Dear Adam, i love your treatment of people. You never lost your connection to the fans. You are really faszinated when other people are creative. This is very inspireing. It is not important how long we are cosplayers. It's all about the dedication and passion. And having fun. So you are really a rolemodel how to interact with creative fans. You are one of us. Thank you! Kind regards TLac

I would love to hear about another book recommendation from you guys! You suggested The Three Body Problem, loved it and have read the other two in the series. My personal suggestion that has stuck with me and I would recommend for the Tested crew would be The Unincorporated Man. It's a great book and has stuck with me for years.
Great podcast, and keep up the great work!

    Excellent stuff as always guys.
On the subject of Indexing. I once spent around 6 months indexing photos and artwork and pulling apart videos into tagged and searchable bit-sized chunks for a games design company I was working for. As a designer I didn't always get arty creative projects. This particular task would have been soul destroying if it wasn't for two key things. I got to look through beautiful imagery and videos and I got to spend time with a true veteran of the company and nearly every image or video came with a fantastic story. It was a long project but it was a time that I'll not forget. The indexed system that was in place when it was done was just brilliant. Thousands of easily accessible chunks of media goodness just a mouse click away. All there and easy to get at for inclusion in any project.
I think indexing and organising are things we sometimes put off but they can be fun and rewarding. I do suggest the addition of good coffee and excellent pizza. It really does help.

I still want a show that only looks at movies that came out five years before the show. meaning, that this years (2018) show could only nominate films from 2013. 2019 could only nominate 2014 films. You get the idea. That way we get a more honest result and we get rid of the BS and the hippiest trends. We only award those left standing after the dust has settled. Those films that actually did something.

The reason you can't do the two-term search thing anymore is that Google fudges the results to include things that only include one or the other term. To get the old behavior, you now have to put each word in quotes, like "eggs" "flight".

I once had one of those moments with a movie. I was at a friend's house, and as we were walking out of the house there was a movie on and the scene made us laugh our asses off.
Years later I suddenly remembered that day and wanted to know the movie so I googled: "movie where aliens put shit in guy's mouth"
And BOOM! Fire in the Sky.
Found the scene on youtube and had more laughs lol

That search system reminds me of Wikipedia. Query "Kevin from the Office", and the first result is Kevin Malone's page. Query "Fat guy from Lost", and Hugo "Hurley" Reyes is the first result. "Harold Abbot on Everwood", and Tom Amandes is the sixth result.
Oh, the Americans was such a great show. I was surprised that Reis, Russell, and Martindale were the only ones to get Emmy nominations for acting. Frank Langella (Gabriel in seasons 3-5) and Annet Mahendru (Nina) deserved far more recognition.
Spoilers: Season 4's "Chloramphenicol" is particularly a heartbreaker.

I recently saw the first "Casino Royale" movie (it was an official Bond movie while also a non-canonical spoof). There was a time when MGM and the Broccolis appeared to no longer be working together ever again on a Fleming-based film. So, there was a movie where a supervillain (you'd never guess who gets revealed to be the supervillain) starts assassinating all male superspies who at least a certain height or taller. The CIA, MI6, and KGB are getting targeted, so they ask the real James Bond (played by David Niven) out of retirement. The thing is that Bond decides to bring in decoys (other agents all codenamed "James Bond"). So Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, Joanna Pettet, Dahlia Lavi, Woody Allen, Barabara Bouchet, and Terence Cooper play the 7 additional James Bonds. Orson Welles plays a henchman, and Burt Bacharach composed the soundtrack.
The whole movie even holds up social politically until the end scene melee includes ninjas and "dog soldier" Native American archetypes.
Not only did Baracharach and Dusty Springfield record the Oscar winning (and Grammy Hall of Famer) "the Look of Love" specifically for this movie, but when "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" (the spoof that borrowed greatly from this spoof) used the "the Look of Love", they even parodied the exact scene from "Casino Royale".

I agree that Return of the King isn't the best movie in the trilogy, but I always thought that giving it the Best Picture award was more like an acknowledgement for the whole trilogy rather than that specific movie, and it felt like they made the decision to do that when Fellowship of the Ring came out.

I get that the Oscars need to change stuff around, but "most popular movie". Seriously? Can't see it working TBH. What metric would you use? Box office return? IMDb user rating? I'd much rather have a category for "Best Ensemble Cast" and celebrate the best film where there may be no single standout performance, but where there is great interplay between multiple characters, for example "Spotlight" or "The Post" etc. The whole being greater than the sum of its parts/performances.

I might have wandered off the subject in the following post.
I use Dragon professional by Nuance as my dictation program. The problem I have is that it doesn’t seem to recognize much of my accent. Dragon Professional has difficulty recognizing many of the technical the words I wish to use. Particularly if I’m using an out of date word or phrase that more closely fits the meaning that I want to convey. What is the Elizabethan meaning of the phrase “odds botkin?” I just requested the sentence using “odds Botkin” you will notice that Botkin is capitalized because Dragon recognizes the character name Odds Botkin but doesn’t remember or know what the original phrase was or what it meant. It took me a while to figure out that Shakespeare in his early plays would use the term “God’s body” and received many complaints so he changed it to “odds botkin” as a sort of minced up way of using God’s name in a curse. A Botkin is a tool used for making holes in leather I would’ve used the term “awl” which is another term that Dragon doesn’t recognize along with “haul” which Dragon tends to print as “all.” It would it does a thorough search of my writings and comes up with a long list of words doesn’t recognize that I’ve used I’m too lazy to go through each one so Dragon will have the proper pronunciation for if or when I ever use them again.

I was waiting for Will's superiority over Norm to show it's ugly head again. Listen to past podcasts and notice how many times Will's superiority complex comes up and he has to put down Norm for his age.
Idk if he wants to feel more "adult" or he's trying to group himself with Adam because he's famous and awesome but it's pathetic.
Will often agrees with Adam just so he's in yhe same camp as Adam. Typical insecure bully behavior.

    • @Sammowah
      @Sammowah 6 лет назад +1

You and I are likely seeing the dynamic between these three close friends differently; and as such, I will respectfully disagree with your assessment. However! Will absolutely has a superiority complex, but I think it is directed mostly at inanimate objects and really difficult levels he's beaten in video games...and probably ants.

    1) I have trepidation about Patrick Stewart returning to Star Trek. I fear they are going to do to Star Trek what Disney did to Star Wars.
    2) For the Oscars I would like to see a comedian that is politically incorrect. But who am I kidding, I haven't watched the Oscars in ten years. Primarily because it has become so divisively politically.
    3) Titanic, IMO, is a chick flick at best, but to me a crap show. Spoiler alert, the ship sinks and he dies.
    EDIT:
    4) Hollywood has lost relevance with me. They put out movies that constantly insult what I am. I am one who can take self deprecating humor better than most, but when every movie you go to see mocks your existence, values, ambitions, etc. you stop going to the movies. I value capitalism because it is the engine of wealth creation, but Marxist Hollywood hates capitalists. I am a christian, but Hollywood accuses us for being homophobic war mongers. My ethnicity is Celtic and German, Hollywood accuses me of have "white privilege" and being a racist. I am a cisgender Heterosexual male, But Hollywood accuses me of being misogynistic rapist. Hollywood has lost relevance with me.

Thor Ragnarok, is so bad..... the only good thing in all the movie was Hela..... the source materials Thor vs Hulk and Planet Hulk are not funny at all.. seriously.. but the average Joe doesn't care for that and the studio want to make movies that are more family friendly fun flicks, exception is Captain America Winter soldier which was more serious in tone...
