Hi Paul and Sheryl... the boat looks amazing. The shot of it at 2:37 in the video is so beautiful. Looks like you guys are getting close for the big voyage.... Can't wait
Very prudent and safety minded to practice the new boat without the thrusters. You know that things seem to fail at the worst possible time, but you will be prepared. Like the educational videos very much.
I can watch howto videos for hours. Just when I think I know a little something, I find a well done video such as yours that gives another pearl or two. Cheers!
It is so nice to see how-to videos about sailing! Please, please, please... Keep them coming! We, as a family, love to watch your channel, and look forward to finding a Southerly of our own!
Beautiful boat! I know nothing about sailing and may never actually sail, but I sure do enjoy your videos. Gives a glimpse into an entirely new world...
Well done friends and THANK YOU for the lesson and YES YES YES on more how to vids! Also, nice to see sailors with lPDF's even in calm conditions! PEACE OUT! Ü
This spring line to push off a dock looks simple enough Paul.....nice to have Sheryl aboard so you only need to ask once to do something. Your new vessel sure has nice lines. You ruined me on keels and now I only want a swing keel....and cannot find one that I can afford....I think everyone that has moved thru your wake also now wants one. Thanks Paul ;).
Yes definately more of these 'how to' videos. As a single hander using springs, and spring bridles, (set up as slip-lines) is a very useful way of getting on and off a dock. And I am very impressed that you have bow and stern thrusters and didn't use them - that is classy.
P&S...this sort of information is excellent !!! We only need look at how people secure dock lines to cleats, to realize we live in an age of "credit card captains" !! How to handle a yacht in various situations, is so very important for people to know. A Standing Ovation from Mary & I !!!
Very Clean Execution of the Bow spring, and Stern pull fulcrum... I'd Keep an Eye on that First Mate There, Keeps wondering back and forth during Crucial Maneuvers... *Have Fun, Laugh Often, Be Careful of One Another* :-)
Refreshing to see a cooperative and relaxed couple. I've always seen a lot more yelling and anger between them when docking. I'm guilty of it at least once though. gotten a lot better since we've been watching docking videos!
Boat looks great guys. I have used Hythe marina a lot and it is pretty tight. Good techniques and keeping it slow and calm is best. Look forward to your onward travels. Safe passage. Andy UK
Distant Shores TV it is certainly a skill to master. I grew up being the line handler for my dad. Now he is gone I had to learn the moves pretty quick. Having no thrusters and a wicked prop walk going astern makes life exciting around structures! I am glad to be on a swing Mooring. Cheers. Wade
That bow spring and fender cast-off was the first technique I got taught when I got my first boating license. If you have a rudder that is in the prop wash, steering into the dock will help you turn faster, which is really neat I in a tight spot... :-)
Thank you for sharing your "know how" - let's get more of them, thanks. We are relatively new sailors and especially docking technicians are something we try to practice. That is definitely something we can use. The boat is SO beautiful and it is a pleasure to follow you from the purchase and to your first trips. Best regards - Mette and Kenneth 🇩🇰
Love the show! Watch every episode on TV. The how to videos online are an added bonus and much needed/appreciated. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and adventures with the sailing community!
Would definitely love more of these great how to videos. Very informative and great work combining the video and "cartoon/model". Much appreciated. Kind regards, Peter
Very nice! I really enjoyed using prop walk/wash to get onto the dock. We need more videos like this, and more captains to watch them. I watched the captain of a large catamaran recently try to use his two engines to shimmy up to a dock between two other cats when all he needed to do was let the wind blow him onto the dock and just maintain fore and aft position. After watching your video, I realized I could learn a new trick or two myself.
Hey Capt'n Pat. You know I love your vids { HELL of a lot of work, single handing .} My son bought me, us , A C&C 25 about six years ago. He works on the lakers here in Canada. He showed me the spring line and it's importance for all sorts of big and small ship, boat, handling in harbour. Only diff between the big ship lines and ours was , 3" steel and five eight's poly . lol.
Hi Patrick. Yes it is nice seeing you checking out the other channels. Like I've said many times before you are right up there with the best as far as sailing videos go on the net. I knew of, Paul & Sheryl almost 30 years ago in Toronto when they first began there amazing journey. I am meeting up with them in the Canary Islands in November to do the Transatlantic crossing. I will be 27 days with them and I can tell you I am over the moon about it. You take care and keep your videos coming. I do look forward to each and everyone of them.
Your's is such a beautiful, and well planned boat; I feel good about her being sailed by able, and experienced sailors. A fine example you are, indeed, setting.
So very well done again and I love that you always wear your safety gear even in the harbor, at all times. That is what my wife and I always did also. I only wish more people, ALL boaters did the same. We know of people, too many, that have died at the docks and when entering the harbor as well as when out to sea. Many were avoidable by simply ALWAYS wearing your safety gear when topside on your boat.
Really like how you explain the topic and demon straight how to do it. It would great to see more videos like this. Thanks for sharing.
The animation makes it all clear to understand. Great job.
Oh, and, yes, yes, we absolutely will enjoy more of these seamanship videos. It’s very helpful to watch your practiced, systematic style.
Thank you for bringing us with you on your journeys! Please give us more of this!

Another gem for information. More please! Oh, and your boat is not too shabby either. Nice, verrry nice.
yes, boat operations and maintenance videos are really great
Informative instruction re lines & boat maneuvering, thanks for sharing.
We love thought provoking videos; puzzles even if you run into any. Thank you so much for all that you do.
Another beautiful warm, sunny day in Europe.
We always love your how to videos. Watching you onTV over the years, you both feel like family to us.
You blow my mind Paul. I’d be a wreck... and there you are just calmly narrating.
Any advice from seasoned salts is always welcomed! Keep the how to vids coming!
These are always good reminders and love seeing others techniques.
Really nice and calm explained and showed. Specifically without Bowthruster. THANK YOU
I can watch howto videos for hours. Just when I think I know a little something, I find a well done video such as yours that gives another pearl or two. Cheers!

Thanks Anthony we will make more! And please pass on our kindest regards to your family 😍❤️ Good luck with your search for a Southerly!
Yes more how to video's. Thanks for sharing just love your channel.
Excellent as always. Thank you both. Fair winds.
Great instructional video, having the camera up on the mast really helped to drive home exactly what was going on with the boat during the maneuver.
I really enjoyed this video and would like to see more like it. Thank you.
Beautiful boat! I know nothing about sailing and may never actually sail, but I sure do enjoy your videos. Gives a glimpse into an entirely new world...
Great video and Cheryl is great crew!

What size boat are you looking for?
48 to 54' Monohull Pilothouse with 14 to 15' Beam (will be my new home), prefer a steel hull but fiberglass is okay.
very good vid. Thank you for posting

Very nice demo on spring lines -- on and off. You guys make a great team. Many thanks.
Hey, small world seeing you over here on this channel Patrick ! You're great for sharing tips/ideas as well, not just covering sailing voyages.
Thanks Dave. I have been a big fan of Distant Shores for a long time. These guys sailed through the center of Paris once. Really! Love them.
You're welcome Patrick ! Yes saw they'd done that. They and you are wonderful salt of the earth folk.
