This performance is the most beautiful I've heard. Other performances I've heard are too hurried and unnatural. But these guys, they tell a story, like they dreamed the song and so they understand the correct pace and emotion. Just amazing!
I saw them last night. Geraldine Walther has replaced the viola (Roger Tapping, in 2005). Hair is mostly grey or gone now. Lead violin (Edward Dusinberre) is the most changed. But animated! Last night the violins were practically leaping from their seats (Károly Schranz is second violin, the guy with the long hair, he's part of the original quartet). András Fejér, cello, is also original. He was my favorite to watch. Aging has made each of the men more physically expressive in performance. Ms Walther was almost immobile by comparison. I'm not saying that like it was bad or anything, just a contrast.
To me the version by the Busch Quartet set the benchmark. But this modern recording with video and markedly improved sound is a delight. Thank you for posting.
I had never heard the Busch Quartet play it but I watched the video. It's very nice, but I wasn't blown away by it. I think, especially at 2:45 Dusinberre really does the violin justice. The Busch Quartet violin sounds a bit demure? Dusinberre sounds alive, like blood pumping and exhiliration. Maybe it's the sound quality, like you mentioned. :)
I have a recording of Takacs Quartet performing D810 and 804. This movement was much crispier and decisive in that CD; this live recording sounded way more "stickier."

Amazing work! Gives me goose bumps
The Gramophone rated their Beethoven late quartets very highly and this great Schubert quartet is a quality interpretation
Sublime music. Brilliant performance.
Magnificent performance!
I want this at my funeral
Very brilliant, like it must be performed : slowly and deeply considered... Marvellous.

@@fauxpaws3328 What?
Absolutely sublime performance. Happy that they’ve made Colorado their home. Brings some class to Boulder.
SO BEAUTIFUL! Well done!
Best best. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Beautiful tempo! A class above any other rendition of this brilliant quartet.
Phenomenal! Gripping music, marvelous playing.
Truly beautiful! Thank you
Superb sound, balanced, rich poetry and lyricism far from the histerical mood and overpassion of nowdays performances. My favourite. 🌷
Such wide vibrato. I usually don't like it, but it is perfect in this instance.
RIP 1/19/2022, Roger Tapping

Quelle application. Superbe de chagrin.

Mi cuarteto favorito. Una gozada. Polanski hizo una película de él. Trágico y delicado a la vez.
명연주~ 감동입니다~^^
Heavenly
My favourite part is where the first violin goes | >/ ja da da da da tatata| diiiiii jadadadaaa|

the whole dutch 30+ population knows this version cause of a populair tv series who used it as their intro called Jeskefet Lullo's
14 dead maidens..
Lullo's
no - I think its empty
I'm afraid we can't be friends...
Too much vibrato. Otherwise good.
