    As a long time Vinesauce and Red Vox fan, have some fun facts:
    -Mike had a heavy hand in writing lyrics on Another Light, specifically on In The Garden and Settle For Less.
    -Vinny has admitted he can't listen to Kerosene anymore because he wrote it while he was in a bad place (so the comment about him being alone in the studio might be correct, but afaik he never got into that detail)
    -Memories Lie does have a vocoder! Vinny said he was inspired by Pond, but also he was struggling to sing what he had written for the ending
    -Joe did some of the background vocals on Roid Rage, and he should be coming in to do more for future songs!

    • @sadmeat8937
      @sadmeat8937 4 месяца назад +26

      Vin said on some stream I'm not sure which that a lot of Kerosene was just him by himself. I remember him saying it was kina like him just messing around and he ended up writing multiple songs at home by himself then it kinda snowballed and became an album with all the guys involved.

I adore this band and seeing someone so passionatley enjoy it in the same way I do makes me so happy. Would recommend checking out Davy's Grey, which is basically the proto red vox, moreso than Vine, which is moreso a Vinny solo thing. That's where most of the Red Vox members come from.
    There's also some more solo albums by Vinny, Odds & Ends featuring my favourite niche song, Ocean to the Sea.
    Side note, but you mentioned Come As You Are. Vinny mentioned this song in the video "The curse of Red Vox Realign" and noticed the similarity too.

    I love that Blood Bagel was literally just them goofing off in the studio to relax after the release of the first album, and kind of before they knew it, they had an EP. Also, you forgot the actual bonus song for "What Could go Wrong..." the song "Trolls and Goblins."
    As for Reno, if I remember correctly, he just kinda wants to visit Reno one day, and then he wrote a song about Reno.
    Kerosene, Vinny said, was a very personal, "working through issues" kind of album.
    For Visions and Afterthoughts, if I remember correctly, they just kind of... kept writing and recording songs for their "next Album," and eventually, they realized they had too much for 1 Album, but not quite enough for a double, so they decided "Well, we've come this far, lets keep going," and it became a double album, but spaced apart (so they could actually write/record a few more songs for part 2).

    • @dingus_maximus
      @dingus_maximus 4 месяца назад +7

      Probably wrong about this, but I think I remember Vinny confirming Reno was actually about alcoholism, or at least had alcoholism as a major theme. Makes sense when you think about the lyrics.
      EDIT (two months later): I think I was wrong. I don’t know if I was just misremembering or what, but I think I specifically remember Vinny mentioning it was about gambling addiction, which makes way more sense. Alcoholism might be a lesser theme, but it’s focused on gambling more.

Also I think Kerosene is a very underrated album and from what I remember, Vinny said he made this during a point in his life when he was really depressed and it shows through the genius of the lyrics and that when Vinny is feeling artisticly creative he can pump out something nice. Also I feel like they should do at least one more album like Blood Bagel. I know Vinny and the other members said its likely not possible because they want to stay serious, but they know how to have fun when it comes down to it

  • @wolfcl0ck

    I've actually been following Red Vox since it's inception, I believe I first heard about it while Vinny was playing through Wolfenstein The New Order back in 2016 when he first mentioned it on Stream. Now I *believe* I recall hearing that the song that Vin drank for was Reno, not Job in the City, but that may have just been a game of telephone throughout the community. I'll also say, I'm a little surprised you didn't mention Ghost Page and only briefly touched on Hazy for the What Could Go Wrong section, but I recognize that if you were to go through every single non-filler song on the entire discography, we'd be here all day, so fair enough.
    I get hearing you say you think Another Light might be your favorite. My cousin, who's been a fan as long as myself, shared this opinion up until Afterthoughts blew our minds, and I used to listen to nearly the entire album every single night in the shower.
    I know you said explicitly that you do not count Room to Breathe, which is fair, but given Mike and Joe's assistance on it, I tend to consider it a psuedo part of the discography. I bring it up because I feel like the level of heaviness in Kerosene is most closely seen in Room to Breathe as well. Personally, I'm partial to Hungry Ghost. The emotion I've gotten from most of this album is this sort of feeling of "Both Vinny AND the listener are at their lowest together, and he's speaking directly to them."
    Realign really feels like a triumphant response to Kerosene to me. If Kerosene is meant to make you feel at your lowest, Realign is meant to feel like you defeating your own demons and moving on in life.
    What you really *lose* by listening to the Lost for a While EP *after* it released was the impact that it had given the timeframe of its release. Lost for a While released in October of 2020. You may be able to tell that from hearing Stay in Bed, or possibly from the overarching feelings of self doubt, failure, and of time running out. Despite those heavy as hell themes, things really do still give the feeling of hopefulness more than Kerosene. Again, if Kerosene is supposed to bring out the emotions of being at one's lowest and of sorrow and hopelessness, Lost for a While gives the sense of "Yeah, I'm at the bottom, but the only way to go is up from here." At least, that's what I get from it. It feels a lot more like something to push through rather than something to be overencumbered by.
    Visions and Afterthoughts feel like a mirror in some ways. You can sense similarities between the opening and closing songs, for instance. Afterthoughts in its entirety really shows how far the band has come over the past 8 or so years. I think in general it's a collection of their strongest works, and in my personal opinion, even beats out Another Light. I seldom casually listen to entire albums, but Afterthoughts is an album that I genuinely consistently listen to start to finish because it's just so all-encompassing. It's like a full 3 course meal. The incredible start with Eminence, the playful mystique of playing by the rules, then the quadruple wammy going from Almost A Stranger's emotional low to Jumped the Gun's playful high to Traces absolutely destroying you, then evening things out with Saturnine, it's just so so good.
    I'm not goin anywhere with this essay of a comment, I just really love Red Vox.

    Edit: During the interview Vinny mentioned that he plays the guitar while watching TV with the sound off to enter what he described as the unconsciousness. As a concept the unconsciousness is heavily talked about within Jungian psychology as the unconsciousness being a shared world among all living beings which is more specifically labeled as the “collective unconsciousness”. Tapping into this world as a way to pull ideas for his song writing which may help the songs he writes from this process resonate with more listeners as the lyrics and instrumentations were derived from their own unconsciousness as well. Which leads me to my last point of BINTY PLS PLAE BEARSONA 5 ONLY TWENTY MINOOT PLEASE

    Love to see Red Vox getting some love! Also not that I'm any more of a reliable source, but the "half bottle of whiskey" comment was confirmed by Vinny on a stream, i think maybe the post-album release stream if i remember correctly. However I'm not sure if it was half a bottle, i think he just said he had a couple glasses of whiskey before recording the vocals to help him loosen up

    I started listening to Red Vox when they released Another Light and it was by far my favorite album. I love all of their music, but there’s a vibe that just can’t be recreated anywhere else that’s very comforting and soothing.

    I knew Vinny had some kind of musical gig going on, but never really paid attention to it until I heard Garbage Land. That song is an absolute banger that now lives in my head rent-free. And their other songs are no pushovers as well.

  • @Apollo9898LP
    @Apollo9898LP 4 месяца назад +3

    Second comment just to add: I think Kerosene is stealthily the best album Red Vox has put out, at least from a lyrical perspective. It's just so rich and so dense, and i think the acoustic and folk sounds really help to let the lyrics stand out. I think my favorite album is Realign, but if I was to have a single Red Vox album preserved in like the Smithsonian i would point to Kerosene

    Red Vox is what really got me to listen to non video game music starting early-2019 when I couldn't deal with the stress of school. I had like, "dropped out for the year" basically. Some. Fucking how. I still graduated early and didn't have to deal with last year of senior hs in 2020 covid. autobiography will continue. in the garden is fuckin amazing and stranded is like, my favorite fucking goddamn ever it's s o good. videotape pincentpastor is a funny duck dude I've literally been a fan of since I was 13 *ten goddamn years ago*. I will also forever brag about uploading my Scoot mii for shits and giggles and flipping my goddamn shit when Vinny found it (!) and. well he fucking asked chat to pick between me and the one he was already gonna use. I both felt bad that the person's mii didn't get chosen and also flipped my shit and broke my silence to comment all the way back on the fullsauce stream that I was stoked.
    Point is-
    Vinny means a hell of a lot to me personally. Another Light was genuinely *Another Light* at my lowest times, and that is genuinely the moment I point to mentally and think... "Yeah. It does get better :D" ( ˡᶦᵏᵉ ᶦᶠ ᴵ ᶜᵒᵘˡᵈ ᶜʰᵒᵒˢᵉ ᵐʸ ˢᵗᵃⁿᵈ ⁿᵃᵐᵉ ᶦᵗ'ˢ ᵃ ᵗᵒˢˢ⁻ᵘᵖ ᵇᵉᵗʷᵉᵉⁿ「ᴬᴺᴼᵀᴴᴱᴿ ᴸᴵᴳᴴᵀ」ᵃⁿᵈ「ᴵᴺ ᴿᴬᴵᴺᴮᴼᵂˢ」(ᴵ ᵃˡˢᵒ ᵃᵈᵒʳᵉ ᴿᵃᵈᶦᵒʰᵉᵃᵈ))

    I have Red Vox to thank for a lot. When I was younger, I had a very shallow viewpoint on music and didn’t really get into much beyond the usual “junk food” music that just naturally appealed to my kiddy shrimp brain.
    At the same time, I was a fan of Vinny’s content and had started getting more into his streams and catching some live. He was premiering his song “In The Garden” live there and I thought it sounded really cool! (Again, shrimp brain went wee)
    So I checked out their other music and I…didn’t like it. I was not into the boring rock sound and wanted more ear pleasing stuff. Their other single From The Stars also didn’t do it for me. But I gave it another shot later on a bit before the new album was set to release and suddenly I was noticing how much actually went into the songs of What Could Go Wrong. It intrigued me and I kept listening more and more. I found myself actually liking a lot of these songs now and that lead the way to me becoming a fan of dozens of bands I otherwise would’ve just ignored.
    Another Light was a great album to listen to and just vibe with during my late elementary years, and Kerosene ended up being the most important album for me as it helped me through a really rough period in my life. It gave me an appreciation for it I never would’ve thought I’d have.
    And anything they’ve released after has always been enjoyable, with very few songs I don’t have some level of appreciation for. They are by far my favourite band a truly important one in my life and I hear that’s not exclusive to myself.
    If Vinny ever reads this, please know the music you and the band make means a lot to us and to always stay true to yourselves and your vision.
