I love watching someone else have pretty much the same experience as me, just a huge grin every time I hear a new track remixed, and every time I see a character in glorious 3D. I've lost count of how many times I've replayed this masterpiece over the years.
For anyone having trouble with the Yoshi rhythm like Jared was, he was probably starting off on the wrong button. At the bottom right, the button will flash when you hit it correctly. If you don't see it flashing, switch the order you're hitting them in and see if that fixes it. It's not just a matter of hitting either button on the beat, you have to hit a specific button on a specific beat.
the magitech armor was apparently in the original, it was just very hard to tell because of the graphics. I never noticed either and I love this game to death lol
the physics for the curtains in booster's tower are beyond anything else in this game. they look so good that they're out of place with the rest of the game's style. literally too good for the game.
I'm only 6 minutes in and while I think they did a great job with this graphical style, I already miss the chunky sprites lol. The art direction in both versions is so smart that the original honestly holds up. Can't wait to watch the rest!
Honestly, while I respect the original's art style, I always thought it was a little ugly lol. I much prefer the look here. But I know that amounts to nothing more than taste

The character interactions in the original were a lot snappier, and even more expressive in some instances despite the limitations. The remake feels sluggish in those regards, or just shy of making some gags land because of how the updated graphics and models affect the flow of the character movements. But as you yourself said, it all amounts to personal tastes.
It's crazy, with the Yoshi race I had to literally had to mute it and then I could get it no problem. Kind of wild that it's still broken even in the remake. Glad you're enjoying the game!

As of March 2024, the remake sold 3.31 million units. And the original sold 2.14 million in its lifetime. The remake sold 3.14 million by the end of last year, meaning that it outsold the original by EXACTLY one million in less than 2 months. If there's any chance for a sequel, it's right now!
I've never played the original...well, I tried it out for 15 mins at a friend's house. But I'm pretty hyped now that I got a chance to play this. I've always loved the artstyle, SUPER glad that they basically kept it the same.
I had no problem with it in the original version. I had a HORRIBLE time with it my first go round on the Switch on my pro controller. It worked perfectly with the joy cons connected directly to the console. So I’m gonna guess it’s a wireless thing.

I would laugh my ass off if during one of those RPG moments where they ask,"Would you like a recap?" and the player picks 'yes' that they hand you a yellow Cliff Notes book or send you a link on a phone to the 'Wiki article' equivalent (if it's a modern or futuristic setting') XD
Just to note, the Mushroom Kingdom Frog Coin is NOT lost forever if you miss it the first time. After Peach joins your party, a Toad will be wandering near the door for you to jump on.
For the normal battle theme, it's a bit halfway-done, I feel. It's fun, but it sort of amounts to nothing, musically. EDIT: This does appear to be a theme with some of the extensions, sadly. Like, why extend the tune if all you're adding is a few seconds of vamp?
Intentionally didn't watch this live because I wanted to experience the game myself first. My absolutely favorite thing is everyone else dancing during the level up screen. It always makes me smile. My one legitimate gripe (i.e. not "they got rid of the Bruce Lee reference" type stuff) is that the sound design for the cutscenes needed some work. The lack of sound effects, not having its own proper background music, and the lack of vocal grunting just make all the cutscenes feel off. Also, super minor nitpick, but I find it weird that they kept "Bowser's Keep" (rather than changing it to "Bowser's Castle") but changed the "Koopa Troop" moniker to "Bowser's Minions."
Wait wtf I'm so behind the times that the only reason I know about Wonder is because the the train ADs. And the only reason I know this got a remake is because of this vid.
It still kills me that Jared has a fair amount of musical knowledge...way more than I have and he still can't hit A & B on beat for the Yoshi race haha. It's obviously a block at this point but I appreciate the laughs regardless Jerd.

I thought Geno Boost was permanent, as well. So, I spent an hour or so one day as a kid just continuously boosting all my party members, hoping that the buff was permanent. Oops.
Reminder that Mallow is better than Geno. He has an actual personality & a arc that develops over the course of the game. Geno has no personality & his only purpose is to deliver a single scene of exposition that could've just as well been given by Frog Sage.

I do find a lot of these name changes really arbitrary. Frogfucious might no longer be part of a "Confucious say" meme, but he was still named after a genuine historical figure known for his wisdom. Now he's just a generic sage. Ah well, minor issues. But still. EDIT: Sort of made worse by the fact they kept Toadofsky. But still, nitpicks.
I'm very much split on this game. On the one side, this appeals to my nostalgia BIG time. And it's great that younger gamers will get to experience the magic this game introduced us to, all those years ago, with smoother graphics that they're used to nowadays. Both visually and audibly speaking this is fantastic, love the updates all songs received, while preserving the soul the original had. But on the other hand, looking at the beautiful assets they can produce, the background and smooth gameplay, I can't help to be sad that this isn't a brand new experience. Most of the dialogue, skills, items and monsters.. they're all things we older players have already experienced. And it feels like it's a bit of a wasted opportunity. They could've done so much more, instead of tracing over an already done product. At the end of the day, it's a beautiful coat of paint in a celebrated classic. Wish it was more than that, but I'll take what I can get. Loving the playthrough and your boomer energy and excitement over it, Jared! Now imagine a randomizer on this game ~
the menus are far uglier than the original... and the difficulty scaling seems to be completely absent. enemies doing either 0 or 1 damage when you have 40 hp... it's kind of embarrassing that nintendo doesn't know how to make rpgs.
Wow. Missing out on great games for no good reason. A remake by definition is redoing the same game with graphical and soundtrack updates, but keeping the original story and premise intact. Expecting a new game out of a remake is silly. I am glad I can appreciate remakes like this and the pixel remasters. I wouldn't be able to enjoy life if I was that unpleasable. I suppose you are also a critic bomber that craps on good movies for no reason too.

Actually, the second one did, it uses Valor Up immediately after the first one is taken down (after the coin shower that is).
