I wish I had something clever or profound to say about your journey, but all I can think is wow, what a walk. Thanks for sharing it with us. Good luck!

Thanks. Got that blister all taken care of while waiting around Baker. Nothing happens by chance according to the Lord. 🙂

That is a nice area thirty years ago There were a lot of artifacts around the mine but people have stolen everything even the headstones that were mostly children that died of the Spanish flu and there are topaz mines in the area.

It seems people these days will take anything as a souvenir. ☹️

@@iLikeMike The ghost town of Bodie California is supposedly cursed, and anyone who takes something even as small as a rock will have bad luck. Quite a few former visitors have mailed back so-called souvenirs, hoping to break their streak of bad luck.

@George_Lewis Interesting. I think somebody also told me that about Bodie while I was in Baker.

torture of sorts, all the challenges that come with such a undertaking keeping you always in state of being without, water, shade day after day fighting to keep moving on and searching for reasons to continue and not giving up to become a lump in front of a comp screen watching others like you know who

Did I hear you correctly? You were delayed in Baker for 12 days awaiting your package? It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to stay there very long, especially when I had to be somewhere else. I did camp and hike in the GBNP for six days in 2005. It was one of my most memorable outings.
    Anyway, Godspeed on your journey.

Yep, 11 days in Baker. Let's say I got to know everyone really well. 🙂

That package! 🙀 You send yourself a package to pick up while you're on the road, and instead of the package being where you plan to stop, you end up having to run around the country chasing it! I sincerely hope the next delivery goes more smoothly in Oklahoma. Were you at least able to get a ride or rent a car to drive back to pick up that package from Baker and then return to pick up where you left off on your trek? I can't imagine that you hiked all the way back there. Maybe it's a foolish question.
Anyway, praying for your safe travels. Please ask St. Francis of Assisi and St. Martin de Porres for their intercession for a few special intentions for me. Yes, these intentions all involve animals. Thank you! 🙏🏻✝️

So, the package was supposed to be delivered to Garrison, UT. I hung around Baker, NV, about seven miles away from there. When I walked to Garrison from Baker and the box wasn't there, I got a ride back to Baker. When the box finally arrived in Garrison, I ended up getting a ride back there from Baker.
Saint Francis and Martin are on my daily prayer request list. I'll ask them to help you out.

Thank you for taking us along on your journey. Please be very careful hiking in the heat. There have already been quite a few heat related deaths this month. I will be praying for your Safe passage into cooler areas with more water. At least I have air conditioning in my minivan and if the late afternoon temperatures don't drop below 80*F, I will stop at a Motel in some small town in Kansas or Nebraska overnight. Well one nice thing about the heat wave, I bet the lawn is dormant, possibly dead, and I will not need to mow it 😂. Blessings and Safe travels. ❤🙏🥾😊

I just found a website with the American Discovery Trail route. Very interesting. I was wondering why you chose a less direct route to Eureka from Middlegate... not passing through Austin, etc. After reviewing the map I now know why. Your detour to Ely was certainly a wise choice, as Preston and nearby Lund have even less to offer to a hiker than Baker.
    Anyway, have a safe journey.

Thanks for the video, Mike. If you're concerned about your schedule at this point, it might be useless stress. With all the technology available, you'd think they'd be able to get a simple package to its destination. That's the kind of event that makes me skeptical of "technological progress."
Isn't great to be walking the way you are and be able to eat all that good food. I looked online for the diner you went to in Milford. Penny's Diner? Great looking menu. I know I'd probably eat enough that I couldn't move.

Penny's Diner in Milford - that's the one. And as to what I call the deadline, I'm not letting it stress me. If I get there by then, fine. If not, c'est la vie. 🙂

How do you hike in the heat ??????

    • @iLikeMike
      @iLikeMike  3 месяца назад

Hiking in the heat I have to be careful. Depending on what the temperature will be, sometimes I have to get going by dawn and finish by noon or before. If you watch any of the videos from my first walk across America, I even had to hike at night a few times in Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas to beat the heat.
