    Something being slept on about the new Roland machines is the ability to run power, midi and audio through 1 USB cable. You can stem out all channels on the tr8s/6s. The sh4d is a powerful 4 part synth 1 part drum machine and can also utilize 1 usb cable for everything.

      I wrote a long reply to this video detailing all my experience with Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Mercari, Reverb, eBay and Guitar Center, with tips for each, and bloody YT has sent it into the void. But yes, wanted to say Reverb is great, customer service is the best in the business, best selection of gear, and they do NOT add buyer fees; don't know where Liam gets that nonsense from (OTOH Mercari - which is infested with scam sellers - does).

  • @scheelio
    @scheelio 3 месяца назад +6

    Reverb only charges selling fees to the seller, not the buyer. Sales tax is gathered from the buyer and remitted to the state by Reverb on behalf of the seller, but there is no additional “fee” charged to the buyer.

    • @LiamKillen
      @LiamKillen  3 месяца назад +2

      A tax is a fee, no? Their system taxes buyers on new and used items … plus shipping fees.
      Buying local eliminates all of that is my point.

    • @scheelio
      @scheelio 3 месяца назад

      @@LiamKillen Sorry if this is a double post -- I think my original reply may have gotten taken down since I put a link in it.
      Sales tax is a tax mandated by the state where the buyer resides (at least in the US). Buying local does not make the buyer/seller immune to having to pay that tax. You are actually breaking the state's tax laws by not remitting sales tax on that transaction. It's just highly unlikely you will be charged with tax evasion for a handshake cash deal made in an Arby's parking lot.
      Reverb is required, by law, to collect and remit sales tax, since it is a marketplace. It is not a fee that benefits Reverb in any way -- they are just the intermediary between the seller at the state. I believe the reason Facebook, Craigslist, etc. don't have the same requirement is because they don't process payments. Reverb has some decent articles explaining why sales tax is being collected.
      I do understand your point that it does cost you more buying on Reverb. I just don't think its fair to say that they are charging both the buyer and seller a fee for a transaction, when they aren't. Reverb charges a fee that is taken out of the seller's earnings. They collect sales tax from the buyer, just like any other store would, but they don't pocket any of that money. (I mean, I guess they could be, but they will be shut down as soon as the state government realizes it.)

      @@LiamKillen EU is quite a big market without having to pay for VAT. I think Reverb makes sense within areas the taxes are not charged.

    • @snarky-drive-by
      @snarky-drive-by 3 месяца назад

      Right but wrong. Reverb charges seller fees, and sellers mark up their Reverb listings to account for it. This is easy to see by checking anything listed by a given seller both on and off of Reverb. As a result, Reverb absolutely charges buyer fees, just not directly.

    • @scheelio
      @scheelio 3 месяца назад +1

      @@snarky-drive-by Sure, some sellers may do that, but by no means all of them do (source: me). Whether or not a seller chooses to pass on their fee to the potential buyer is 100% on that seller. There is no "buyer" fee mandated by Reverb, so it is unfair and incorrect to say that Reverb charges both the buyer and the seller a fee.
      Since all my other replies to Liam are getting removed, I assume this one will, too. I don't care if people buy gear or Reverb, Facebook, Craigslist, their local pawn shop, etc. I just think that things should be presented fair and correct.

    I got my mc 101 on mtl marketplace for 400$ and i think it's about the best value i got for a piece of gear. I get that the workflow is not to everyone's taste, but man it's a capable machine! Just as a sound module it's a bang for the buck, but it has slowly become my go-to for dawkess composition.
    Sampler-wise, i'm exploring the sp workflow, with an og sp404 i got for 200$, and i'm always finding new ways to use it, even with the bands i play with.
    Both are battery operated and have a pretty long battery life, even with rechargable ones. I don't usually like to plug things together but i'm thinking about using both together for dawless sets, we'll see how it goes

      @@pariskons5421 Similar machines on paper but very different outcomes depending on what kind of music you make, so better is for sure subjective. The ES2 has a less detailed sequencer in many ways, yet provides utilities like scale and chord functions as well as a full on built in polysynth. There aren't really presets per se, but they do have preprogrammed patterns with sounds you can use. I've regained interest in it mostly because I understand synthesis a lot better than when I first bought it (thanks @liam killen), and now I'm realizing how intuitive it is designing sounds from scratch. Very mediocre sampling capabilities so not too much comparison there vs the digitakt, but they both mangle pretty good.

    I'm getting out of the dawless scene and been trying to sell my gear locally for one week but I need to lower the prices since I've only sold three items so far (a couple of Refaces, Crave). I think it's because of how narrow the niche of synth gear is.

    the launch control is a fantastic performance controller. not a great remote. I also think if you need a remote controller by today's standard you don't want faders (non-motorized at least); because that's useless as they lose their position; you want encoders; and you want at least a small screen; preferably a strip along your encoders. so the apc-40 is not super useful in this regard. My hot take is; besides; the push 2/3; or maybe the apc64, the best controller for ableton is the new launchkey control mk4 (preferably the smallest since the keyboard is not the object here). add a small launchpad if you want more pads. the new move is also a contender but too expensive as just a controller. there's also the sl mk3 but it's inside a big keyboard. we're definitely missing a good ableton controller with deep integration; in a small package and without a keyboard.

      you can get the APC64 for $300 new now, too. I like the pads on it a LOT. Currently there's a weird bug in the most-recent firmware that when you power it on, Note/Chord is set to Octave +8. You can also use the APC64 as it is, and set up the Custom Mode as its own controller using... I think it's MIDI 2 but might be 3, I forget. Akai hasn't done many updates since releasing it nearly a year ago.

      @@Emily_M81 Yeah I got the APC644 off of ebay for 200. I am new to ableton I figured if i were to make the jump from fl studio that i would need some type of controller to do it but i have actually found a bit of utility in its stand alone mode and actually have barely event been using it with ableton. however the price drop is a good thing I dont think anyone would have been happy with it at 400. 300 makes much more sense and i think even if your not big on Ableton like me its worth it at 200 maybe 250 if your looking for something new. as a stand alone its fun burt i have laundry list of issues that i plan on sending to Akai but i got organize them all

    Just bought a new Behringer Crave for $169. At that price, I couldn't stop myself. Seems great for acid.

      @@LiamKillen I get that, but these boxes of this format (Edge, Crave, Grind), have an extra aggressive and raw sound that is exactly what I want. Even if you listen to them next to their Moog equivalents, they sound so much better, to me. So, I had to say F it and buy them. Already had the Edge.
