I saw Aurora perform live on November 29th, and I was in the front row. She sang her song Queendom, dedicated to the LGBT. I was wearing a pride hat, and she looked directly into my eyes while she sang. It was one of the most electric moments of my life. When Aurora really sees you, YOU KNOW. I can't even convey how intense it is. Seeing her perform live was the most incredible experience. There were 5000 people in the audience. All of them in sync with each other. All of them respecting each other to the most beautiful degree. All of them radiating pure love. I've never felt more cozy, accepted, and respected in such a crowd. It truly felt like home, and it aligned with everything Aurora writes and sings about. It was just perfect.
Yes, you MUST look into the Jacob Collier rabbit hole, he comes from classical music royalty, and is a true genius. He didn’t have to learn the piano part, he wrote it and improvises on it. He started recording in the music room in his house in his teens, Quincy Jones was so impressed he invited him to the Montreaux Jazz Festival and then offered to manage him… He has won six Grammies and one for each of his first four albums. He is on another level, using microtones and polyrhythms and making them accessible, he is always centred on the feelings he can evoke. PEASE go down this rabbit hole, you will attract a sophisticated knowledgeable audience. Happy spelunking!
I watched an interview which explained the "grittiness" of Aurora's voice, it was freezing cold and caused a little vibration in both of their voices, which they actually thought was really cool. And also, Jacob's hands and fingers were freezing so he had to be very precise in what he was playing. This is not verbatim but just a recollection of what I heard.
“He’s nothing like I’ve ever seen before,” Stormzy has said, while Coldplay’s Chris Martin labelled him “the best musician in the world”. The great Quincy Jones, Collier’s de facto manager and early mentor, added: “I have never in my life seen a talent like this.” I’m pretty sure this is all you need to know before starting your journey. Doesn’t really matter where you start, but make sure the camera is rolling.
That single low note on the church bells slays me every time! This is a truly beautiful collaboration between Jacob and Aurora. I swear it makes my heart race! Yes, explore Jacob Collier’s music.
It's such a beautiful performance, and yes... it's impossible to not smile when you see Aurora. She's so adorble. You should really check out Jacob. He's a musical genious and is called the modern day Mozart. Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and educator. He even invented a new type of guitar. (JCSM-5) At his shows he always make the crowd sing harmonies and turn them into the most beautiful choir. It's just amazing how he is able to do it. You should check out "Jacob Collier - Little Blue at MahoganySessions" He invited some of his fans to sing with him. They only had a few hours rehearsal before they performed it. Just like Aurora he is a very colourful, kind soul, full of life and joy. One of my favourite artists and really worth checking out!
Jacob Collier is a multi-grammy winning artist/multi-instrumentalist/composer/arranger/producer with perfect pitch who has created his own genre. Consider reacting to JC on any/all of the following: “Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing” “P.Y.T.” “All Night Long” (feat. The Metropole Orkest) or, imho his magnum opus “Moon River”(see how many luminaries you can name appearing in the intro)
OMG, Ewan McGregor, that’s why his voice sounds so familiar🤯 Thanks for this🥰🥰 I absolutely love this masterpiece of a collaboration, and that ending makes me emotional every time🥺💚💙
I never thought about it, but he does sound a bit like Ewan McGregor in a way. Ewan has been my long-time movie star crush. I fell in love with him in Moulin Rouge, and I've loved him ever since.
To hear his early stuff, i recommend ‘The Flintstones’ theme [for which he won a Grammy], ‘Moon River’ and ‘All Night Long’. His more recent work with Mahogany Sessions is incredible: ‘Little Blue’, ‘Summer Rain’ and Björk’s ‘Hyperballad’ are miraculous. He is on another level. Like AURORA, he is totally comfortable with being his quirky funny self.
My guess is that they shot most or all of the closeups in one take (with Aurora there the whole time), from which they also used the audio; the audio matches up with the closeups so well that I'm not inclined to believe that it's something they recorded in a separate session at a studio. Jacob arriving on the platform would have been a separate take to accommodate Aurora not being there, and they must have done one or more takes where they redid the performance so they could get the distant shots without the cameras used in the closeups being visible; no matter if they didn't line up perfectly with the original performance, because those shots don't show the kinds of details that would make that noticeable.
Hi Ken, fantastic reaction to an awsome performance by 2 incredible artists . Aurora arriving on the platform poof like magic 😅 thanks for returning back to Aurora . Take a listen to Jacob performing LITTLE BLUE LIVE.... I knew you would love this performance , this beatiful duet especially being for a very important issue.....😊
Yea, this collaboration is amazing. Insane harmonies :). I love Aurora. This collaborations was my first introduction to Collier and I have to say he is very talented artist too.
This duet is more than beautiful 🥹💙✨. Jacob Collier is Mozart of our time❤. And what he is doing with audience is incredible💥 Please, watch 🙏 ✨Little Blue - Mahogany session ✨All night long ✨ Beautiful trio: Laufey, Dodie & Jacob - Wild Mountain Thyme (PBS) ✨ Moon River Than all will be clear for You ☺️🙏💙✨ Aurora is beautiful everytime🤍☄️ And thank You💚🍀
I think the main closeup camera recording and audio recording is all in one take. But then they did different video takes from far away without the closeup cameraman on the platform, and added clips from that to the video.
I wouldn't assume he "learned the piano part". He likely did some pre-composition but also improvised because he does that all the time in literally every live concert because he CAN and does play by feel. He's using his lower range here but his 4 octave range goes much higher including when he signs microtonally (i.e. between the notes). Others here have made good suggestions so I'll add his version Bridge Over Trouble Water in both the recorded version that includes Yebba or the live version from L.A. with just John Legend and Tori Kelly. For his jazz piano chops there's also "Don't You Know" with Snarky Puppy and "Moon River" for him a cappela singing microtonally with shifting key centers and tunings. For more classical choral writing check out "World O World" official transcription. He's as good on his custom 5 string guitar or the 10 string one he's been using lately, Also on bass, drums and a dozen other instruments.
Me saying "learned the piano part" is just referring to the hours of playing to get it comfortable enough to improvise without thinking too hard. All good suggestions for songs BTW that I will add to the list.
Fantastic reaction -- one of your best! Aurora is always awesome, and I love their chemistry together. I'm new to Collier too, but he said that he couldn't do what he really wanted to do on the piano, because his hands couldn't move very fast in the cold. That makes his playing even more impressive. I would love a proper BTS video of this. There are some clips, but not really much about the production and how it was filmed. I would guess that the closeups were from a cameraman on the platform with them, and that's the audio we're hearing, and the other stuff was done separately for context, but is not really "live." Best of luck with the contest -- your sculpture looks great!
I think that low note strike represents the church bell. Why that performance didn't melt the glacier then tore it asunder with the that scream is beyond me. !!
I'd suggest your next Jacob tune would be his song Little Blue Mahogany Sessions. Then take the full dive into his musical mind with his cover of Moon River.
I enjoyed your reaction very much, thank you. I think Fix you (cold play cover) would be a good place to start exploring Jacob's voice and piano playing.
A great reaction and loved your thoughts about everything throughout :) As both a huge fan of AURORA and Jacob Collier - i'm going to try and temper myself here because, as fanbases and on reaction videos, we can be so effusive that it gets overwhelming all the recommendations - so i'm gonna do my best to keep it brief and focused: Jacob has so many sides to him that it can be easy for a new listener to be suggested some of his really far out stuff by us over-enthusiastic fans and for them to get a bit of a muddled picture of what 'kind' of music it is that he makes (you're intro to him has gone great, going by this video and the things you commented on) Building from your comments about the piano playing I would strongly recommend checking out - (whether its for a reaction or just your own enjoyment): his version of 'Fix You' by Coldplay that he did for THEREWITHCARE - it's just him, his voice and a piano in his bedroom - and lets you hear and feel his personality and taste. (if that hits you like I think it might, he does a version of Hallelujah in the same place that's incredible) For a grander production and to hear him with an orchestra - I cannot recommend highly enough his live version of 'In The Real Early Morning' - a heartwrenching/warming epic about meeting old friends and loved ones in your dreams. Multi-instrumentalist doesn't even begin to cover it, because he plays so much - but one of his 'main' instruments is his voice - and vocal arrangements specifically (he's hugely inspired by Take 6, Eric Whitacre etc) and so i'd also point you to his unbelievable acapella re-imagining of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' that he made with Tori Kelly, John Legend and all built around a phone clip of YEBBA singing candidly in her dressing room one day. Already too long a comment, so i'll just finish by adding - (and this'll be suggested by nearly everyone) - his Mahogany Sessions version of his song 'Little Blue' Have an amazing time if you go on to check these out - and thanks again for a lovely reaction :)
You're welcome and I will be reacting to Little Blue soon. I'm as interested in seeing it as you are to see me see it. Possibly Bridge Over Troubled Water as well.
One more thing: Check out the radically original version of A Rock Somewhere that he re-purposed and softened for this video. This shows his cross-genre versatility. He's won 6 Grammys so far but this is one of his latest 3 nominations, this one in the World Music category. ruclips.net/video/IaLqkeKx814/видео.html
I’ve watched so many of your reactions and I absolutely love the way you dig into things. Aurora is so so special. This pairing was masterful. I'm glad to hear you're going to react to Jacob Collier's song Little Blue - Mahogany Sessions. Jacob plays a 5 string guitar he recently developed with Martin Guitars. He tunes it d a e a d . But for this song he has a capo on the first fret so most of the song in the key of Eb.
I don't know if you ever heard little blue by Jacob collier or not but is also worth watching his live performances, they are beautiful and aurora released Invisible wounds as an orchestral version, it's amazing!! much love from Brazil! also I have a suggestion for you to react to Matt Maltese, more specifically As The World Caves In
Hi Ken, 👋 may I suggest another new artist for you to react to ... Lolli Wren 3 songs her cover of HURT and a couple of her original songs IN A WAVE ..ALL MINE ..Good luck with your sculpture, it looks pretty cool to me ....😊
Ken, I so wanted you to keep going especially right at the end, because I knew what was coming. At this point, I burst into horrified tears for all the destruction that we are carrying out to this Rock that we call Home. Another commenter has said that he wished that you did not stop right in the middle of a guitar solo (I think it was on a Red mash up you were reacting to) and I must add that it really does take a lot away from my appreciation of the music and/or videos for me. I would personally find it much more enjoyable if you could somehow find a way to get away from this habit of stopping the songs mid ‘eargasm’. As to Jacob Collier (the musician’s musician) I loved his composition World O World (with choir) that happened in the USA, sorry can’t remember where.
I do try not to but I screw up sometimes. I keep trying to do better though and, if I do stop, I try to always go back to the beginning or right before it starts. I am, as everybody else, a work in progress.
That last note makes me cry every time there's this harsh sadness and anger in it, it just breaks me

As both a huge fan of AURORA and Jacob Collier - i'm going to try and temper myself here because, as fanbases and on reaction videos, we can be so effusive that it gets overwhelming all the recommendations - so i'm gonna do my best to keep it brief and focused:
Jacob has so many sides to him that it can be easy for a new listener to be suggested some of his really far out stuff by us over-enthusiastic fans and for them to get a bit of a muddled picture of what 'kind' of music it is that he makes (you're intro to him has gone great, going by this video and the things you commented on)
Building from your comments about the piano playing I would strongly recommend checking out - (whether its for a reaction or just your own enjoyment):
his version of 'Fix You' by Coldplay that he did for THEREWITHCARE - it's just him, his voice and a piano in his bedroom - and lets you hear and feel his personality and taste. (if that hits you like I think it might, he does a version of Hallelujah in the same place that's incredible)
