Hi Chris, I've been binge watching your videos recently and they're great, clear and comprehensive so thank you. I'm on the verge of getting a 12 week old show cocker and I'm hoping to employ your training techniques. My question is about puppy socialising, when and where does that happen if they aren't been taken out for walks. Hoping for your advice. Cheers 👍
Hi there Liam I only tend to socialise my dogs within my own household as long as I feel that the dog doesn’t need any more than that. but after that my dogs want meet any other dogs out until they’re fully trained as an individual by which time your train will take over and manipulate and control any issues that you may have.
When I do a retrieve with my 15 week old pup he has stopped returning to me. Do you have any videos of you using the training line? Or do you have any tips for encouraging him to come back on the retrieve?
We Have a 14 week old pup, and starting to walk In fields etc now and letting him off the lead. I trust him and He never goes further than 10m or so and we are doing recall training (hit and miss!) whilst out. However he is getting a little too confident and Heel work out when walking never goes well. I think this probably falls into your above advice above avoiding too much too soon? When to start this? When heel work is good and no lead pulling? Thanks in advance. Rory
Hi rory it may be worth you contacting me on Facebook where it’s a little easier for me to have a conversation with you so if you like it go across to Hampshire spaniel training on Facebook and contact me👍
Hi Chris, following on from the video, you say not to expose the pup to other things. But everything else I read says take the puppy out (even carrying it) to socialise it to different environments. Are you saying not to do this?
Hi Jonathan it’s never too late to start especially only at 12 weeks nothing to worry about let me know if you need any further help contact me on my Facebook page
No, indeed not, but my cocker is 20 weeks old and I really want to SEE how you do it. Time goes by so quickly and I want to get as much help as possible while she is still young :)
I think you’re very clear, it’s great
this is really useful content i’ve only had a pup a few days and i can relate to what you’ve said
Brilliant
