  • Hey everyone!
    In this video we are going over some steps to change the fuel filters on a 2021 Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel. We will be changing the filter under the hood and the fuel water delegator filter towards the rear.
    The filters I used are from Doc’s Diesel. This company has some great reviews. Prices were decent and shipping was within reason for all 3 filters (water separator filter, fuel filter and oil filter) I had my oil changed at the dealership so I just save the oil filter for when I do the oil change at home.
    Here is some information from Doc’s Diesel website along with the link.
    www.docsdiesel...
    Product Details:
    • Fuel Filter 3 Micron Rating with a 99.7% Efficiency Rating
    • Made with High Efficiency 3 Layer Media Paper

This time put some thought into it to try and keep from getting diesel everywhere 🤣 the wife doesn’t appreciate when I throw diesel infused clothes in the washing machine lol
      The new separator was much easier to replace than the 4th gen. I am very happy that they redid this.

    My front filter leaked so I unscrewed it and looked to see if something was wrong then put it back on and it was still leaking but not as much maybe like a drip every 8 seconds so I tightened it about an 1/8 of a turn and it stopped leaking but it was a pain in the ass. • @walterk1221
    @walterk1221 Год назад +1

    A couple errors... the correct size tool for the filter caps is 28mm *not* 1 1/8. You will eventually bugger up tje hex. You should prime more than simply twice. You absolutely do not want any air pockets because the HPFP is lubricated by fuel and an air bubble can damage the pump (bigger issue with CP4 pump than with CP3).
    Lastly, there is not yet "5th Gen" 2500/3500/4500/5500. Only 1500 has 5th Gen.

    • @thejourniganadventures7391
      @thejourniganadventures7391  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the corrections. My truck is in fact a 5th gen. Even the slightest research shows that the 1500 series 5th generations came out in 2018-present and the 2500 series and up is 2019- present. As the video title states my truck is a 2021 year model making it a 5th generation ram truck.
      As for the 1 1/8” socket vs the 28mm it’s 1.125” standard vs 1.102” metric. If you have a 28 mm socket by all means use that. If you do not however, (like I do not) the 1 1/8” works just as good until the correct size can be acquired.
      Priming the system more than twice sounds like great advice and I can see the value in doing it.
      I appreciate the feedback and I will ensure to make the necessary adjustments in future fuel filter changes. I am by no means perfect nor a mechanic and I post these videos with mistakes and all to allow everyone to learn from my mistakes and provide themselves the best maintenance they can on there vehicle.

    Be careful with those Docs filters. They are Chinese made and do not meet the minimum filtration requirements called for by Ram and Bosch. The under hood filter was not sealed in plastic. This allows cardboard fibers and other contaminants to enter the clean side of the filter during shipping. You would have had better filtration and engine protection running the factory filters twice their recommended interval over using those Chinese filters.
    Docs has good reviews because they delete the bad reviews. I have contacted them. The filters are made in China and do not have a two step final filter that filters to two microns. They filter to seven microns. This will severely impact your injectors over time unless your fuel at the pump is perfect and not needing any filtration.
    Be careful. That purchase is playing with fire.
    Another tip. When you buy the under hood filter through fleetguard or mopar it comes with instructions. You skipped a step. Drain the front filter. Loosen the cap. Do not remove the cap. Open the drain again. This allows the fuel in the canister to drain and the bowl can be cleaned. If you leave fuel in the can the clean side and dirty side fuel mix. This could introduce contaminants to the clean side of the filter when installing the new cartridge. What you did was drain the fuel that was under a slight pressure. Remove the pressure and the fuel stops flowing. Break the lid seal and gravity removes the remaining fuel.
    Your truck is awesome and you want to do an OCD job. You take great videos and buy the best parts. So this filter is kind of out of line with your perfection attainment. IMO it is tacky marketing on Docs part. But, keep up the good work. Your truck is amazing and we can all learn more together and do better. I dont want to bring bad news or negativity but maybe a course correction.

    • @thejourniganadventures7391
      @thejourniganadventures7391  Год назад +3

      Ah thanks for the feedback on extra steps to be taken to fully drain the filter can in the engine bay. I never thought about breaking the seal and then opening the drain port again and let gravity do its work.
      As far as the filters go, I am very adamant on changing the filters regularly. I normally use Mopar filters only but decided to give these a go. So far they seem to be doing fine, however, as I mentioned I am not one to go further than the intended change out mileage because I have trust issues lol
      This video however was more so about how to change the filters in your driveway opposed to the filter selection itself. Regardless though, you are not the first person to voice disgust with this brand, so myself moving forward I will be taking everyone’s recommendations and sticking with the brands I know and trust moving forward! Thanks again for the additional tip! I will be incorporating this into my next fuel filter change procedure!
