Looks like a very capable budget-friendly option - cheaper bows are getting better all the time and it's nice to see something that doesn't cost the earth, that you can enjoy shooting and use to put food on the table with. Nice 😀
The Chinese bows have come a long way in the last 10 years, wow! Awesome work Peter. What's your pick of all the Chinese bows? For me it is very hard. Non-ILF I think PMZ takedown longbow and PMZ coral snake takedown. The black hunter recurve and longbow takedowns are also excellent. ILF is another world altogether in terms of performance. The White Feather Lark 62" shoots very well and so do most of the metal risers. The Sanlida Hermit X10 is a real shooter but a bit short for me with the short limbs.
There are much bows for the money in the chinese bows. And along the road they compeed fine with many western brands. At the end of the day, it’s never the bow which are causing the most problems, but the archer. Thanks for watching
I have the SAS Pioneer. Looks like the same bow. The flemish string is a huge advantage over the endless string that came with my bow. A $30 extra value. It really is a good bow at that price. You are a very good shot too! That was a great review with the speed and accuracy test.
I have that exact bow but different company marked it. Mine was marked as a Western Recreation Frontier. I have seen this also for the SAS Pioneer, good bow but leather wrap it comes with is terrible. I changes that out first chance I got and I love the bow.
Peter, do you favor a heavier arrow for hunting? I know some archers shoot lighter arrows even down to 400 grains for more arrow speed, but there is definitely a happy medium between arrow speed and arrow momentum that has to be considered for hunting and adequate penetration. I watched another video by a traditional archer and his penetration testing showed that going from a lighter arrow, say 450 grains, had substantial increase in penetration when he shifted to a 500 grain arrow. I think most archers want good penetration, but you can go so heavy that an arrow seems to shoot in slow motion and drops in trajectory like a rock, allowing animals to substantially react to the arrow and drastically change the arrow point of impact on the animal.
I have several factors I consider. 1) what animals are we hunting 2) what are we accurate with 3) noise from the bow In my personal case, I prefer slow arrows, meaning around 150-160 fps. I simply shoot too high with arrows flying 180 fps. So if I’m shooting a faster designed bow, I simply have to increase arrow weight to get it in the 150-160 range. If I’m going to shoot a wilderbeest size animal, I will use a 600+ grain arrow. But for a Roedeer a 450 grain arrow is just fine. But if it shoots 180 fps. I might as well stay at home.
I too like a 600 grain out of a 50# bow, quietens the shot, and hit like a truck😂😂, however it does damage the foam targets a bit. And judos that heavy destroy aluminium cans 🎉😂.. I'm going to need another bow rack to get one of these😢😂😂
Thanks for watching. Well I’m not a Hill Style specialist, so thats also why I dont talk too much about feel. It have a little hand chock, but are fairly quiet. The drawforce curve seems kind of stabile without stacking too much at the end. It’s a 68” bow, and I’m drawing around 27-27,5” so pretty smooth for me. Anyway it’s also only 150$ right?
Good shooting Peter. I've been wanting to shoot a longbow, but I already have about 12 or 13 bows, and couldn't convince myself that i needed another one. But after seeing you shoot yours and finding out what the price is for this bow, I don't think I'm going to talk myself out of this one. Thanks for the video Pete. By the way, where are you located? Just curious. Thanks again friend. Jim
Thanks! I’m curently using the Sanlida Recurve and I must say that there is alot of bow for the money. I have only used the longbow in this video, but since there is alot of bow for the money in the recurve, why not the longbow too. Thanks for watching
The chinese brand have been around for some time. And are common among target archery and Olympic style recurve. But they have resently launched a wooden long and recurve and sent them to me to test. They are beginner sets, with alot value for the money
@@peterjuulsgaard Thanks Peter, I have been looking for a Hill style longbow recently. The very good ones (St. Patrick. Black Widow etc...) are very expensive. I might try this to see if I like them first. Last question: Is it cut to center?
@@manuelwebe looks like it’s on center or to center, but there is a rather thick strike plate ob it, though. But maybe a thinner piece of leather will do the trick
I’m not all that perfectionistic about what they are called and how the handle and flex needs to be. There is alot of middle space bows out there with a little of every style
The longbow is more quiet than the recurve, I would say. But it’s hard to hear on a video from a camera with a sensitive mic, when you are standing next to it. I think all my bows sounds loud on camera 🙈. Anyways It is probably not the quietest in the world, but difficult to hear on video though
@@peterjuulsgaard they do look really similar, that was the first part of what prompted the question. The second part was curiosity in how the difference in length impacted the hand shock, which is a common complaint with the Montana.
Hello! New into archery and just got this amazing beginner bow. I noticed that the string is closer to the lower limb (positive tiller), rigth? Is that normal in this bow? 🙌🏻
Yes it is normal that there is a positive tiller, because it’s tillered tor split finger grip. You can shoot it 3 under too, but then you need a higher nocking point
I’m splitting the string to stick the one end of the fur strip through. Then I’m wrapping the fur strip around the string, and finally putting the fur strip through the string again
thanks for the review ill be sure not to buy it ans shoot my vintage fred bears..hehe ill use the coin i save not buying it to head to the titty bar for a cold beer,,,ha
The Sanlida longbow shoots a 498,6 grain arrow 163-164 fps. Draw weight is 49,8 pounds at 28” so 10 gpp. Thanks for watching.
Thank you.
i would say - those are mass market average speeds for longbows )
So the royal X8 recurve is about 10 fps faster
Yes

I have the recurve version and I love the bow it shoots so sweet and shoots a large range of spine that shoots straight thru it
Thats also my experience with the recurve version
As good as ever bow buddy. Amen

Thanks for another great video Peter. I was wondering if you have ever done a video on your favorite bow? Or if you would. Take care.

Peter, great video. You didn't mention how the bow feels upon release,..is it clean shooting? Pound for pound, does it pull smooth?

Not a Hill style (ASL), A reflex deflex bow

preference for hunting the longbow or recurve?
No preferences for me. Each type has its benefits. Keeping the head straight in the situation is more important than the type of bow
How about quietness of the longbow

@peterjuulsgaard Have you shot the Bear Montana? How would you compare these two given the price difference?
I haven’t shot a Bear Montana. But looking at pictures those two looks pretty similar.
@@peterjuulsgaard they do look really similar, that was the first part of what prompted the question. The second part was curiosity in how the difference in length impacted the hand shock, which is a common complaint with the Montana.
How is the hand shock with that bow ? Is bad or depends on the brace hight ?
Not too bad, but a little more hand shock than a recurve. Raising the brace height helps a little

Do you consider as capable hunting small hogs? Thanks and greetings.
Well I dont have experience with hogs, but a bow is a bow. So why not? Thanks for watching
Sorry, I wanted to say if the speed of the arrow and the power of the bow would be enough. For an ethical hunting. Thanks you so much.

Yes of course. If you master the bow and you use a good arrow and a sharp broadhead.
Thank you mate.
Can you use a fast flight string on this now ?
The string is D97 so yes
