  • Shravanabelagola is a small town in Karnataka, India that is home to one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in the world. The town is known for its two giant monolithic statues of Bahubali, a Jain tirthankara (spiritual teacher). The larger statue, known as Gommateshwara, is 57 feet tall and is carved out of a single block of granite. It is the tallest free-standing monolithic statue in the world.
    The town is also home to a number of other Jain temples and monuments, as well as a number of caves that were once used by Jain monks. Shravanabelagola is a popular tourist destination, and is especially visited by Jain pilgrims from all over the world.
