    My baby refuses to sleep in bassinet or swing from day one. I tried various method to make him sleep in swing,but he wakes up after 5 mins crying. He comfortably sleeps next to me. He is only 1 month old. I don't know how to make him sleep in swing.

    Is ok to put a 1 month old newborn in a cot when drowsy to get them to sleep (I know this is the ideal down the line) or is it ok if they fall asleep on you then you put them in?

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  Год назад

      In the Helping Babies Sleep Method the goal is to put them down calm but awake vs drowsy so they learn to associate sleep in the bassinet vs in arms. As they get older the transfer becomes harder and you get stuck. There's no right or wrong way to do this but if you want to be proactively working on avoiding common parenting pitfalls you work on falling asleep in the bassinet. I have a 2mo who won't nap in the crib (at night she fights it and wakes up many times but sleeps in it for the most part). She has reflux (mild) and is very (very) gassy. When you say pick up and calm down then put down again, how many times do you consider reasonable before finally doing something to make them sleep? In the mornings I spend maybe 1.5 hours picking her up and calming her down (she stays in the crib for 3 minutes then starts crying and takes me 10/15 min to calm her down). She will not fall asleep on her own so in the end, after 1.5 hours I finally put her in the carrier so she sleeps otherwise she'll get overtired. Any tips?

      You need to figure out the root of the gas. When kids are uncomfortable they resist the crib as they seek the comfort of their caregiver. Causes of gas could be improper latch to a breast or a bottle - so investigate that. If breastfeeding, foods that you might be eating that aggravate the gas. It sounds like the issue isn't the put down pick up, it's that she's uncomfortable. In general I try for about 20 minutes before resorting to another method.

    Hi, my baby is 10 months
    He is ok sleeping in the crib at daytime he does wakes up once i try make him sleep again be holding him amd then put back in the cot
    But at night time he wants to sleep with me , even if i put him back in the cot he will wake up after an hour amd this woll happen all night😔

      Sleep is a learned habit. So he's learned if he fusses that he can sleep with you and that's what he prefers. He likely won't change without you changing the way you respond unfortunately. You just have to assess if this is working for you.

    In my case my baby(2 month old) sleeps perfectly fine in his crib in the day time. 2 to 3 days in a row wen he wasn't feeling too well n I was worried about him I put him to sleep next to me in the night n he dosed off while nursing. From the 4th day he did not want to sleep in the crib in the night. But in the day I don't even have to rock him to sleep or try any kind of methods to put him to sleep. Just swaddle n he knows its sleeping time. In the night wen I try swaddling he starts to cry immediately. So he doesn't have a problem with the crib but may be got into a habit of sleeping in my arms?

      He might be crying at night because he's overtired. Check the timing of sleep and then keep trying. You know he's capable of it.

    My baby has never sleeps with my and my husband. She started in a bassinet and at 8 months we transferred her to her crib in her own room. She did great. She is now 1 year old one month and for the last week she has been crying wanting to sleep with us. She does not want to sleep in her crib what so ever. Do you know why this could be or have any advice?

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  3 года назад

      Hi Sabina, She's 13 months... at this age it's extremely common for toddlers to start expressing opinions and "see what comes back." IE: testing boundaries. The only other thing to check is if she's uncomfortable due to 1 year molars appearing.

    How do you put a 19 month old toddler to sleep in a Stokke cot bed?

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  3 года назад

      Just like you would a crib. Ideally you can keep your child in a crib until 2.5 years of age. If they are climbing out, put them in a sleep sack to prevent them from climbing over.

    Oh no! My baby is past the 4-8 week period. Would it be difficult for him to learn to sleep in the crib?

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  2 года назад

      Moving to a crib usually isn't a challenge if they have been sleeping in a bassinet. If only sleeping while being held, could be a challenge.

    I am babysitting a 6month old who apparently started taking 27min naps at 6weeks and i can get him to sleep for an hour 30 in my arms. He wakes up happier and is much less cranky. They swaddle him and leave one arm out in the swaddle. Any tips because the parents thought it would just fix itself

      No quick tips unfortunately since the way we sleep is learned. Sounds like he has a preference for sleeping in arms. I do teach how to undo this in my book The Helping Babies Sleep Method; The Art and Science of Teaching Your Baby to Sleep on amazon today! www.amazon.com/Helping-Babies-Sleep-Method-Teaching-ebook/dp/B08WQ2J8MZ/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=the+helping+babies+sleep+method&qid=1613612805&s=books&sr=1-2

    My daughter is 7 months. I've been trying to get her to sleep in the crib for over a month now. She'll sleep an hour and wake up and when I put her back to sleep it's like she knows I'm putting her back in the crib and will wake herself up until I lay down with her

      The drive to sleep is biological, the way we sleep is a learned habit. I want you to know this is incredibly common. Everyone expereinces this at one point. Often around 7-8 months, what "was" working... starts to "wear off" or be less effective. Here's the thing, If she falls asleep in arms and is put in the crib, when she wakes up, which all humans do, she's surprised at her location and cries to recreate the conditions that led her to fall asleep in the first place. It's preference and habit. She thinks she can't, or prefers, to be in your arms/have you beside her. Does that make sense?
      I go into detail and how to change that in my book on amazon. 'The Helping Babies Sleep Method.'

    My baby girl would sleep perfectly in the cot. She would have 3 2 hour naps and would go to sleep at 7pm and wake to feed every 3-4 hours until awake at 6am. She turned three months and one week and she all of a sudden would scream when we tried to put her down and would wake every 20 to 30 minutes. I tried and tried but she just won't go back down and then I got sick and we had to sleep her on me for a couple of nights and now I can't get her to sleep anywhere but on me. I did the put her down and tried to resettle her when she would scream but she got so bad that I have to pick her up to calm her and then as soon as she is down screams. After an hour or so her face is rashy and swollen and really upset and I'm exhausted and I cave and let her sleep on me. Everything says to persevere but it doesn't work no matter how long I keep going for.

      She's still a little too young for self soothing iMO - it does sound like she hit the 4 mo sleep regression, which can happen as early as 3.5 months.
