Derek this is one of my favorite episodes you guys have ever put out . As far as that location you just went to this is the best in the Sierra Vista area .
Beautiful views! I need to go to those sites! My best Arizona hummingbird sighting was a Costa's hummingbird who landed on a low branch close to my camp at Lake Pleasant -- an unforgettable experience!
Fabulous video, guys.Thanks. We're british birders who were lucky enough to visit Ash Canyon when Mary Jo was there. Wonderful lady and awesome, awesome birds. Especially the Lucifers hummingbird. Been back several times since and Sheri Williamson/SABO are doing a great job preserving this special place. Superb channel, guys.
@@thecornells7430 thank you! I’m glad you’ve gotten to visit, especially when Mary Jo was there. We met the current folks who are helping run it and they were great as well.
Amazing location! Went to Ash Canyon for the first time hust a couple days ago. Got my lifers Rivoli's and Lucifer's hummingbirds and saw a bobcat catch a squirrel. This should be bucket list destination for every birder.
There is a place like this in Jamaica called Rockland Bird Sanctuary where the endemic Jamaican Streamertail (Jamaica's national bird) and the Jamaican mango are so tame they drink nectar from your hands. I've been there and it's magical. There is a story behind it as well, about a woman who was so close to the hummingbirds she fed them by hand, and her family has kept up the tradition. My favorite hummingbird I've seen is the red-billed Jamaican streamertail, but the Antillean Crested Hummingbird is a close second. I actually really love hummingbirds so there are a bunch in South and Central America I want to see, like the sword billed hummingbird.
That's cool! I was able to see the Streamertail on a trip to Jamaica before I was really into birding. I still remember seeing it and getting pictures though.
Great video..I got my first Lucifer at Ash Canyon, and first White-eared at Beatys. I still need the Plain Capped Star throat to complete my set of Arizona hummers. Planning another trip back out this year in July. The Violet-crowned is probably my favorite.
Violet-crowned is beautiful. I was really happy with the short tripod clip I got and included in this video. They rarely seemed to stop moving at Miller
I'm glad that you gave the definition of the name 'Lucifer'. Even so, my wife would be like, "Yuck! Why does such a beautiful bird have a name like that?!" Speaking of hummingbirds, (do I dare ask), why are they called Hummingbirds? (Snicker, ha ha)
Lucky you seeing the Calliope! I was there August 6-9 and didn't see one. It's on the tops of my list to see for the first time. Really hope it's not going to be my nemesis bird
I've been to SEAZ 4 X's now... 1300 mile drive for me. LOVE that whole area 🙂 Until now, I've been chasing lots of other great birds, including the more common Hummers. But now I've pretty much gotten good shots of all the more common stuff. Never been to Ashe Canyon or Beatty's Guest Ranch. I know the rarities go there. My only concern is being able to catch them on a natural perch.... Then good light is always a concern, but that's just bird photography regardless of where, or for what species 🙂 Your video is getting me stoked to go there again 🙂👍
One of my 'Grail Birds' is the Cuban Bee Hummingbird (smallest bird in the world)!! but it's not easy to get to Cuba;) I would love to see you do a video on that:D
Dude, for the sake of your international audience, please SLOW DOWN with your commentary. I loved all your comments but missed a few. Great presentation, BTW, and please let's have some more.
That's a Gila Woodpecker, not a Golden-fronted
Yeah you’re right! Gila Woodpecker at 1:11 not Golden-fronted. Thought I was in South Texas for a second 😂
They're all so beautiful ♡
They're incredible!
You do an awesome job of editing! Mad skills! Great video.
Thank you so much!

I got my first Lucifer there with Mary Jo too.
That must have been cool! I'm glad they were able to continue her legacy there.
I was lucky enough to honeymoon in SE AZ in 2014, and I sat with Mary Jo and her parrots as I got so many lifers. She was truly a national treasure.

Rufous Hummingbirds they have so much attitude.

Thank you !!! So great to see all the types of hummers we have here in Arizona. I learned a few new ones, and I love the "white-eared" hummingbird !!!
Yeah! That one was really cool!

Good morning to you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. It’s interesting to see hummingbirds drinking nectar from these feeders with their tongues sticking out 😁😄
Yeah it is! They're fascinating creatures.
