one of the best fishing videos I've seen in a long time..👍 one of my best friends just moved down to Florida I'm definitely going to visit this summer and go hunt some of these monsters
If the water is muddy fish see black and chartreuse better than most other colors. Sweet video though, and I liked yalls point about how nobody focuses on the other invasive species. Let's get rid of the ones that aren't fun to catch before we get rid of drag pullers
***** Joe, totally agree about time on water. We take our fly rods everywhere. I will stand on my statement about the vast number of ruined waters due to the wrong people getting a bad idea. Perhaps we are more sensitive to this since so many trout waters have been ruined by buckets of the wrong fish. Cheers!
Bass and snakeheads are coexisting just fine here in South Florida. Plenty of both to catch here. They are not having the impact originally thought, thus it is legal to release snakeheads where caught.
Absolutely respect what you are saying. I think it's hard to convey a full statement about these fish in a short angling segment, so I understand if it comes across as a bit more knowing that it should. The point I was trying to make was not that they are somehow good or totally harmless, but simply that they are most definitely here to stay and it would be smarter to learn how to effectively manage them rather than demonize them outright. It's also important to distinguish the types of ecosystems that are impacted, because it makes a HUGE difference when it comes to the level of damage these fish can cause. Growing up in the midwest and Colorado, I am very familiar with the level of destruction that even a minor predator can make on a fragile, cold water or self-contained fishery. That protective attitude is a good one to have, but it's very important to understand how vastly different the waterways of south Florida are than a stream or natural lake system. Snakeheads are nowhere near the most prolific or damaging invasive species down here, but they seem to get all of the bad press. I think it would be smart to bring attention to some of the others, and maybe attempt to better understand snakeheads before pinning them as the most evil fish around.
Small Craft Advisory Fishing Thanks for that. These topics are slippery slopes and the extremely subtle aspects of various systems will render different results in each stream system. Perhaps the easy answer to a extremely complex topic is "we often learn what went wrong after the damage has happened". We are humans messing with nearly infinitely complex places. That is why we most often learn *after* a mistake. The crystal ball is very murky in these cases even if we have a lot of *local* evidence about a situation. The problem with this and other invasive species is what happens at the edges of the invasion instead of the seemingly benign situation in the center of the range. To be more clear, I am speaking from a perspective of pure science, not from any position of emotional "environmentalism". The luxury we have in our work is our ability to select predator sports fish to stock where we have already figured out how to get rid of them if necessary before we even create the habitat. Unfortunately public waters lack this luxury. Cheers!
One of the most highly sought for species in Singapore. Hard to find them, but once you do, it'll give you a hell of a fight! Fav freshwater species hands down 👍🏻
I love snakehead species and their strength that i can feel over my tackle when they fights,.. u guys should try and catch the mother of this fish, the giant snakehead here in asia. this one will give you crazy goose bump all over your body, they always fights with enormous power and never go easy to give up, grab and turn lures at lightning speed left and right, you'll definitely crazy about it. btw, i love your video. Greetings from Indonesia..!
Damn man I wish I was more into fishing when I was in my late teens bc I went to Florida for a few weeks every single August and didn’t really have any saltwater gear but I knew where a bunch of ponds and canals were so if I could go back I’d be snakehead and peacock bass fishing every time lol
Great video! Glad you had fun down here in South Florida catching my favorite fish. How big was the biggest one caught those two days? If you ever make it down again for snakes (peas or bass for that matter), look up Chris Licato (we call him Swampy), he is a fishing legend down here (does guides and will hook you up on some big snakeheads or peas)....you can check him out on facebook at his own page or on the Exotic Rush page. Hope you practiced catch and release!
actually black is easiest seen by fish from everything I have read on color ! I could be mistaken but here's a better idea maybe use a fluorocarbon leader attatched to your main line usung a double uni or an fg knot !
I CLEARLY saw a couple of mudfish there! Mudfish/bowfin whatever you want to call them. I think its important for people to know the difference especially if they are going to throw them on the bank or kill them. Mudfish are native!!! Please dont disrespect the native fish. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!
I catch and release all my Northern Snakeheads since I live in Virginia we are allowed to catch and release and if you ever want big Northern Snakeheads fish the Aquia Creek in stafford Virginia my biggest so far is 16lbs and that's from fishing from the bank I catch 50 plus a year with the limited times I get to go out best fishing there is in my books
Thanks for letting Kevin and Capt Brett give their insights on whats good for an entire ecosystem.
Hook Shots! Best fishing show there is, far better than anything on TV.
Chew on this is a good fishing show
I used to watch Babe Winkleman's Good Fishing

5:11 A huge reason we see so much damage to our fisheries: fishermen playing biologist. It's always more complex than you first think..

kept the snakheads right???
They killed them I thinki
No need to.
were you releasing them or killing them since there invasive?
state of Florida says to not release excellent eating fish
They're normally released unless they're going to be eaten
@@harryhall6336 wrong, perfectly legal to release them where caught.
I literally wait like a crackhead for my damn hook shots you guys are the reason I'm Becoming a fly fishing guide
There so much better place then markham park for snake heads. Great Video as always though!
Nice bro your good anglers
Hook shots is life

nice video.. guys try hunt giant snakehead a.k.a toman we call at Malaysia

Labrat Gil there are zero bowfin in this video
No need to kill the snakeheads either, unless you plan to eat them.
funny how everyone complains of invasive species ,yet they are having a good time hunting it
Can you eat those?
Given that rainbow and brown trout are far more destructive to native species yet aren’t hated, there is a major case of double standards going in.
Surprised you didn't throw pike fly gear at them. Anyone have any success with large poppers? Surely you would need a pike wire leader.
Had me laughing through this whole video
snakeheads taste soooo good I rather eat snakeheads then bass all day
Come on back to VA and get the big northerns with us!
As blood runs black 😎
did you kill them
No need to.

Hook shotssssssssssss yasssssss!!!!
Funny to see the places I fish in a video
So did you kill these snakeheads?! Cuz I know in the Potomac you can release them now due to there not being much damage to the ecosystem.
Insert a knife into the cranium .
Most people in Florida release Snakeheads because we've realized they don't do shit.
Snakeheads are still invasive.
Isn't chick fillet a snake head sandwich??
You need custom baits.
G Rosa apparently they don't.
But the snakeheads are still invasive
God the music sucks
Hook shotssssssssssss yasssssss!!!!
