I was in Secondary school at Seme back then and I loved listening to Jakaranda fm. Mostly our systems were playing cassettes and I had to stay on radio to hear them. Everyday at school from 1998 until 2002 I am sure the days I was early are less than 10 in the whole 5 years. But pop music and Jakaranda helped me understand English and even words that are not said.

So there I was, 14 years old and alone in my room listening to the radio when this song began to play. I knew I was different and I knew it wasn’t okay, with my family or my church. I had nobody to encourage me or tell me that I wasn’t broken. The world, my world was so different back then. Then these lyrics sang out, “if only tears were laughter, if only night was day, if only prayers were answered then we would hear God say, No matter what they tell you, no matter what they do, no matter what they teach you, what you believe is true.” and I had some sense of hope that one day I wouldn’t be alone and God would still love me. “What I believed was true” was that I wasn’t broken and that who I loved didn’t make me any less worthy of Gods love. This song gave me something to hold onto when I was all by myself and it will always be special to me. 🌈Listening again in 2020, 22 years later.

So there I was, 14 years old and alone in my room listening to the radio when this song began to play. I knew I was different and I knew it wasn’t okay, with my family or my church. I had nobody to encourage me or tell me that I wasn’t broken. The world, my world was so different back then.
Then these lyrics sang out, “if only tears were laughter, if only night was day, if only prayers were answered then we would hear God say, No matter what they tell you, no matter what they do, no matter what they teach you, what you believe is true.” and I had some sense of hope that one day I wouldn’t be alone and God would still love me.
“What I believed was true” was that I wasn’t broken and that who I loved didn’t make me any less worthy of Gods love. This song gave me something to hold onto when I was all by myself and it will always be special to me.
🌈Listening again in 2020, 22 years later.

I grew up listening to Boyzone. My mother bought me the C.D. none of my friends knew of them they weren't very popular in the U.S. but I loved them. Now as an adult I still love them just such beautiful lead vocals, Ronan & Stephen were amazing together. So sad the sky lost a very beautiful bright star R.I.P Stephen
