I love how innovative this game is for a horror game. You can find yourself more immersed to the atmosphere, story and characters. Truly an unforgettable experience and would strongly recommend people try out if they haven't yet.
Got it on a sale. Can't wait to sink my teeth into it.
@@viktorthevictor6240 Any thoughts so far?

I played it on my switch in handheld mode in my room at night time. Headphones, no lights. Played the first few nights, heard those footsteps in the grass outside, and the knocking on the door. The fact that the game documented how many nights I had played made me think I was on a timer and that nights were progressively going to become harder, and if I didn't hurry up with gathering materials and progressing through the story I would have to start a new game.
So I rushed to the entrance to the silent forest with only a torch and board with nails, and the savage there killed me. I found the experience so stressful that I stopped playing for weeks. Eventually I picked up where I left off and man. There's so much to say. There was never a dull moment. I always felt scared to explore new locations, but always motivated. And the true ending was surprisingly hopeful, it was really satisfying.
Idk how to condense every thought I have into one comment but I'll say that it was a sublime experience. All the aspects of the game melt together and directly serve each other. The narrative, the theme and art design, the soundtrack and sound design, the gameplay.
@@viktorthevictor6240 Any tips for a starter player who just entered Silent Forest like me?
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588
Hm, it's been a little while so I might not remember much. Let's see.
1. If you're using a board with nails, upgrade its damage at the crafting table. As far as I know it's the cheapest upgrade in the game (it only costs some nails I think). There's no reason not to.
2. Maybe it was a mistake, but I never really used stamina consumables (like bread and normal pills). If you don't feel like you need them, sell them all to the trader. Just pay attention to your stamina in melee fights.
3. Use beartraps. Monsters become ridiculously easy to kill when trapped, and they're easy to lure into a trap as well. I recommend buying up the 3 scrap metals almost every morning so you can keep them coming. (Don't step in your own traps though!)
4. Glass bottles can't be bought or crafted. Prioritize keeping them when organizing your inventory after looting. Use them to craft lanterns so you have a light source while being free to use a weapon. Have at least one lantern on you and two in your item box.
Bonus: if you have enough glass bottles, throw them on the floor inside your hideout. The glass shards are like traps. They can be picked up and placed back on the ground at any time. Nothing will happen to you or the shards if you step on them, but enemies will take damage on contact and the shards will disappear. Throw a bottle on a beartrap to make it an instant kill on some monsters.
5. Don't hoard ammo. It's good to keep a reserve, but don't be afraid to spend your resources. There will be plenty out in the woods. Just make sure you hit your marks. A few misses with the pistol doesn't matter.
6. And finally, don't barricade every entrance to the room you spend the night in. It costs a lot of resources and monsters will break through to you anyway. Keep one door/window open, with a trap and glass shards if you want to, and be ready to fight. If that bird looking motherf*cker pays you a visit, throw a molotov where he stands, about two seconds after he screams and disappears. You'll burn his babies. If you can't, put a flare down so you can see at least.
This is such a good song to display the depressing and dark mood of the story

This game is hard. Takes a little while to master the fundamentals of how this game works. But I really love it. The art and atmosphere are excellent, it's got an interesting story, neat RPG elements that have you implement a hubris for every trait you get, a vision system that really makes it more intense and of course, really eerie music in the best way. The only thing I find kind of unfortunate is the overhead view. That's the way the game is, I'm aware, and the gameplay isn't detracted that much from it, but I personally feel like it makes it hard to see where you're going sometimes since how far you can see in front of you is more limited. The odds may be against you, but that's the essence of what makes survival horror. Easily one of the best I've played in a long time.

I don't know if I would say "Hard". I definitely didn't felt like it, already by the first shelter I was full of supplies with good amounts of progress. It is definitely very immersive, but hard? Not in my case.
The game is not really that hard if you compare it with Hotline Miami for example. It just seems hard in the beginning because the atmosphere and art does a great job to make you scared of everything. Once you figure out what enemy types there are and how to fight them it is quite easy. I think the game is really good but if they had a bit more time and budget it could have been great. The bird perspective didn't bother me at all, i think more games should innovate and try new stuff. We have enough low poly 3D indie horror games.
I love the sense of power I feel in listening to this theme. It feels like it gives a sense of hope, ominousness, and strength at the same time. A different user commented on the theme being that of a heartbeat, and it's an awesome concept to tie into the whole theme of the game. Like this is our plan to survive you know?
well i mean the forest is very much alive so the heartbeat is probably "the being"
Agreed, in darkwood it does give you the opportunity to feel unstoppable, for example any shotgun.
Feel the same. Just wrote a comment, than saw yours. Fk yeah!

This game was so good. Literally i have dread and fear to continue playing, and nothing felt forced at all. Great game, sad its now as popular as it should be

One of the best games I ever played, and this track perfectly fits to game
best horror games without jumpscare
@The Joker well their are jumpscares but not like in other games where somethin jus leaps out at you, the game scares you with the atmosphere and making things super tense, just for you to scream in terror from stepping on a bear trap.
Correction. The only jumpscares are those made by the player. I.e., lack of concentration, poor strategic placement of lights/traps. That's just one of the hundreds of things that makes this game so incredible. A lot of the scares are psychological to the player, it is by their own doing half the time.
@The Joker Sweet Fancy Moses , when you're clutching to your last broken weapon and have banshees and human spiders smashing your last window and you back up in to a beartrap which was YOUR LAST RESORT and end your hardcore run. Absolute heartattack

This song is so fucking good.
At some point in the game I realised that nothing in this woods is more terrifying than the stranger himself. Willing to butcher, to beat to a pulp with a sharpened shovel, to blow the head off of anyone and anything to survive, to get what’s theirs. A cornered beast. At this point I wasn’t scared of the game anymore, just more immersed and excited to get through to the end. Was not disappointed.
Well, everyone attacks the stranger because they think he's a monster, he just defends himself as far as I can tell.

I was here, trying to find the way home
After a couple minutes of listening, my heartbeat syncs up nigh perfectly with the music. Our own hearts naturally try to match rhythms we listen to, so at a very calm 56 beats per minute this song might be intentionally engineered to calm you down. Considering most of the times I hear this music is after pausing during some intense moment, if this effect is truly intentional it would be fucking genius.
Actually this song doesnt make me calm. I am panicking when I listen to this... but it's not "that" kind of panic. It's more about fear of the unknown and secrets this game hides. Idk, maybe it's because I think about the terrifying lore while listening to this. Just think for a second. Clear your mind and focus on the events of this game. I dont know if you feel the same way I do, but if yes... it feels so surreal, yet so real now, right? It's a song played at the start of the game but it feels like an end to me. An end of something bad and scary, but at the same time an end of something I am curious about (I think we all are). Maybe my comment will be just a lot of dumb, not important words, but if you understand the feelings I am trying to make you feel, then you know what I'm talking about. Sorry for this unnecessarily long comment... I am kinda crazy about game soundtracks and this game blows my mind with its' music to this day (I heard it for the first time a year ago)
@@vb1125 lol, I completely understand. But to me part of that enhances its beauty. To me it's a disquieting and temporary solace, one that relieves you but doesnt let you forget what must come.
