's actually okay to write it as such, so long as you remember that m is not the rest mass here, since the relativistic mass is velocity dependent. Though I will agree with you that most people do not realize this or note this.

    will you give your source for this assertion? I have read lots of conflicting information. I have heard some major leaguers say you will indeed travel backwards in time. Neil degrasse tyson said this. ( im fairly sure)

    Hello. I just checked out the word `massive` in the dictionary. I used the word incorrectly, and I apologize. Its meaning is not what i had in mind. I thought the word meant `possesses mass`. Please read the words `massive` and `non-massive` wherever i used them to mean `possesses mass` and `lacks mass`, respectively.

    You seem to know a lot about this. So I has question. Would a commercial airline pilot age less than a normal person? Since they are moving through space more often than a normal person I would think it's true but I'm not quite sure.

    Continue* Time as a long line with you in the middle ( Present ), the forward edge of the line is the future and the ede behind you is the Past/History and you are travelling forward on that line. The singularitys gravity is so high that it makes the line ( Time ) do a loop, and since you are following the line which is a loop now you can come back to the Time you went first, this Time looping is called A Closed Time-like Curve.

    Your answer happens to be at 4:30. We cannot surpass time. However if I travel 60mph down a highway for a 2hour drive I would have traveled 120 miles but if i traveled at 120mph it would only take me 1 hour. [2:1 vs. 1:2] faster you travel less time is utilized

    @TaiFerret The clock is moving too. If you're on the ship with the clock, the clock ticks away normally to you, but for another person on another ship going slower than you, his clock is moving faster (which is normal for him), but to you, the clock is moving slower. Your mass would become infinite if you moved at the speed of light, but we'd never know if the object in motion would be flat because no matter can travel at the speed of light.

    err. yeah, sorry your right.
    the equation is for the relative motion of some object w in some other objects frame of reference v. with w' being the "percieved motion in refrence frame v of object w" and w and v being the motion of each object in there respective frames.
    hit wikipedias webpage on special relativity for the nitty gritty (and the simplified form of this equation which shows only a single reference frame).

    Katsuhisa, I will be doing a video which will show how time slows down the further you get from the surface of the earth, but it won't be for awhile, I have many videos to produce about things which are much more important first. And by the way, if time dilation were the cause, then the atomic clocks aboard the GPS satellites wouldn't register time slowing down because they are stationary relative to the earth, therefore no time dilation can occur with respect to the surface of the earth.

    I have never seen the theory of relativity illustrated this well. I admit I believed it was true while not fully understanding it until now. Actually, I realize, only after typing that last sentence, that I did understand it, only lacked the translation of it into the analog of everyday "plain language". I have very little knowledge of math, but am adept at logical reasoning, and don't generally regard myself as understanding something unless I can communicate it accuratley with logic alone.

    5:43 - 6:15. This is what I don't understand. Why is the time and place an event occurs dependent on an observer, and why by sight alone? The only reason an observer would see two events close to each other, while one is quite close to the observer and one is far away, is because our vision is essentially two-dimensional. Why is the timing dependant on an observer? Surely he should take the exact timing of an event as the distance (between himself and it) divided by the speed of light?

    ok, here's what i don't understand: it is said in he documentary that the effects are not noticeable for humans because we don't travel close enough to the speed of light; but if speed is relative, then what inertial frame are you using to make this statement? who says that e.g. the entire universe isn't traveling at near-light speed? :S did i completely miss the point? :P

    If motion effects length and time, doesn't that mean time is a direction? It would make sense if time is granted by the next dimension up. This may also mean that a kind of free will would be granted by the second dimension up. The 3rd dimension likely acts like time to a 2-dimensional universe, and free will (if life is possible there) for the first dimension.

    Okay, so to use the analogy of twins and one being in a spacecraft traveling fast, coming home to his "stationary" sibling who is now old, while the traveler is younger...
    If everything is relative (except light) and this person is cruising around at constant speed, wouldn't he age normally, since to him, all things are stationary?

    In University (early 80's) I had the good fortune to travel into an alternate Universe! It took weeks to even realize it. The only 2 things that didn't match OUR Universe was that pepperoni was not offered as a pizza topping and there was no New Zealand! Other than that everything else was exactly the same...

    My advice would be to practise as much as possible with the aspects you struggle with, whilst receiving help from as many different sources as possible (although not all at the same time!) This will enable you to develop your own, throrough understanding of these concepts. Combine this with your passion for astronomy/ physics, and you should be good to go :)

    to go 'into the future' you only have to wait for it.
    if you mean you want to experience LESS time then others (relatively) then you simply travel faster.
    if you want to go into the past you must travel faster then the speed of light...though that requires more then an infinite amount of energy to do.

    Due to the lagging behind of Wormhole A because of the Time Dilation you can enter Wormhole B ( 2010 ) and you exit the Wormhole subjected to Time Dilation, Wormhole A ( 2005) . You have now travelled between to places in Time, and you are now 5 years into the Past, if you now go in trough Wormhole A (2005) and exit Wormhole B (2010) you have now travelled 5 years into the future.

    At the geneve partical accelarator showed, when the proton particles collided the very tiny building blocks of matter came out with much more speed than the speed of light!!

    I think you can simply make conclusion from picture in video. There is velocity tensor which holds U^2 = -c^2 (see en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/Special_relativity#Velocity_and_acceleration_in_4D) it is this hypotenuse on picture. So you can just turn it around to travel trough time backward, but space part of the tensor is still less than c.

    No, as a whole they see it move as fast as it should. However, if the stationary ship would look closely at the people and other stuff inside the moving ship, they would seem to move slower ie. time for them is moving slower.

    Imagine that you put a little bit of air in a balloon (universe), so that it is barely inflated, and place two dots(galaxies) on the surface of the balloon. Now those dots can move along the surface of the balloon up to their "speed limit" but no faster. Now if you also inflate the balloon while the dots are moving at or near their speed limit their distance from each other can potentially increase faster than their speed limit (which they are not breaking).

    You can go back in tmie without violating the Laws of Physics and the speed of light ( C ). You can go back using a rotating singularity ( Kerr Black hole ), wormholes and rotating light beams. According to Einstein Space and Time is linked, also called Spacetime. Whatever you do to Space you also do to Time. A Kerr Black Hole with its rotating singularity which holds so high gravity that bends Space and Time. The Kerr Black Hole also rotates.

    This is what always frustrated me before I majored in physics - they never show the math behind all this. It's not too hard either, mostly just algebra.
    Also, the whole equation is:
    E^2 = (pc)^2 + (mc^2)^2
    which shortens to E=mc^2 when p=0

      Label the "moving" ship O', and the "stationary" ship O.
      The clip tells us that, 12=γ(9) or γ=4/3.
      A clock is at rest (δx'=0) in O' will read time δt': δt=γ(δt'+vδx'/c²)-(1). So that δt=4/3δt'.
      If the light (as you say) shoots from the back then just change v into -v in (1) to get, δt=γ(δt'+(-v)δx'/c²)=γ(δt'-vδx'/c²)=4/3δt' (δx'=0) again!

      A paradox only exist through hands of Evolution. It is Called the "Evolution Road Block". Like the movie Smokey n Bandit. If you are determined enough , and you do not like taking a no for an answer, YOU will find ways around that Road Block...verses saying I CANT!!! NOW Bandit was a movie but that is why people loved it. Lot of those people wanted to look around that Evolution roadblock in their lives.
      People don't like being told NO for an answer and that's why that movie was very successful movie.
      As soon as a person understands the nature of a paradox... The quicker you are to go beyond it to your next paradox.
