- 50 years since steam last ran on the Looe Valley Line in Cornwall, it was to once again repeat itself. During September 19th and 26th Vintage Trains along with West Coast Railways and First Great Western ran steam shuttles along the Looe branch, to celebrate 150 years since its opening and the 175th anniversary of the GWR. Hawksworth Pannier tank 9466 ran the shuttles as well as two runs to Plymouth.
For this rare event my main objective was to capture as much detail of the shuttle runs as possible, going to various excellent spots along the 8 mile line. The beginning shot was taken on the 19th but the rest was taken on the 26th. Much of the sound was done in mono as it had been windy and didn't want it to ruin the soundtrack.
Locations were shot at:
Looe estuary
Terras Crossing
Sandplace
Trewidland
Causeland Station
After the Looe Branch shuttles the Pannier ran the Royal Albert charter back to Plymouth, the final sequence takes place at Liskeard bridge my usual favoruite spot to get steam.
With special thanks to David Oldham who drove me to my spots, my car having been out of service.
To a certain "Mrs Smith" (alias the blonde maid at Liskeard bridge) this is the film your in at the end and nearly tried to ruin. I hope you appriciate the films I've made if you see this.
