    I live in the UK and have just bought a couple of cheap simple recurve bows for my children to use in our garden. I have been racking my brain on how to build a decent backstop and this is the perfect solution! Thankyou.

    Just built one, it works great. I shot an Easton Axis at 20 yards with my Bowteh Realm SS (smoking fast bow) and the stall mat stoped the arrow. It went half way through but did it’s job. Best backstop ever, thanks again.

    Great video! It helped me make a similar backstop for my kids and I to use in our backyard. Getting the rubber mat from tractor supply saved us a ton of money over commercial backstops.

      Thank you! I totally agree. Commercial backstops are outrageously expensive. That mat has stopped arrows from my 70lb bow at 10 yards.

      @@MichiganAmBushOutdoors did it destroy the arrow?

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  4 года назад +3

      If you are shooting a FMJ, it could possibly bend the arrow but if you’re shooting carbon arrows you have nothing to worry about.

      These are cheap and amazing. I'm getting ready to build a few more myself.
      Thanks for watching.

    Exactly what I'm looking for. I might experiment with layering some tarp on it to see if it reduces penetration. Curious to see what happens.

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  4 года назад +1

      I am as well. They don’t typically penetrate too far but when then do, make sure you have an arrow puller.
      Keep me posted how the tarp works out.

    I did one like this last year. It really does encourage hitting the target. Not fun to remove arrows.

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  4 года назад +2

      I agree. Pulling arrows is a pain but it’s better than pulling them from the garage wall 😂

    Can you do an arrow test on the backdrop to see what happens??

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  3 года назад +4

      I could but, it’s you’ll just see the arrow stop and me struggle to get it out 😂😂.
      I shoot a Mathews VXR with 75lb pull with a 27.5 in draw Leanth and it stops my 475 grain arrows flying at 275fps no problem.

      Thanks for the tips! I’ve got a 35 yard lane on the side of my house that I can shoot down but my $10k hot tub is at the end of the lane. I might double layer the horse stall mats 😂

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  Год назад

      A single layer will stop that arrow. With two layers, you might not get that arrow back.

  • @gemfaceter

    I made one out of the same material stops the arrows real good the only draw back is the arrows are real hard to pull out but it will make you want to hit the target.

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I figured it will be hard to get them out but at least it does it’s job.

    Curious if something like this would stop an arrow from a bow with 70lbs draw

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      Yes. 100% I still use this backstop and it’s stop plenty of arrows. My bow is 70lbs

  • @jamesblack1204
    @jamesblack1204 Год назад +1

    Would this work for broad heads too? I have been wanting to find something that I can use my bow with.

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  Год назад

      I've never personally shot one in it, but I would bet it stops it. It might mess the BH up.

    Do you think it can handle being outdoors?

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  3 года назад

      Most definitely. I leave it in my garage year-round. I've seen some people even build rooftops over them to keep the rain and snow off it.

    What type of bolts did you use??

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  3 года назад

      To be honest, I’m not a 100% sure it’s been so long. I’m pretty sure I used whatever I had laying around the garage.

    Mind sending me the dimensions of this? Also, did you ever put the wheels on?

    • @MichiganAmBushOutdoors
      @MichiganAmBushOutdoors  Год назад +1

      Boards
      - 3 cut to 69” (two top, one bottom)
      - 2 cut to 48” (side boards)
      - 4 cut to 14” (brace board so leave a little extra room to cut the angle)
      -note: all boards were cut to a 45 degree angle
      - 2 cut to 27 3-8” ( footers)
      Material
      - 4 caster wheels from harbor freight (personal preference)
      -28: 3” deck screws
      - 16: 1 1/2” wood screws (for the caster wheels.
      I did end up putting wheels on it.
