How is this not on the television. It's flipping genius. I could sit here, and listen to Alexei, all day. It may even encourage people to cycle more, which will keep the corrupt 'shit-bags' happy. The channel is just marvellous.
I never knew Alexei Sayle of all people - pone of my favorite comedian who I watch all the time lived 2 mins from William Morris House where I was dragged up... Thanks Alexei! good to see you are well - now I will be watching the pub crawl you did - the funny as fuck epic !!! :)) Legend!!
Popped into my feed, have not seen this chap's face on screen for a few years. Quite the gent without the pork pie hat. Lovely narrative while trundling on his bike. Came down to London for the first time in years, Soho pubs, Ronnie Scott's loved it all.
Wonderful bike ride; not bad for a 70 year old; well done. Makes me feel very lazy; don't get out on me bike as often these days. Looking forward to your Letchworth ride; give Welwyn Garden City a try too; good cycle routes all the way round. Enjoyed seeing you in Mandy last night, all the best, PMh
Lovely commentary that took me right back to 77-78 when I drove down from Leeds in my clapped out Mini to start a job selling/maintaining sound and CATV systems to pubs/clubs/hotels in Central London based out of Upper Norwood. I never cycled anywhere but recognised most of the roads in the video as my patch was mainly south of the river. I also like watching The Sweeney for exactly the same reason.
Love it, thank you Alexei! In 1979 I was living in a low rise council block near the Oval in Stockwell, and for a couple of years I used to ride my Claud Butler from there to Mile End and back every day, for work. I've never been so fit, or so brave (especially around the old Elephant & Castle), before or since. Your narration made this lovely ride zoom by, cheers.
Aaaahhhh...memories...enjoyed the trip...takes me back to my daily bike ride to work and back - 13 miles each way - back in the 70s, and I didn't change the face of British comedy...
I used to get the train from Chelmsford to London in the late 1980's to go see bands at The Marquee and things like that. I love this video because I'm just ticking the boxes: "I been there, I's been there, been there." Wonderful. Wish I'd been into comedy back in the day.
Memory _is_ a funny thing Alexei. Thanks for posting this I remember regularly cycling this same route in the early 90s. It's oddly the same but different.
Didn't know you had a youtube channel mate. I like these narrated bike rides, found it relaxing. Been a big fan of yours since i was a kid in the 80's. I was chuckling to myself the other day thinking about Radical Posture , "No, don't you want me"🤣
Really enjoyed that. Followed my current commute (virtually) Will remember the singing voice of you going past the old Shaftesbury, & the nightclub which was by Chelski FC…Barberellas. & also the Ken bike docking station just outside the block of flats you lived in which were demolished.
Yes Alexi, that part of Soho was a red light area, they did have red lighting in windows and women in the windows (I recall from my old Marque Club days and after we would go to eat in China Town as the food was cheap and they stayed open late)
That just blew my mind! Where you were standing on Meard street was where my old band parked out van when we played at the “Alice in wonderland” night at a club there that I think was called Gossips. I remember the girls shouting at up from the windows above us!
Loved that. Thank you. I used to live in Sands End, Fulham and would walk home from Hyde Park along that route or turn off down the King Road. People who didn’t drink all the alcohol in one go. Hah. Me too.
This is like 'Out of Town' with Jack Hargreave .. but on a bike and some occasional mid to heavy breathing thrown in for the thrill seekers - Nice one Alexei 👍
Wonderful. As you were coming up to Hyde park corner i started palpitating as i used to take my life in my hands on a regular basis going round there. Deep breath then commit. Great buzz afterwards though. And it never once occurred to me in 15 years i could have cut across. What a dick..
One of the best yet. Maybe because the 'narration' seemed to have more structure? .....Btw 20:49 Alexei's 'the Donald Sinden 'I'm saving that one for my book, darling! harumph' moment'.
21:45 I think the pub that Alexei is referring to was called The Rose Tavern. It used to have a fringe theatre upstairs. I did a very poor play there in the late 80's.
It's been a while but well worth the wait. I have one quibble Alexei, you tell us that you changed comedy in 1979 then in the same sentence (or thereabouts) you tell us that you used to live in a hole... shades of Monty Fucking Python and Bernard Cribbins. The world has turned full circle. Cheers 👍🏼
I'm glad to see that you're doing okay, Alexei (I'd never have recognised you) and you're right about Blair and Campbell. Your video makes me sad; I wish I could go back.
Always enjoy these London cycle jobs Alexei. Being a SW18 lad I'm probably a bit biased & prone to nostalgia as I've not lived in London as an adult, only travelled up by train & tube from Surrey for gigs, demonstrations etc in my teens & early 20's. Did you used to frequent The Fulham Greyhound at all? Sad what happened there. Seems the Southern Belle went under too? Anyway thanks for these videos. They serve as a nice bit of nostalgia for me of what might have been had I stayed in & or around London. I think you're a great guy too. Cheers Alexei.
Hi, I have one of your sketches stuck in my head from when I was a child, it's about floral borders I would love to know where to find that. It's up there with the what lovely Marigolds sketch can I boil your cat lol, I have always loved your comedy. Take care and have a good time at it. But i would love to see the floral border scene again.
Please do more of these videos they very relaxing to watch. Does Hello John Got A New Motor still get played and do you still make millions of quids from it? Eh?
Brill. (Saw you in 1976/77 in the Edinburgh Fringe, Heriot Watt Student Union, 5 mins of you repeating swear words without stopping, that was Brill too). Agree on Tony Blair comments.
Only four minutes in and Alexei has broken every page of the handbook of the highway code. This is obviously going to be a seat of the pants must watch.
Great video Alexei, but consider wearing a cycle helmet, I have three retired and damaged cycle helmets through minor 'spills' over my cycling life and still enjoy life cycling thanks to those three old helmets helping protecting whats left of my brain cells !
I can vaguely remember Alexei talking about Mamils, but he used the expression 'Puiffins'. All I can recall is the 'ffin' bit was 'fat f*ck in lycra' but I cant rcell what he called the 'pu' bit was.
Alexei is slightly out on the dates on living in lannoy point, as I was his postie, and I didn't start until 85, couldn't believe it when he opened the door too his flat, I just wanted say everything cak fucking cak. Met him a few years ago in Edinburgh, and he told me my favourite sketch the one about elephant riding a motorbike was about his time living in Lannoy point
Ohhhhh nbest bit for me was hearing that I'm not the only one who is amazed by people who would buy Spirits and not drink it that night! Annnd! Have drink laying about... I'm no longer lonely 😋
As an entertainer from a Jewish background it would be nice to see Alexei do a podcast on the anti-semitism accusations towards Corbyn and his supporters. What he thinks about Baddiel, Riley, Obermann, etc
@@russeljohn3471 Lest we forget The Comedy Store was also complicit in the rise of Jo Brand and Paul Merton, more unflushable turds of comedy. I don't know what Alexei is smoking. Maybe needs the BBC money.
bein g a fellow scouser, i always wondered if you were a bit "sharper" than the "southern" mob....it must have been strange a scouser amongst all the southern accents !...nice to know there is a scouser firmly planted there telling them exactly how it is !...you can imagine how seedy and run down London was in the 70,s and 80,s, where as now its all spit n pollished !
Is London allergic to trees? and don't Londoners give a toss about this? When the Alexei-Bike passes a lone tree, it looks homeless, and we know London's policy on the homeless. I thought I saw a tree up ahead around 20 minutes in but it was a traffic light on green. Or a homeless person being sick.
So comforting. I imagine myself sitting on a little seat over the front wheel; Alexei's dulcet tones washing over me.
Get a grip

Nice to see the place where Alexei invented alternative comedy. (Seriously, what a legend he is)
We need more cycling tours Alexei. I miss them.

That’s a bit like seeing him on tv in the 80s and asking - why’s this not on the radio?
The number of times he catches up and passes the BMW and that Honda CRV 😂
I never knew Alexei Sayle of all people - pone of my favorite comedian who I watch all the time lived 2 mins from William Morris House where I was dragged up... Thanks Alexei! good to see you are well - now I will be watching the pub crawl you did - the funny as fuck epic !!! :)) Legend!!
So relaxing and informative, and Alexei you're not bad at all for nearly 70, still a true "Young One" 🙂
Popped into my feed, have not seen this chap's face on screen for a few years. Quite the gent without the pork pie hat. Lovely narrative
while trundling on his bike. Came down to London for the first time in years, Soho pubs, Ronnie Scott's loved it all.
Wonderful Alexi thank you so much for these. There's one thing that unites us it's not our Doc Martens it's our memory jogs with Alexi
‘looking for crumbs’ but giving us a slice of life ✌️
Haha me seventy this year too 🤣🤣🤣doing better than me riding yer bike!

Absolutely love these and we don’t know whether to take it seriously or not - great entertainment and lovely to see London with a lack of traffic
Hi Alexei!!! Thanks for the comedy!! Love all your work x

What a fabulous concept, a man of the people, suitably mellowed and cynical in the right amount 😁

That crossing by Les Miserables must be one of the most dangerous in London. I often see somebody nearly getting run over there.
Great stuff Alexei, many thanks.
Thank you, there is always the being and that's a mighty animal.
You mentioned Dawes Road.
I lived across the way, off Lillie Road for a number of years..
All devoid of warmth and character now..

Great to hear your memories while I’m recovering from COVID. Looks like it could be a dangerous bike ride. Did you ever have an accudent?
