The fight between Maul and Ahsoka was not only done in motion capture, but it was done with Ray Park as the physical actor for Maul, as in the guy who actually played him in Phantom Menace and who spearheaded the stunt work for that entire final lightsaber fight. I wouldn't be suprised if it was the same here.
That’s amazing 🤩
And the woman who mocapped Ashoka in that fight, Lauren Mary Kim, is the also the one who did The Armorer's fight scenes in The Mandalorian
It’s such a great fight, you can feel the brute force of his steps and hits.
If I’m not mistaken, they actually had to SLOW DOWN the fight because the motion capture couldn’t keep up
@@WorldWeaveThey also had to slow down the Maul vs Kenobi fight footage at the end of phantom menace, cause the cameras couldn’t keep up.
I think what makes Maul so amazing is his voice. Because anything he say you can feel the intensity of his seriousness or anger.
Yes. The voice is fantastic! 🤩
Or madness. We know he is not completely mad, but he's not that far from madness in a way, and it's easy to understand why Ashoka thinks it's just madness, when it's the truth.
There is so much fear in Maul’s voice which makes him sound crazy but we all know he’s right
Sam witwer is so fucking good. "WE'RE ALL GOING TO BURN. WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE"
And it’s haunting since most of the audience knows…he’s RIGHT
Yeah, but he was terrified at doing Maul in the beginning, didn’t think he could do it, Dave just asked him “I need darth maul, can you do it?”, and as any real actor does, Sam just said yes, and dealt with it afterwards.
"You're All Going To BURN! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!" You can just Feel the Fear in his voice there, Sam Witwer killing it as always, and amazing motion capture from Ray Park(who played Maul in the Phantom Menace). And I just love how they're placing this in regards to the events from the movie, with Kenobi's update of events, Anakin killing Dooku, and Kenobi about to pursue Gervious, and of course Maul foreseeing "The Moment"
Ahsoka went from barely holding her own against Grievous to taking out the former Sith Maul. She has come a long way
Ага, ещё бы протеже Филони проиграло
Ahsoka nevet won in a öightsaber duel. Again it was Mauls arrogance
😎💪
Gotta say I love the look of shocked realization that we are getting close to order 66 is priceless
We're halfway through the final arc! This episode is absolutely top tier Star Wars and I'm so glad to see you guys enjoyed it as much as I did when I first saw it. That scene with Maul and Ahsoka in the throne room is one of my all time favorite moments in all of Star Wars. The speech Maul gives about the Jedi and the Republic and what's going to happen is pure gold, an absolute masterclass of acting with Sam Witwer's performance. That fight is also one of the best in the franchise, all of it is mocap with stunt people. Ahsoka's mocap was done by actress Lauren Mary Kim, who also performed stunt work for several characters in The Mandalorian, and Maul's was done by none other than Ray Park, the actor who physically portrayed him in The Phantom Menace (his lines were dubbed over by actor Peter Serafinowicz) and performed all of Maul's fight choreography and stunts in the film. Ok, enough of me gushing over the episode, let's move on to today's fun facts.
The first episode of the arc was right on the edge of Revenge of the Sith territory, but with this one we are definitely running concurrently with the movie, with Obi-Wan's conversation with Ahsoka and Bo-Katan confirming that Count Dooku is dead and the Battle of Coruscant has concluded. We also get a mention of Anakin's mission to "observe" the Chancellor, which Ahsoka rightly calls out as spying, something that goes against what the Jedi claim to stand for. I really love that Obi-Wan admits that the Council isn't always right, it shows that he has at least some self awareness, but he's too caught up in the dogma that the rest of the Jedi are blinded by. We get to see our friend Jesse (CT-5597) in a speaking role again, unfortunately he's been captured by Maul, who uses the Force to extract information from his mind. We also saw Gar Saxon get instructions from Maul to kill Almec to "ensure that he doesn't become an asset to their enemy. I don't think I mentioned this last episode, but Saxon is voiced by the late great actor Ray Stevenson, who voiced him in his other appearances and also portrayed the character Baylan Skoll in the Ahsoka series. He sadly passed away unexpectedly last year a few months before the Ahsoka series premiered.
Saxon is, of course, successful in his mission which means that this episode is Almec's final appearance. But, before he dies, he reveals that Maul was wanting Anakin to show up along with Obi-Wan, mentioning that Maul had been consumed by a deep sense of dread for some time. We get that amazing chase scene as Bo-Katan goes after Saxon, catching up to him in an elevator shaft. But Bo-Katan is unfortunately caught under the descending turbolift, leading to that amazing scene of her using her jetpack to slow down and eventually stop the lift near the bottom of the elevator shaft. Unfortunately, this damages her jetpack and prevents her from pursuing the fleeing Saxon, who returns to Maul. When he gets back, Maul is finishing a conversation with the heads of the syndicates of his Shadow Collective. We get to see Marg Krim of the Pykes, who we met is the last arc with the Martez sisters, Ziton Moj of the Black Sun, who we met back in the initial arc where the Collective was formed in season 5, and the first and only appearance of Dryden Vos, the public head of the Crimson Dawn who was first introduced in Solo: A Star Wars Story where he was played by actor Paul Bettany (who you might know from the MCU movies where he played Vision). I already mentioned that Ray Park reprised his role as Maul for the mocap work in Ahsoka's fight with Maul. The conversation between Maul and Ahsoka pretty much lays out Palpatine's plan of starting the war, playing both sides, and grooming and manipulating Anakin into being his apprentice, but Ahsoka doesn't believe him. It's frustrating to see, because we know Maul is right, but the other movies have to happen so we know that Palpatine's plan can't be exposed; they do such a good job with the writing that it's easy to forget that we know what's going to happen and that the Jedi can't win. This last one isn't really a fun fact, but I would just like to give Sam Witwer some more props for his performance when Maul is captured at the end of the episode. You can absolutely hear the pure terror for what's about to happen in his voice.
Well, that's all I've got for today. I'm glad you guys are loving the arc so far, because it only gets better from here. I'll see you guys on Thursday for episode 11, "Shattered." 😄
Agreed. Throne room scene was epic and one of our favorite moments as well 🤩😍
Fun fact #1: They used motion-capture to shoot reference footage for Ahsoka's and Maul's duel. Ahsoka's fight coreography was performed by Lauren Mary Kim, while Maul's was done by Ray Park himself.
#2: Maul has attached another red lightsaber with a different-looking hilt to the remaining half of his original lightsaber, making his weapon double-bladed once again. The hilt for the new half of his saberstaff happens to be based on concept art for Asajj Ventress' new lightsaber used in the unfinished animatics from the Dark Disciple arc of The Clone Wars (later adapted into the novel of the same name).
#3:Maul mentions how Saxon and Kast liberated him from Sidious's prison, and how he thought Dooku was an old fool, when they last met, both of which were depicted in the comic miniseries Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir, also based upon unproduced episodes. Also the shown Syndicate are Dryden Vos from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Marg Krim from the previous arc, and Ziton Moj of the Black Sun, whom he and Savage recruited back in Season 5.
#4:Ahsoka, Rex, and Bo-Katan enter the throne room, while discussing the clone occupation, only to find Maul already sitting there on his throne, prompting Bo-Katan to open fire immediately, which he deflects using the Force, mirroing Han, Leia and Chewie's capture by Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back. Furthermore, both Maul and Vader has a Jango Fett clone by their side, albeit in differnt positions: Jessie is Maul's prisoner, while Boba was the one who led Vader to Cloud City.
#5:When the heroes question Almec, he let's it slip to them that Maul was not just after Kenobi, but someone named "Skywalker". This can be seen as a parallel to Lando telling Han, Leia and Chewie that Vader's not interested in them, but he's after some "Skywalker". Since Almec dies in the scene, it also doubles as a reference to Yoda's death, who's last words were "There is another Skywalker".
#6: There's a delicious bit of dramatic irony, in that Maul describing Anakin's career as "long since he's been groomed to be my master's new apprentice", echoes Ahsoka's own description of Palpatine as a "great friend and mentor to Anakin", earlier in the episode, and it's enitrely lost to her.
Love the parallels that are always showing up and thanks for pointing them out 😀
Now is the time to watch Revenge of the Sith before the last two episodes. There are super cuts of ROTS and The Seige of Mandalore on RUclips. Easy to find.
We’ve already finished and actually do discuss if there are cuts of the movie and this arc all put together. We will hav slut ROTS reaction after Clone Wars ends. 😅
I love the delivery of Sam Witwer with all fo the Maul speeches. And watch for his easter egg next episode Maul does something very similar to Starkiller from Force Unleashed.
9:40 It's interesting how Maul told the truth here just like when Dooku told Obi-Wan on Geonosis in Episode 2
It's also a ploy of seeking help from a strong force user to use as an apprentice. Dooku had plans for Ventress to help him defeat Sidious. Maul had the same intentions for Ahsoka. We see this action again in the future but I won't even begin to discuss it as it will be a huge spoiler.
The crazy thing is, Maul was absolutely right about just about everything. Sure, maybe with Sidious gone he would of taken his place. But that would of been a vacation compared to the next 30 years of the Empire.
Oh boy, next week…
This is, in my opinion, the best episode of all of the Clone Wars. Filoni took a piece of furniture like Maul and turned him into an incredibly complex and fascinating character. The meeting between Maul and Ahsoka is fantastic because it is a rare case where the villain knows the truth and the hero is in the wrong.... and this is probably the best light sabre duel in all of Star Wars!
When obi wan says anakin killed Dooku you know things are getting real. There are some hints to the time frame before then, and the episode is incredible on its own merit, but realizing this is all happening during RotS and the overall sense of dread (and maybe a little excitement lol) that brings really puts things in a different perspective
And hearing that within the context of Clone Wars, when he's been such a major threat throughout... It's almost frightening how well Clone Wars' finale dovetails. After redeeming the prequels into something worthwhile, they stick the landing and immortalize alongside some otherwise goofy friggin' movies... They managed to give that silly grab-bag of cornball misguided edge some MEANING, and pathos.
One of the best fight scenes in all of Star Wars!!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Facts 😎🤘🤩
Your Clone Wars journey has been so fun to watch, your reactions, your predictions what will happen in an arc here and there and the things you guys discus at the end of the episodes are just so interesting and fun. Like it just brings me back to when I watched the show for the first time.
This is it....
It's coming....
Gods that fight between Ahsoka and Maul is so cool! Ahsoka is my favorite Star Wars character and ever since that double-bladed lightsaber reveal in Phantom Menace I thought Darth Maul was super cool!
The scenery, music, choreography. 🤌
Obi Wan bringing up the events that are currently going on in Revenge of the Sith really builds up the tension and dread of what's about to happen. The countdown is nearing it's end, and soon darkness will fall on our beloved characters...
Everything you have been watching has been leading to this moment.
Also the jedi seriously couldn't spare one Jedi to go help Ahsoka. Shaak Ti was available and chilling at the temple. They didn't learn from their mistakes in episode 1 where they sent just Qui Gon and padawan Obi-wan to confront the first sith they had seen in 1000 years
Two more episodes left, it’s been fun rewatching the series, for my personal 10th-15th time, but with you guys this time. It’s been super fun with you guys! Hoping to catch rebels and bad batch with you guys as well!
There are actually TWO more episodes. The final season had 12 episodes.
Yeah it was weird when we looked at the Disney app it said 11 episodes instead of 12 🤗
Disney deciding to greenlight Season 7 after Lucas had stopped so was such a delicious treat for us when it first came out.
This was also one of, of not the first time we got motion captured fights - they are so good. You can really see Ray's iconic Maul footwork from Phantom Menace making a come back here. Him in the Mo-Cap with Sam's now iconic vlice work is peak Maul!
Ahsoka loses the duel but wins the fight the Jedi way. Oh Filoni you magnificent SOB.
not to worry the next episode actually has a scene from revenge of the Sith so you'll know when it is exactly.. look for the scene, it's just done from a slightly different perspective like this scene continues in the movie it cut short.
We all know that maul was not trying to kill her and since ahsoka is a fan favorite of course she have plot armor but those like me who knows maul is stronger then her so the writers make sure maul will survive and not be beaten by plot
2:42 Emperor's theme. Chilling.
If only Ahsoka joined Maul. This all could've been prevented.
What does maul mean Anakin is they key to everything since he is dooku replacement
@@preciousotoakhia9789 that was hard to read. :/
Also, I don't see how it relates to my comment.
The "what if" of what would have happened if Ashoka had teamed up with Maul even a little bit is enticing. She would never kill Anakin but she could trick him into thinking she might. Maul is a bad negotiator
All of this, all of the fighting, is all for nothing.
2:04 I don't understand this. If the Jedi council knows there is this Sith Lord lurking within as what Qui-Gon Jinn had tried to warn them before his death, why couldn't they discover if someone else can be a Sith Lord within the Republic, like a parasite who knows all and drains all?
Great fight scene, great voice acting, just a great freakin episode!~
In a weird way maul was one hundred percent right.
this arc is in the same time of star wars episode 3 revenge of the sith
It's an amazing ride from this point forward.
that fight they did in full mo cap and ray parker did all of maul
And now the real game begins 😈
I hope after you finish the series, y'all can watch this really great fan animation of Anakin vs Obi-Wan in the style of the Clone Wars.
the clock counts down.
9:50 Let the battle begin! 🙏🏽💪
Nice. It’s nice to see both of your reactions to this fun battle. Personally I consider Darth Maul my favorite Star Wars villain
Welp, I can't wait for your Revenge of the Sith reaction now
Ahsoka was lucky Maul was severely injured from Palpatine torturing him
If it was prime Maul, Ahsoka wouldn't even made it past 10 seconds against him
Dooku: what if I told you the senate is under the control of the sith
Obi Wan: ok boomer
Dooku: does not elaborate, continues to spin like a kebap
Maul: Join me and toghether we can stop this
Ahsoka: what do you plan to do with Anakin Skywalker
Maul: gives one of the two possibly worst answers
Dookus problem is that hes all mysterious all the time, meanwhile Maul will not shut up😂
Maul is so freaking cool
As much as I loved the duel, I still dislike how much they weakened Maul, he's a Sith Lord trained by Sidious since childhood, the fight should have been more one sided.
It wasn't that they weakened him, its just that ahsoka was trained by the best. He had a chance to beat her if he could but she outsmarted.
@@SalikCollins She was trained for two and a half years, Maul was trained for 8 by Sidious it shouldn't have been close.
@@thealmightypancakeface9585 I agree with you we all know maul would have destroyed ahsoka but she is a fan favorite and have plot armor
@@thealmightypancakeface9585 also palpatine is like one of the strongest sith and have been raising maul and training him so idk why the other person above you comment said that she was train by the best because Anakin is her master but that guy literally forgot that maul was trained by the best sith
@@TakakiM-sr1df Power scaling is all over the place nowadays in Star Wars.
The next episode is AMAZING! Quick! Watch it and upload your viewing! Let's talk!!!!!!!!
The GOOD STUFF!
They dont know what´s going to happen. i feel pitty for them. They are on the Wrong side. Look how happy they look, it will fall from this "☺" to this "😧😪". 😂😂
Ohhhhh, WHAT FUN!!!!!
The more they succeed the more they fail.
Will you guys be reacting to The Tales of the Jedi before or after the first season of the Bad Batch?
Bad Batch and Rebels... Oh boy...
I think you watch revenge of the Sith before the next episode and then the last two episodes.
3:08 🙏🏽💪
I really hope you guys are gonna do rebels it is so good there are so much more content out there to enrich the Star Wars universe
2:18 👀💪
I can’t wait to see you guys react to The Bad Batch
To be fair darth maul was neve as strong as he was simce episode 1. If it was a full powered maul ashoka would of had a harder time.
when you are done with clone wars react to star wars rebels
Omg! I can't say anything but omg! No spoilers. Season 7 is just peak clone wars for me. I'm so excited for where you guys are heading into now! Ok. I'm done being hyped.
Bad bach series timeline after revansch off the sith. Star wars rebels series
Mah, they should do rebels and than bad batch after revenge of the sith.
She didn’t defeat him he lost his footing, he literally disarmed her like 3 times while not trying to kill her, the need for a girl boss moment make y’all blind
Bo katan need to fight maul for the right yo the throne of mandolor but technically she need to fight palpatine.
I hate bo she is such a hypocrite
Maul is by far the worst sith, he gets his ass handed to him by pretty much any force user, hell even pri visla gave him a hard time, kinda shows how bad of a jedi qui-gon jinn was.
He refrained from using the force against Vizla to gain favor from his mandos. TCW weakened Maul, according to Lucas he should've been as powerful as Vader, but Filoni loves Ahsoka too much. Original she didn't even beat Maul, she had the clones to trap him.
Zac it because of plot armor obi and other Jedi need to be in revenge of the sith and ahsoka is a fan favorite and have plot armor maul is stronger it just that he was writing by the writers so stop blaming the actor stop blaming maul blame the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 writers for making maul lose even when he a lot stronger
And Zac you are the worst bottom of the food chain maul, me and all other sith will destroy you
@@thealmightypancakeface9585 agree 👍💯
@@thealmightypancakeface9585 I'm glad you understand since these dumb people won't ever understand
Even with all of the content we've gotten from the various miniseries, the Ahsoka/Maul lightsaber duel is still my favorite one in the entire IP. And honestly, Maul is in all of my top 3 (This, Twin Suns, and Episode 1). Don't look up Twin Suns, spoilers.
Please watch Rebels after clone wars, there is some of the best Star Wars Ive ever seen
