Will you two address the brat in the room? Which is to say, you were being HATERS about Charli's brat rollout. I forget the episode but you made some commentary saying "who is this working for?" Well boys it's out and it's working for a lot of people!! Give Charli her flowers. 😤
Period!!!!!❤❤❤
relax. I too love me some Charlie, but the songs on this album simply arent going to be mainstream or even acknowledged 2 years from now by the majority of the public...let alone twenty years from now.
Charli hasn't had a US number one since Fancy. Calm down.
@@electrictwilight the girl, so confusing remix with Lorde went #1 on gay Twitter. And unlike the Billboard charts that is a metric that actually matters.
Popcast did on their podcast platform just not on youtube
Post Malone’s going to make a Fleet Foxes album one day
I think Sabrina has a chance at longevity if she keeps heading in the right direction. I was intrigued when she had her feather church video beef cos it was giving like vaguely religious controversy which feels very pop star but I’m slightly sceptical of her ability to sustain and build upon this current wave of fame, partially just cos of the cultural fragmentation, ns if it’s conducive to long term high levels of fame but we shall see…
the pause after baha men is my entire personality
Ah, the Taylor Swift NYT article. My favorite comment on that article went something like this: "Sure Taylor is the highest selling artist in a long while. Also, the Toyota Camry is the best selling car." I mean, can you get any bigger or more basically solid than a Toyota Camry?
BTS is in the military. Good points were made about the deflated zeitgeist, but this key point is important. Their absence has had a big domino effect on the Kpop hype dying down in a big way. Fans in the space can feel it and it’s a big topic of conversation within the Kpop industry. Album sales, views, traffic are down for the entire industry.
This is so interesting! It reminds me of times when one artist gets big with a new style of music and then other artists like them get a boost. But this is happening in reverse!
The government in Korea considered letting them skip conscription but it was considered politically infeasible. The drop in popularity of K-pop may be losing millions but if they let these men skip their duty there would be a huge political backlash that could cripple the government.
I am happy for Carpenter because I actually really like Espresso but her success right now is predicated on her releasing good music rather than her own personal stardom. When she does her own tour we’ll know if she is going to last.
She blew up at the EXACT moment she was featured on the Eras tour...hence why one of her old songs that no one cared about suddenly became trending. No one should be as famous and trending as she is on the basis of like 3 songs total. 3 mid songs at that....
Love yall 🎉🎉🎉
Have to put it out there that the first two songs they played on Love Island USA were Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter
I usually only listen to you guys with from Apple Podcast so I’m not sure if you guys even responds to these, but I just have a question. Beyoncé, Taylor, and Drake are seen as the main faces of superstardom today. I often hear you guys talk about Taylor and Drake more specifically, regarding to their standing in history, their evolution, their longevity and what exactly led to their longevity. I’m curious on how exactly Beyoncé has lasted as long as she has in y’alls eyes, especially given how she plays the single and promotional games to a lesser extent, or at least differently than the other two.
Sabrina Carpenter: I have a hit song and video, Espresso, and a new one, Pleasex3.
Weird Al Yankovic: Well played Sabrina. I got nothing to add.
Sabrina's 4 recent songs would have played on LA's Doctor Dimento show instead of Casey Kasum's AT40 show back in the day. I'm seated for this era, I hope the general public doesn't tire of her brand of self-aware humor/camp/comedy-pop too soon!
The Award arrived! Hooray 🥳🏆🤩
One of my all time fav episodes of deluxe (as a very long time listener) I thought bringing up Post made a lot of sense but to me the emblematic example is Doja. Controversial shape shifting bringing new people in the fold but also a traditionalist with broad appeal (also would devour the super bowl stage fwiw)
Has there ever been anyone who loves the sound of their own voice more than Jon Caramanica..honestly what a load of waffle
I think dua lipa headlining Glastonbury is a good case study for this. Of the current pop girls she had the biggest chance of being "legible" to the most people, but still fell a bit flat compared to Beyonce's headline from a few years ago, because the monoculture is now long dead, so she didn't have worldwide classics to act as tentpoles.
Joe is just so cute, he is definitely a rodent man
I really think Tommy Richman is gonna slide into the Justin Timberlake slot and then some. His singing ability is displayed prominently in his older catalogue. He's on a trajectory like no other artist in this century.
I fear the Grammys is gonna be a blood bath btw Sabrina and Chappell
And, Richman for that matter.
@@grungebox Sabrina Tommy benson Chappell all have to walk away with a Grammy this year it’s a must
@@fredamurphy7827yes!!
I genuinely don't understand the appeal of Chappell. Is it because she's trying to be Gaga??
@@KYLETISZAI of all the names listed above in this comment, CHAPPELL is the one you don't understand the appeal of?!?! Shes the ONLY remotely promising artist in that list. Considering you think shes copying Gaga, im presuming you haven't even heard her music. Try listening first.
Well boys, I love ur podcast but I think ur wrong ab this topic. Maybe in the US the perception is different but here in Spain people like Beyonce is a Madonna or a MJ, it´s the same feeling and vibe, maybe It does not show up on the charts due to culture differences but she was on television all the time when Cowboy Carter came out, and Taylor? That is CRAZY how people specially young girls and boys here are going crazy with her to the point where her music has charted here where we only have latin pop and latin music charting, she is a global pop star. On the other hand, I think ur also wrong ab not giving credit to Charli, she´s EVERYWHERE rn in terms of popularity specially for young people, the brat world and partying and raving theme is a topic that in Europe fits SO well cause culturally we love electronic music in every corner of this tiny place. U talk about regageton artists collaborating with english pop music artists and u already have that, 'Del Mar' by Ozuna with Sia and Doja that was a hit in latin music charts, but yeah, I expected that to happen in a bigger way too. I think u try to make eras like 'Teenage Dream' or '1989' to come back, and they still here, there´s small artists and independent artitst who are making this so called bubblegum pop, u got people like Mimi Webb, it´s just not the main theme in pop, or the main sound. There is global pop stars it´s just different as it used to be.
Chappell Roan, the Queen of Queer culture, playing the super bowl, the King of Straight culture, would be phenomenal!
The queen of queer culture? Because she dresses "similar" to that of a drag queen in order to gain attention and notoriety? Puhlease...
I'd be shocked if that happens.
And Charli’s album is more acclaimed so… McDonald’s sales a lot of burgers but that doesn’t mean anything. (I like Taylor but just saying) so your guys point about it being number 1 and laughing at charli is hilarious.
It's frankly like nitpicking which is better of the two - a pile of trash or a pile of excrement. Both are albums that no one will care about even 5 short years from now.
When I heard that you guys are from the New York Times, Makes sense from your comments. You have been hating on Taylor for a while in your out of date newspaper.
