    This was an incredible video and I learned something. Thank you. For the record, I think we all define weeds a little bit differently. For me, a weed is anything that subtracts more than it adds to the garden. One example. I have issues with bindweed. Yes, it's packed with nutrients, and I plan on trying out your method in the Spring/Summer. I'm sure I'll get great results. But it grows so aggressively that in my large plot, it takes many hours weekly just to keep it at bay. So the nutrients are what it adds. The labor it causes me are what it subtracts. And for me, it subtracts more than it adds. I can get nutrients anywhere. But I can't replace the hours upon hours that it takes to weed. Just my two cents.
    Still, your method makes it all a little less weedy. :) Thanks.

      thats a great definition my friend and I can certainly understand that!!... if we are to classify a few plants as weeds they'd for sure be Bindweed, Quackgrass and Thistles!!!

    Weeds don't deserve the hate they get! They have many purposes! In my garden 90% of the plants are "weeds" the rest are grass which started to grow naturally. I very much dislike how people get rid of them and replace them with grass. Which are usually non native. So... American lawns. American lawns are the most unnatural lawns throughout the entire world! Giant monocultures.

    I have always pulled and dropped my weeds in my garden before they went to seed. I used to get a lot of the weed henbit in my garden, which I used to make fermented plant juice. In the last three years I have researched JADAM and I'm sold on it. The only nutrient I worry about is phosphorous. Last year I dumped some organic bone meal into a Jadam 32 gallon black plastic trash can. The trash can was filled with sedum and comfrey. This year, I bought another 32 gallon black plastic trash can and filled it with tomato stalks, leaves, tomatoes and comfrey along with some sea salt and leaf mold. I'm excited to try it next year on my tomatoes and other night shades. I think your video is a great idea. You are turning lemons (weeds) into lemonade creating organic fertilizers that don't cost an arm and a leg. Innovative work for sure. Thanks and blessings to you in the name of Jesus.

    I recently subscribed because I am very impressed with how you explain so clearly the ways in which I can use natural recycling of plants, fish, vegetables, brush, etc., to improve the health of my soil, thereby enhancing the health of the plants and trees on my property. Thank you very much for all the time and effort you have put into this video and all prior videos. You provide a wealth of knowledge that I find easily accessible and readily implementable. So, onto my question: is there any benefit to pulling weeds and leaving them on the surface of land that does not readily grow plant life at the present time (i.e. dried-out, dusty land composed of grainy, light brown material)? Fresh, nutrient-rich topsoil will eventually be brought in to cover these areas of land, but in the meantime I would like to do something to improve what will become underlayment in the hope that future grass will develop deep roots. Or, am I completely off-base? Thank you in advance for your help!

    • @gardenlikeaviking
      @gardenlikeaviking  2 года назад +8

      thank you for the positive feedback my friend!!!.... its best to leave the weeds in the ground for now because they are feeding the soil and will not do so if they're dead... I'd suggest planting a "cover crop" immediately on that location to get living roots in the ground and begin transforming the soil... then when the cover crop dies it will all fall on top the surface and begin to decay and that will start the cycle for you... definitely a cover crop!

      @@danya.9602 It's any kind of plant you plant in the cold months so that the ground doesn't remain exposed. If you keep digging in the channel you'll find more about it. It's always important to have a leaving Root in the soil so when the hot loving plants will die in the cold plant something else to keep the soil "covered" until you plant something else in the next spring. Amazing! I never knew the role roots played. Pretty amazing! I used to loathe “weeds” until I learned how beneficial they can be. I discovered the stinging nettles that covered the area in my yard where my mower (set too low) had damaged the lawn. Those nettles I learned can be boiled into a tea and help with inflammation (my arthritis). Also, the “weed” Purslane- that also was all over my damaged lawn - is more nutritious than spinach! Now I embrace the “weeds” and consume them or use them in my compost heap.

The dandelions and plantain are absolutely massive. I’m being nice to them and they’re being nice to me! For those that I have to control near rob plants, I cut them off at the soil surface and lay them on the garden for mulch.

    Fascinated by your comment about how living roots build soil. It's sandy where I live, and I noticed where ground cover plants are growing (typically invasive species) the soil is much more dirt like than the usual sandy loam. So I've learned to let such "weeds" spread, then yank them for fertilizer and mulch, while getting improved soil where the "weeds" were growing.

    • @gardenlikeaviking
      @gardenlikeaviking  2 года назад +1

      ok my Viking brother here's the issue with that.... growing in soil uses the soil food web to break down nutrients into forms that are able to be used by the plants... all hydroponics and even the Kratky system must completely bypass the soil food web and instead utilize man made chemicals specifically created in a laboratory to be already in the form a plant can utilize... such as the Masterblend nutrients you use... thus we cannot mix the two systems because hydro will turn rancid if you try to use the natural ferments in a system where the soil food web is non existent...

    I made a 2 X 220 litre bins with a tap spout about 5 cm from bottom. I place on some bricks as high as a bucket so that the bucket sits comfortably under the tap spout . I place all weeds and fill with water. Usually that takes 6 months worth of weeds before using the second bin. After 6 months I start utilising the water out of spout to add 1:10 water to my garden watering. After a year I empty the solid remains and place in a compost much and allow that to break down. It now is ready for more weeds and contains some original water bacterial mix from the original batch. I simply add water if required along with weeds and cycle .

    John 3:16-17
    For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
    The Gospel
    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    Romans 10:13
    For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
    Faith Alone in the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ (God) to Forgive your Sins through His blood. By believing in this you have become a new creation in Christ, and have a promise you’ll be with the Lord in your death, but also have the Holy Spirit living in you forever as a guide for you. If you believe, from that moment on to eternity you are saved (No matter how much you struggle with sin after).
    Romans 3:23-25
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
    Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
    Romans 3:10-12
    As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
    There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
    They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
    Hell or Heaven?
    Matthew 10:28
    And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
    Matthew 23:13
    Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
    HELL IS A REAL LOCATION
    ALL NON CHRISTIANS WILL BE THERE AND ARE THERE
    John 14:6
    Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    A PRAYER FOR SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST
    “I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died for my sins and rose three days later from the grave. Thank you for forgiving my sin on the cross. You alone Jesus is now why I have forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you in Jesus name. Amen.”
    If you have prayed this with faith you are Forgiven and now in the Body of Christ.
    Welcome brother or sister, I’m excited to meet one day. Remember saying a prayer does not save you, having Faith does in Jesus and what He did for you.
    I encourage you to find a Godly Bible Believing church as well.
    God Bless

    • @gardenlikeaviking
      @gardenlikeaviking  Год назад +2

      actually the only reason I put an air lock on the fish bucket was because I kept it inside the basement to keep from predators... the airlock keeps the smell away so I didn't smell anything foul inside!!... but outside I just let the barrels or buckets naturally release air through their lids if pressure builds up... the barrels are designed that way

      @@gardenlikeaviking Thanks for your reply, I might keep the fish fertilizer under the house, here we mostly need to worry about quolls, and Tasmanian Devils getting into our chickens etc. I use raised hugelkultur beds from locally collected resources for all of my vegetables as the local soil on this part of the island is very hydrophobic and low in nutrients. Hugelkultur has worked very well for me (and has saved on water) as long as you keep topping it up as it tends to sink over time. Are you familiar with this process? Maybe a good idea for a new video.

    Just! You can also cover the ground over all these "weeds" (if you have a larger area) with a cloth that does not let light through, before they go into seed. Next year, you can just make a hole in the ground-covering material, and plant plants that are not too nutritious. The following year, it can be removed for further preparation, more nutritious plants die. All "weeds" have then died, leaving only nutrients left! 💞
