There's always wive's tales about stuff put in the food. When I was in the Canadian army, everyone believed that there was saltpeter in the food to diminish certain "drives". I know that fable isn't unique to Canadian grunts...I've heard it from other countries too. And like every soldier while on leave, it was disproved pretty quickly.
Just an FYI if you are interested, Dextrose in and German is literally translated as "Grape-sugar" or in German Traubenzucker. So that would be a multi-vitamin dextrose tablet. Depending on the process the Grape flavor will be present or not. Love your vids
Originally Graham crackers were designed to be bland, similar to the original purpose of Kellogs corn flakes. Supposed to suppress "urges"; fools really thought boring food would make people less horny
When you were describing the goulash at that time I was eating beef stew so I Associated it with that because the beef stew I was eating smelled fantastic plus it tastes good too. Thanks for the video it was a good one tasty. Keep your power dry!
In the field we would boil water in a pot and warm most all the food in the boiling water rather than dumping it into a pan then the mess kit. Much less to clean up, nothing burns and just as fast. I don't know why the eastern European rations don't include black pepper or some sort of hot sauce, much needed for some of the meat dishes.
Just found this video. Pretty interesting! Why do some of the food canisters look like cat 🐈 food? 🤣 (I think it’s funny). Thanks for posting your videos, good content good job!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else make an MRI look appetizing 😂 I’m sure how appetizing you find them varies depending on whether or not you’re on the battlefield starving your ass off…
They use a cutlery set and a three piece mess kit for their army at least in the early nineties. Can't remember what they used as a stove as we mainly ate in field kitchens.
Any cans dates are just the Best by Date which means the taste is the best. you could eat that can 5-10 years after that date. as long as the can is not dented, cracked or damaged in any way.
Nice review. I have one of these with the same best before date. Glad to see it held up. Just discovered your channel, will look forward to more reviews.
I've noticed the Eastern Euro and Russian MRE's use a lot of commercial products just packaged and sealed. Not special long shelf life stuff like US or Western MRE's
In Australian 🇦🇺 Rat packs { MRE } we have a tube of condensed milk. The small metal Spoon 🥄 is cald FRED, field ration eating device, or grunts name is { F#=Ken ridiculous eating device. I’m enjoying watching your videos, Thank you.
Its interesting to see that our soldiers rations consist of regular civilian stuff you can buy in any supermarket.. Sure it might taste a bit more decent than food that Is made to last for ages but I thought the army would prefere longgevity over taste. I wonder how long do these rations last before they go rancid?
what i know of the food inspectors (army veternarings) at a army base 4 decades ago was. at the expire date the inspector goes in pulls a case or 2 from a lot number, opens them all up checking on the components. those that pass get like a year long extension before re-inspection. those that don't or are close to expiring get sold off.
@@FilFeenejsem si jistý, že si to všichni přeloží. Translation: This is civilian/commercial version. The military one is called BDP and has almost all in military packaging. Here showcase of original one: ruclips.net/video/sFbkLHyn0iQ/видео.html

During the American Civil War, doctors in the field would ask each soldier the "status of their bowels" and if the soldier said he had loose bowels, he'd give the soldier an opium tincture sometimes called "black rock". If the soldier suffered from constipation he'd give them something to loosen them up.
In Canada when basic training and u eat the mre they just threw bunch in a boiling pot and grabbed them out of that different on mission obviously bought most countries started adopting the use of ration heaters as there less weight less chance been seen obviously fire can been seen from far away but lot the European countries used have there own cook kit because stove or even few u had 3 separate used stoves where most guys would keep all the fuel tabs and just reuse the one stove instead 3
Looks like cat food or dog food but doesn't taste like my question is is how do you have a frame of reference to know what cat food and dog food taste like.?
I think another part of why foreign MRE's are better is they spend less on defense budget overall. It's no secret the US foots the bill for most of europe, not to mention a lot of their soldiers aren't actually fighting prolonged conflicts. US MRE's hold up extremely well to the elements, age, etc. A lot of these foreign ones have jelly exploding just from shipping. They're simply not "combat ready", more for training missions. If you look at other countries assault rations, they're incredibly similar to US ones, because they have to be to actually hold up. Just my 2 cents.
Many Armed Forces issue stoves separately. Although the truth is that any regular is going to private purchase a lightweight camping stove and better mess gear anyway. I
If it is sugar free gum with xylitol in the American mre it will have a laxative effect. Maybe they give a laxative because the mre gives constipation....lol
Xylitol only causes a laxative effect when consumed in large quantities. The amount in the gum isn't enough to do it. It's one of those internet rumors that has some basis in fact, but doesn't tell the whole story.
Carry weight. A lot of US meals have dehydrated things in them to make them lighter. The pouches they come in are also less likely to get damaged than cans. In other words, it's just more pragmatic.

After volunteering and eating US MRE'S for 30 days as part of a 2016 US ARMY, Natick Food Labs study, I take ours over other countries meals ready to eat anytime.

If you don’t have enough fiber, and you may be sitting around for a few days, and you eat too much protein and carbohydrates, you can get a military version of “stopped up”, or “impacted”. Then then you might need a military “evacuation/extraction“ laxative if you don’t get enough fiber, juice, etc.🥹🍖🥩🥓🍞🫓🥖💩

Modern MRE's will always be better than surplus K-Rations
In many Europe armies you get reusable silverwear/ cuttlery as an soldier. So you just have to take it with you going in the field.
If you want to see how good some MRE's are prepared, try the French MRE's. They know how to treat their combatants.

If the gum contains xylitol it has a laxative effect in large quantities, I doubt 2 little bricks would be anywhere near enough. Great ration this.
3/ 8oz screw top tins for bumpin sticks. Sugar, creamer, and fresh ground coffee.... call it my "mud kit"😅😅

You should definitely give an SANFD MRE a try, you can get them on Serac whom supplies them. It's open for civilians to buy
