I own the older Claret 8preX mine only has 98db head room so this is a massive improvement over mine. What this means is i cannot turn up the claret more than 25% gain without getting audible noise . so you have to use it with an external mic pre. If you plan on using external compressors and EQ you will need to go back in through channels 3-8. If u try 1-2 you will get alot of noise. Yes its a huge upgrade... The people saying its not are talking out of their asses... If you plan on using external hardware, doing mastering, or re-amping then this will be a significant improvement over the previous model. ... The Unit has much improved signal to noise specs and a huge bump in headroom. That's going to make a massive difference both in initial recording and resampling As someone who uses the claret is can tell u that this version will be way more useful than mine. I cannot use external hardware with mine because the pres and converters are just too noisy. They claret + has similar specs now too more higher end interfaces like the antelope lines. So yes. Its worth the upgrade. The only issue is why get this when you can spend a few bucks more and get a slightly older rig from another manufacturer that has DSP and built in plugins. And basically the same specs

But the mixer/routing software doesn’t. This Clarett+ seems to be a solid, cost effective upgrade, that seems very similar in layout to the 18i20. It seems like a spray painted PRO 40 Saffire, which they stopped supporting... The latency is probably worse as well. What also annoys me the USB-C mention is so unclear.
I can assure u its not. I own the older claret 8Pre. Latency is not a problem i record with less than 3ms latency and using my DAW FX in real time. Also this new version has SIGNIFICATLY better pres than mine. The headroom specs and frequency response are way way better... Based on the specs this claret is basically a Lynx Aurora 16 from 2016 or 2021 Antelope Discrete 8
@@3star2nr Specs doesn't tell you the whole story neither does Dynamic range alone tells you the quality of a conveter sounds. The Clarett is by no means in the same League as the Apogee and Lynx stuff. Theres a reason given the massive price difference. The Clarett is a Prosumer interface ment for home recording and project studios not high end Pro Audio. It lacks dedicated Line level I/O as well as Reference level calibration required when using analog outboard gear. The Pre amps aren't bypassble. You would need to spend a bit more money on the higher end Focusrite RedNet Dante or Red Thunderbolt interfaces once you get more into Pro Audio if you want to do Hybrid mixing with analog outboard gear.
@3star2nr - i was just comparing it to a PRO 40 saffire, which is an awesome interface and if it wasnt for the discontinued support, I would never changed it.

I went to focusrite website and compared Clarett + 2Pre USB-C specs against my Clarett 2Pre USB. The listed differences: Line inputs: Dynamic Range 119DB vs 118DB in 2Pre USB Mic inputs: None Instrument inputs: Dynamic Range 116DB vs 118DB in 2Pre USB Line & Monitor Outputs: Dynamic Range 124DB vs 119DB in 2Pre USB Monitor volume and headphone volume knobs: The bs you see in this video vs chrome in 2Pre USB and all other previous models. Only way I would have upgraded is if Focusrite added the S/PDIF input/output that are inside 4Pre USB. Which they didnt. F^&%^% the new model.
Lazy, there almost no difference in specs as old interface. Seems like a marketing reboot campaign. and a 1 or 2 db here or there wont get me to buy a new clarett. Clarett's are great already. If you want to rock the audio interface world give us less latency. And please don't start putting chips on the next series, we dont need no stinking cpu chips... our computers are quick enough now. just give us virtually no latency.
Correct, it's not trying to market a whole new upgrade to us. If you already have the Clarett, you'd keep it, it's great. They just slightly changed the name because of the change of parts from a manufacturer change. Too bad about the parts shortage! I can understand some confusion though, since most products keep the same name regardless of changes to parts or factories.
Each Clarett model is starting to be like the iPhone. Small increment changes with no drastic changes. Its essentially the same product, same chassis. All three generation Claretts looks exactly the same with no new aesthetic design. Better off opting for the Red Thunderbolt range or something else from another manufacturer.
This is a significant improvement over the previous model... The previous ones were very noisy this one has significantly better signal to noise and headroom specs. So yes... Its worth it to upgrade.
@@3star2nr Yet it's still the same ole interface that's already in its third generation. No new features added, no changes in the hardware or chassis design, no thunderbolt, no talk back mic or DSP. I use to own the original Thunderbolt Claret 8Pre that I sold off last May of last year and opted for a MOTU 828ES AVB interface. The Windows Thunderbolt drivers for the Clarett range was already abandoned still stuck in beta stage that hasn't been updated since 2016 which is bad. Focusrite doesn't have a solid track record when it comes to long term driver support like MOTU, RME, Lynx and Halo Metric. The original Clarett was obviously a flop from their own failure with poor quality Thunderbolt drivers to the point that they had to prematurely discounted it in 2019 and bait and switch relaunching the same product all back over again with a USB connection.
@@3star2nr I owned one and just came here to say its pretty much the same ole product. I expected a very different product with maybe a colored LCD display, completely different chassis design, new features added and Thunderbolt when I heard that the Clarett+ was out. The Unit has much improved signal to noise specs and a huge bump in headroom. That's going to make a massive difference both in initial recording and resampling
As someone who uses the claret is can tell u that this version will be way more useful than mine.
Does this come with software (much like the sapphire pro 40) to create independent mixes for band members?
Hi there! Yes, Focusrite most certainly has software that gives you mix control independent from your DAW. Check out the link here for some more info regarding the software. It’s called Control 2:

Thanks!

Does this play well with the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips running Monterey?
Hi, TJ! Thanks for the interest. Yes, Focusrite has confirmed that the Clarett+ series works with Monterey and the new M1 Macs. Check out the link below for more details on which Focusrite products work with the new Apple systems:

@@sweetwater Thank YOU for your reply. I now own a 16” M1 Pro, 10 cpu, 16 gpu, 32gb ram, 2tb SSD. I purchased from you an Apollo Solo Thunderbolt. Hopefully fills the bill for location and off the grid work. So far, so good. In my studio, I’ve used a 1st gen Scarlette 18i20. The interface is class compliant, so it works. But the mixer/routing software doesn’t. This Clarett+ seems to be a solid, cost effective upgrade, that seems very similar in layout to the 18i20. I’m not seeing too many other compatible choices that sport 8 mic pres. Thoughts? The Apollo 8p and the Avid Carbon are a tad pricey.
What is the round trip latency? I can’t find that information anywhere. Why is it not thunderbolt? Why would they make a slower product?
There's no loopback feature on this board. I livestream, playing drums to tracks and unless there's a way to get my system audio into the Clarett+ 8pre, this unit is pretty much useless for my needs.
How is this 18 in 20 out
Is the USB-C out actually thunderbolt 3?
Usb c
Does this have loopback capabilities?
Hi, Jose! You could certainly rig the Clarett line to allow for loop back functionality, but how you might approach it depends on your end goal/setup. Feel free to reach out if you need some more specific recommendations on that!

Can this support an Ipad for input and output audio?
Hey there! No, iOS is not supported with these interfaces. These are compatible with either Mac or PC. We have plenty of interfaces that will work great with an iPad, but nothing that will give you quite as much I/O as the Clarett would.
Feel free to reach out and we’d be happy to further chat through what you have going on!

0:40 "the clarett+ 8pre is a usb preamp"
?????????????????????????????????????
…hmmm you got a live one here ! 1.If it’s a pre amp ….then there’s no USB except for firmware upgrades…2.if it’s MIDI over USB then it’s an Interface. …NOT a preamp. 3. What’s the optical out for ADAT obviously. Hmmmm…..seems like a an interface..
What’s different from the Clarett 8pre usb?
Way way better pres. Improved noise floor and frequency response
For Mac and PC?
latency ?
Same I’d bet…. 8 to 10 mil/sec at low buffer
@@Gretsch0997 that is not very good.
@@electricwhiterabbit indeed....
First one to like💪
66th one to like!
@@eman0828 have u used the claret +?
@3star2nr - i was just comparing it to a PRO 40 saffire, which is an awesome interface and if it wasnt for the discontinued support, I would never changed it.
@@lulikastrati5911 that technology is also like 17 years old bro... Things have gotten significantly better just in the last year much less 17... Move on man and dont be closed minded to trying new things.
Clarett + 2Pre USB-C claims to have "New and improved A-D and D-A converters" over previous model 2Pre USB.
I own 2Pre USB and wanted to know the specs of Clarett +. I went to focusrite website and compared Clarett + 2Pre USB-C specs against my Clarett 2Pre USB. The listed differences:
Line inputs:
Dynamic Range 119DB vs 118DB in 2Pre USB
Mic inputs:
None
Instrument inputs:
Dynamic Range 116DB vs 118DB in 2Pre USB
Line & Monitor Outputs:
Dynamic Range 124DB vs 119DB in 2Pre USB
Monitor volume and headphone volume knobs:
The bs you see in this video vs chrome in 2Pre USB and all other previous models.
Only way I would have upgraded is if Focusrite added the S/PDIF input/output that are inside 4Pre USB. Which they didnt.
F^&%^% the new model.
Doesn't the Clarett+ 4Pre have spdif? The images in their site does have them visible at the back.
Damn I see you on this . Shout to you .
Its because of the chip shortage. They had to get new converters and thought why not call it the clarett plus. Its a different converter at the end..
It's an asic not a cpu
The Clarett+ is a superior interface.
If you need extra headspace or headroom the clarett is your go to interface period. Big difference in that than of the Scarlett.
No difference between it and the last one - they are just trying to take your money.
PLEASE STOP WITH THE LAME BACKING MUSIC BETWEEN INFORMATION. It's completely unnecessary.
@@eman0828 so you aren't planning to buy one. So why do you care
@@3star2nr I owned one and just came here to say its pretty much the same ole product. I expected a very different product with maybe a colored LCD display, completely different chassis design, new features added and Thunderbolt when I heard that the Clarett+ was out. But no, it's the same interface with small increment changes. Nothing really new. Just like I said, it's like the iPhone.
