  • Measles is one of the most contagious diseases in the world. A person carrying the virus can infect up to 90 percent of unvaccinated people around them.
A vaccine offers almost complete protection after two injections, so making sure that children are double-vaccinated is vital. In many countries, including Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), children slip through the cracks and measles are responsible for killing tens, and sometimes hundreds, of thousands of children every year.
In 2022, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams in DRC vaccinated more than 2 million children in 14 provinces and treated more than 37,000 children with measles; we also supported routine vaccination activities in other DRC provinces where MSF is present throughout the year.
